Rosie's Games -
Chapter 559 559: Confrontation 4
However, his reaction only incited Belisarius's anger. He swung his sword repeatedly and targeted Lucas's vulnerable points, but Lucas effortlessly dodged every strike, almost as if he danced around the attacks.
This clearly indicated Lucas's superior strength to Belisarius. But would this stop him from launching further attacks on Lucas?
No. The concise answer remained no.
Belisarius unleashed a barrage of attacks that quickly demolished the office and a portion of the mansion. Still, Lucas did not even flinch; he simply gazed at Belisarius, as if waiting for him to deplete his energy.
Without uttering a word, Lucas evaded all of Belisarius's strikes until he sensed his anger slowly subsiding.
Meanwhile, Rosalind and the demon who was occupying Federico's body appeared locked in a standoff.
The demon residing within Federico was nearly certain he could end Rosalind with a final blow. However, he was proven wrong when Rosalind did not fall, instead, he heard a hissing sound.
He frowned and retracted his claws, only to realize that they had started to melt. He jumped back, and upon examining Rosalind, he found no wounds on her chest.
She was still there, standing like a statue, her eyes closed, her face pale.
It was as if...
The demon gritted his teeth, convinced that Rosalind's soul had not returned. Nonetheless, he was not about to allow her to draw power from the barrier. With this in mind, he immediately resumed his attacks.
However, an invisible shield materialized in front of Rosalind, protecting her from all assaults. Undeterred, the demon relentlessly sent various forms of attack her way, using fire, lightning, and wind blades.
He employed both his claws and a sword, yet none of these managed to penetrate the shield.
"Good," Federico mumbled, his voice low. "Very good. You force me to resort to this. Few humans have the ability to compel me to do so." He raised his hand into the air, summoning a massive, black, ominous orb. Chanting in an unknown language, he focused his gaze on Rosalind.
Did this woman think her inexperience and meager abilities could stop him? So what if she could absorb the abilities in the barrier?
At the end of the day, she was still human! She was born weak!
He sneered and hurled the black orb toward Rosalind, only to discover she had vanished from her earlier position.
His eyes widened, and he heard a 'THWACK' from behind him.
Slowly, he lowered his head and saw large claws penetrating his chest, tightly gripping his still-beating heart. The demon felt a cold chill as he realized what had just happened. Then his gaze turned dark. This should not have occurred.
How could a mere physical attack have this effect on him? How?
However, the demon had no time to answer his own question as he started losing consciousness.
Seeing the demon fall, Rosalind stared at the heart in her hand before letting it go. She staggered back but was luckily supported by black tendrils that appeared behind her.
She immediately closed her eyes, her face turning pale. She had never anticipated that the barrier would respond to her at this critical moment, but she was grateful nonetheless.
After what felt like an eternity, she opened her eyes and composed herself. She approached Federico's body, which had transformed into that of an old man. As she stared at the corpse before her, Rosalind frowned.
The demon was already dead, its soul was no longer in this continent. However, for an unknown reason, she sensed that something was still amiss with the barrier. Something was wrong.
She quickly turned around and scanned the area, unable to see anything. But she had an unmistakable feeling...
*CLAP*
*CLAP*
*CLAP*
"Dorothy?" Rosalind called out upon seeing a woman approaching. The woman was dressed in white, wearing a familiar smile. Lucas had previously informed Rosalind that Dorothy was dead, as the goddess had ended her life upon discovering her demon nature.
So...
"Who would have thought that a human could defeat an archduke?" Dorothy smiled at her.
"Why— Why are you—"
"Alive?" Dorothy arched an eyebrow. "You underestimated me, sister."
"You are not Dorothy," Rosalind gasped as she sensed a familiar aura around Dorothy. In the past, the woman had been tainted by the demon's presence. Now, the dark aura had vanished, leaving a pure and clean Dorothy. "You are the goddess!" Rosalind's eyes widened with realization. Lucas had claimed he got rid of the goddess, so why was she still here? Did it have something to do with the barrier?
"She did not destroy me," Rosalind said.
The reality was cruel; she understood that the entity within Dorothy was just a fragment of the goddess. If she was right, the goddess had seized the chaos to implant a fragment of her soul into Dorothy and then faked her death in front of everyone.
The goddess excelled in preserving her soul, a concept she had studied extensively in the past. She spent years delving into the intricacies of souls because she aimed to strengthen her soul, believing it had greater potential than the physical body.
By fortifying her soul, she aspired to traverse the universe and access other dimensions, gaining even more power. Rosalind had acquired this knowledge by glimpsing the goddess's thoughts when she showed her visions of the past.
Dorothy offered no response, as she stood a few feet away from Rosalind with a blank expression on her face.
"I watched you fight that demon, hoping he would kill you," Dorothy said coldly. She looked around the barrier, confidence oozing on her body. "Your death would have been enough to prove your uselessness."
Dorothy continued, "I guess I underestimated my own abilities. How could I blame you when I... I was the one who chose you?"
Rosalind blinked, unsure of what Dorothy meant.
"Now, I cannot help but regret turning back time to save you," Dorothy said. "I should have remained dead and waited for another vessel." She sneered. "It would have been easier to find someone... weaker."
