Chapter 299: Chapter 288: The Untouchable Taboo! (3rd Update! Vote for Monthly Tickets!!) Chapter 299: Chapter 288: The Untouchable Taboo! (3rd Update! Vote for Monthly Tickets!!) Jiang Qiao constructed a circular table large enough to accommodate eight people to conduct a simple training session for this group of newly appointed NPCs.
The NPC from the celestial faction sent to recruit celestial spirits was called pirate Drake, another name that could be translated into an earthly pirate name.
He was now casually leaning back in his chair, legs propped up on the table, absentmindedly peeling an orange with a dagger.
Another from the annihilation faction, the mechanical being, had a very simple name, Mother.
“That’s what my children call me.” Its voice had completely transformed into a gentle female tone. Pirate Drake listened with a sneer but made no other gesture.
Indeed, its voice matched that of a mother, assuming one could ignore its sharp hands capable of slicing through anything.
“As the agent of the Devouring God, cooperation with these two dangerous individuals will bring no good end to the celestial spirits–bandits, assassins… they will inflict psychological trauma upon the celestial spirits.”
War God Wuerde sat at the table as well, having shifted from addressing Jiang Qiao as the Devouring God to agent.
He didn’t want the two foreign invaders to know Jiang Qiao’s real identity; moreover, he knew that celestial spirits were immortal, unless their energy was siphoned off with special techniques.
Therefore, War God Wuerde was clear that, compared to physical injuries, what concerned Jiang Qiao more was the psychological trauma of the players.
“Do you think there are few celestial spirits who could be called bandits and assassins, Mr. Urd?” Jiang Qiao retorted, instantly silencing the War God.
There were a lot of bandits among the celestial spirits, one might even say every celestial spirit was a bandit!
If possible, War God Wuerde really didn’t wish to deal with the descendants of the Devouring God in his lifetime, but the conquest of Biland Island required the assistance of celestial spirits.
“This is a fair trial, Mr. Urd. If you look down upon this pirate and assassin… then prove to the celestial spirits that you are stronger than them!” Jiang Qiao declared.
“Your predecessor, the Devouring God, was an even bigger bastard than me, but I’m starting to like you as the agent,” Drake suddenly paused his orange peeling, took his feet down from the table, and looked at Jiang Qiao.
Ah… Sorry, the previous Devouring God is right beside me, staring at you. Hai Lan was by Jiang Qiao’s side, swinging her tiny fists, clearly intending to sock that pirate a good one if given the chance.
“Next are the rules for you, as recruiters of celestial spirits. All rules I state must be followed; breach any of them, and I will revoke your right to recruit celestial spirits,” Jiang Qiao said in an extremely serious tone to the three present.
“As long as it’s not an excessive price, we can accept it,” Drake stated.
“Personally, I don’t think it’s too excessive. There are only two rules, for every task there must be payment,” Jiang Qiao tossed a parchment scroll crafted as a sample game task to the three present.
“Whatever you commission the celestial spirits to do, you must provide a corresponding payment. If your subordinates back out, the celestial spirits might tolerate it the first time, but if it happens a second time, it would be beyond my control,” he added.
“Every person who works hard deserves a reward, a creed we’ve always abided by,” Drake affirmed that there was no issue with this rule.
Both War God Wuerde and Mother nodded, indicating their acceptance of the terms, though Wuerde wore a grave expression, wanting to ask something but holding back.
Finally, Jiang Qiao proposed the second rule.
“The second rule, and the most important one, must never be violated. If breached, not even I can save you!”
Jiang Qiao’s voice once again became extremely serious and intimidating. Then he took out three more parchment papers and tossed them to the three individuals.
Upon seeing the content on the parchment, Queen Mei blushed and lowered her head, but Drake could not help laughing after reading it.
“Agent, this is a necessary process for biological reproduction and something that must be learned. Why can’t those celestial spirits see it?”
Mother was the first to voice her doubts, what Jiang Qiao had given them on the parchment was all… harmonious images and literature.
“The law, a supreme law!” Jiang Qiao’s tone become even more terrifying, especially when his gaze landed on Drake, who was still chuckling at something, and his voice even took on a threatening inflection.
“Nobody should try to violate this law, not even the spirits themselves. Otherwise, the spirits will be stripped of their existence by this law, everything… and you will all be destroyed.”
“What law? I’m very curious, Agent. I’ve never heard of a rule on the star chart that… doesn’t allow people to see mating scenes and upper parts of the human body.” Derek performed admirably, subtly replacing the vulgar language he intended to use with more implicit wording.
Derek swore he’d never been this ‘civilized’ in his life.
“That is a law you have never touched and never will, yet it is omnipresent,” Jiang Qiao said.
Bullshit! Of course, you don’t know about the prohibition issued by the Harmony God himself!
The game “Spirit” has already been rated on the Celestial Palace, and it received a 15+ rating… meaning it’s a game suitable for youths aged fifteen and above.
There’s a small portion of gore and that stuff in “Spirit,” but it’s not too extreme. When Jiang Qiao reviewed the Biland Island map, he overtly warned the NPCs never to engage in such acts.
Otherwise, there would be only one outcome… eradication!
“This is somewhat difficult. In both cities on Heida Island, such shops are restricted by the law, and they make up almost a part of our lives.” Drake frowned upon hearing Jiang Qiao’s threats. The first problem he encountered in recruiting spirits was… what kind of shop?
The pirate city was naturally full of everything, and there were hardly any restrictions.
“Close down! Reform! Reform everything!” Jiang Qiao said, banging the round table wildly with his hand.
This was the part Jiang Qiao found the most troublesome. Usually, when NPCs uttered indecent curse words, the system would automatically replace them with ‘beep~’ or ‘Spirit Profanity’, and in the case of unexpected nudity, mosaics would be applied instantly.
But in the pirate city, where that kind of shop filled the streets, Jiang Qiao was really at a loss, so he had to get these pirates to reform; otherwise, he might… set an invisible wall around these pirates’ cities.
“Somewhat difficult.” Drake was a bit stunned. He had thought Jiang Qiao would demand a hefty compensation upfront, but instead… he was asking them to close down that kind of shop?
“Rest assured on that account. The order within the sanctuaries established by the gods is well maintained, and these filthy things do not exist,” War God Urd interjected at this point.
“It’s not just about that kind of shop. Normal lovers doing that is also not allowed, and hiding anything dirty that can’t be seen in public under your protection is also forbidden!” Jiang Qiao declared.
“Agent, doesn’t this somewhat violate human nature?” Mother spoke up at this moment.
Had anyone else spoken those words, it might not have meant much, but coming from her, a robot responsible for the eradication of species, suggesting that the prohibition went against human nature, Jiang Qiao found extremely ironic.
But… there’s no helping it.
“The rules of the law are not to be violated by anyone. If you wish to do so, then there can be no talk of cooperation,” the threatening undertones still laced Jiang Qiao’s voice.
“Strange rule indeed. I’ll go back and talk to the little guys from the pirate crews. Just these two rules, correct? Agent?” Drake, who’d lost count of the number of times he had looted, had never feared any trouble, but today Jiang Qiao truly presented him with an enormous challenge.
Because this was a fundamental pursuit for all beings, but… for the sake of power and the victory of the Heida Island campaign, Derek felt one could make a small sacrifice of this basic aspiration.
“Just these two rules. The rest is the course on how to attract spirits to join your camp. You can choose to listen or not, what is your answer?”
Jiang Qiao glanced over at the three individuals who had all taken their places quietly.
“Very well. The first step is designing your flag and badge, something that can represent the impression of your camp. This is very important!” Jiang Qiao officially began training the new NPCs.
