Chapter 290: Chapter 281: The Shield and the Spear (Fourth Update! Vote for monthly pass!) Chapter 290: Chapter 281: The Shield and the Spear (Fourth Update! Vote for monthly pass!) Deris returned to the original space.

Rage filled his heart, and it took Deris a long time to forcibly calm himself down.

This time he had lost a subordinate, one who never returned after being surrounded by holy spirits.

Deris was very pained by the disappearance of his subordinate, but what truly angered him was the feeling of being made a fool of.

“General, shall we continue to recruit those holy spirits?” a soldier from the Obliteration Legion asked with lingering fear.

“Why not just lead the army and level the world where the holy spirits reside?”

“You do not understand how terrifying and rare the power of the Devouring God is. The holy spirits are indeed weak now, but they are not something our single legion can eliminate. Our main battlefield is on Black Tide Island! Are you suggesting we abandon the territory we conquered on Black Tide Island at great cost to eradicate these holy spirits? The gain is too low!” Deris said.

His current goal was still to recruit holy spirits, even if it was just one.

The main consciousness of the Devouring God had awakened, which was bad news for him. However, as long as he concealed his identity, secretly making contact with one or two holy spirits should… present no problems.

While Deris pondered these thoughts, he suddenly sensed something.

“The breath of the Abyss Seed.” Deris waved his hand sharply, and part of the scene from that world displayed before him.

The massive frame of the Apocalypse Dragon wreaked havoc within the world, with everything around it corrupted… The sky too was covered in a deep purple hue.

“General, shall we first retrieve the Abyss Seed?” asked the soldiers of the Obliteration Legion.

“Leave this task to me. You wait here.”

Seeing the Apocalypse Dragon, the rage within Deris slightly subsided. He had not expected to encounter in this world a crystalline creature bearing the Abyss Mark.

A crystalline creature is a byproduct of chaos. Magic Thieves are a group of crystalline creatures, while the Abyss is another faction.

The Abyss faction itself lacks self-awareness. Rather than calling them creatures, it would be more fitting to call them ‘tools’.

By possessing an Abyss Seed, one gains a small part of the faction’s powerful force.

The Magic Thieves on Black Tide Island controlled many Abyss Seeds, which was why Deris found them troublesome… He at least needed to plunder one Abyss Seed now.

The Apocalypse Dragon below was a prime target!

Deris donned a new set of armor and took up his weapon… After instructing his subordinates not to perform any superfluous actions, he once again shattered the barriers of space and leaped into the inner world.

This time Deris’s goal in coming to the inner world was not the holy spirits, but to capture the Apocalypse Dragon! To be precise, to capture the Abyss Seed within the Apocalypse Dragon.

Deris, clad in Obliteration heavy armor, landed in the First Hospital district of the inner world.

He thought this would not be a difficult task since the holy spirits were already besieging the Apocalypse Dragon. All he had to do was snatch the Abyss Seed from inside the Apocalypse Dragon just as the holy spirits were about to kill it.

Deris moved closer to the district where the Apocalypse Dragon was located, but halfway there, a sense of danger suddenly surged throughout his body.

A Longsword suddenly flew towards him from around the corner of a street.

Deris raised the armguard on his hand and instantly deflected the sword.

“Deris… you’ve grown up, it’s been years since I last saw you.”

An aged voice rang out from the end of the street, and when Deris looked up, he saw that it was his mentor Thorne.

He sat atop a small hill made from the heaped bodies of countless Abyss followers, which, to be honest, were nothing more than some humanoid chunks of flesh.

“Master, this is perfect! Help me extract the Abyss Seed from inside that dragon’s body.” Deris felt the murderous intent emanating from Thorne, but he still requested Thorne’s cooperation.

“That won’t do, my friend has been infected by the Abyss aura, and taking away the seed won’t stop the infection from spreading. Only by having those Holy Spirits purify it will the Abyss infection disappear,” Thorne said helplessly, shaking his head.

“You actually have friends?” Deris asked, puzzled.

“I do have quite a few friends here.”

“Then…I apologize in advance.”

Deris drew his sword and in a blink, he had closed the distance to Thorne. He swung his sword down hard, and the iron rod in Thorne’s hand was no match for Deris’s ferocious magic and heavy chopping strike.

The huge wind pressure created by the swinging of the blade cleaved the pile of corpses beneath Thorne in two, and the ground bore deep gouges where the Sword Qi had slashed across it.

Thorne dodged the strike, but the iron rod he wielded as a weapon was now reduced to scrap metal.

Deris spread his fingers wide and clenched them suddenly; a massive barrier struck from all sides, leaving Thorne with no place to hide his exquisite swordsmanship and evasive maneuvers.

He was directly trapped in the cage formed by Deris’s magic.

“Although my swordsmanship is not as good as yours, Master, I still know the way to deal with you.” Knowing he couldn’t harm Thorne, Deris created a cage to trap him instead.

“That’s why I hate you mages.”

Thorne eyed the barrier trapping him, knowing he couldn’t break through Deris’s barrier with just his bare hands.

But suddenly, two beams of light, one golden and one red, shot towards Deris’s constructed cage, penetrating it and stabbing directly into the ground.

They were two swords… One was a shortsword without a blade, no… its blade existed, it was just invisible, while the other was a katana, wrapped in blood-red flames.

At the sight of those two swords planted in front of Thorne, Deris, in a fit of panic, released a destructive spell, attempting to destroy the swords.

But the sharpness of the sword blades easily cut through the magic released by Deris, who in turn watched his spellcasting hand burst into a torrent of blood.

“Do you know about a terrible legend that circulated in the constellations hundreds of years ago?”

Thorne picked up the shortsword known as the Shadowless Sword, and the katana known as the Underworld Flame Blade.

He assumed a stance that made Deris frown, as Deris drew another Longsword from his waist, his face turning serious as he adopted the same stance as Thorne.

“When the Eternal joins forces with the Devouring God, no one in the entire constellation can stand against them!”

“But the Devouring God was defeated once! You lost too!” At the moment Deris finished speaking, the ground beneath his feet already started to splinter. Thorne, wielding the two epic weapons, clashed with Deris’ Longsword, and in an instant, the glass of the surrounding buildings was shattered by the impact of their battle.

The strongest shield combined with the strongest spear!

Queen Mei, standing on top of a tall building, watched Thorne and Deris’s battle from a distance. She knew her concern now should not be those two fellows, but the Apocalypse Dragon at the center.

“All out, then?”

Queen Mei drew a dagger across her wrist, and a gush of blood surged out, forming two massive Longswords from her blood.

The sky was already enveloped in dark clouds. As a flash of lightning illuminated Queen Mei’s calico cat hood the next second, the silhouettes of the five Knights all appeared behind her.
