Chapter 552 552: The Betrayal 1
"Weak…." The goddess frowned. What was he talking about? Then she lowered her head and stared at her hand. "What have you done?" she asked, a trace of panic appeared in her eyes as she looked around the study. "This place…."
"A place that I created…" Lucas uttered.
"You— " The goddess was not able to finish her words as she held her throat, struggling to breathe.
A strong pressure suddenly pressed upon her. It was as if a heavy boulder landed on top of her, making her struggle to get some air. "You are going to kill this body!"
"Let her go…." Lucas said coldly.
"You— Do you not want to be with me?" she asked. "Do— cough— cough— What do you— cough— want!?"
As if on cue, the suffocating pressure that descended upon her vanished.
"Leave her body. I am giving you a chance to stay in the barrier."
"I cannot do that. She would die if— " she stared at him, her eyes wide. This did not last too long as she realized something else... something unexpected.
She could feel emotions!
"The black liquid… you— you made her body strong enough to survive without me. Did you — She told you about turning back time," she uttered, struggling to process what just happened.
"You must have thought I am foolish. After all, I let you do what you wanted in the past." Lucas said.
"This body…"
"Is mine. You have no right to encroach upon her body and treat it as your own," he said.
"You have prepared for this…" the goddess said in realization. From the memories that she saw, it seems that Lucas started asking her to absorb the liquid even before she told him about the fact that she already died and was somehow reincarnated. From the memories, the goddess could clearly see Lucas's expression of relief.
She shuddered, fear flashed in her eyes.
"You intend to kill me…" she said.
"Were you truly expecting me to let you kill me?" he chuckled. "What foolishness..."
"You- "
"The space— This place existed in between the barriers. A place located in a different dimension. This means that… the curse that you placed upon me would not work here." Lucas then revealed his arm, showing her that it had started to rot, but now, it was… healing.
This only means one thing.
This man just tricked her!
"You— " the goddess could not understand the anger that she felt. The curse that she left would only work in the world where the curse was made.
Even if that world had been separated by a barrier.
It would not work in another world or dimension as the laws in this world are different. Hatred flashed in the goddess's eyes. "You planned all this… did you not?" Now that she thought about it, she could not help but mock herself. When she died and her soul was in a limbo, she lost the ability to analyze anything. Because of the past so she never thought that he would...
"You — You let her take the black liquid to get rid of me. You knew there was a possibility that I would come back, so you— so you prepared this place for me. This place…" A place that does not recognize the curse.
A place that he owned!
"You evil thing!"
"I was born evil… or did you forget that I am a demon?" Lucas snorted, mockery laced his eyes. "Did you perhaps think that I would understand your need to save the human when I am not one of them? Or did you perhaps think that I would lay here waiting for you to come back so you could end my miserable life?" He chuckled, his voice deep and alarmingly dark. It immediately sent shivers down her spine.
This man just… just patiently waited for her to appear so he could take care of her on this dimension. This man guarded her tomb, watching, patiently waiting for her soul to find the perfect body, the perfect vessel.
He never involved himself in the matters that concern the humans as he waited and waited and waited like a madman.
Then… the moment she appeared, he simply took her to this place to destroy her. This man… betrayed her for the second time. "Why…." she uttered. This time, her voice was low, it was almost like a whisper.
She had the power to fight him… but not in a world that he created. "I knew you always loved me…" the Goddess said. "I knew you cared." However, her priority lies elsewhere. It was with the humans. Still, the humans betrayed her.
In her anger, she wanted to use the humans to have access to more power. What was wrong with sacrificing the ones who betrayed her? She did not think it was wrong. She did not think it was unjust!
In the past, he killed her simply because of that. At that time, she never understood why he would betray her. She thought he hated the humans too. She thought… he would be the one who would stand by her side, supporting her. However, he failed her.
Who would have thought that this man would never change?
Even now, he would choose to destroy her.
"Why?" she balled her hands into two tight fists. She tried to access her powers, but as expected, she could not even sense it.
In this world, she was merely human— a weak human.
"Why did you betray me then? Why did you betray me now!?" she hissed unable to contain her anger.
"You know what was most hurtful?" he asked her, ignoring her previous question. "It was not knowing."
"What?"
Lucas shook his head, chuckling. "Rosalind is not that weak. She will come back."
"I already own this body."
"Not for long."
"Do you care about her more than you care about me?" the goddess asked. She could not understand why he would want her— the woman that he loved in the past— to leave this body. Logic would suggest that he was preparing this body for her, but she knew, deep down she knew that this was not the case.
Lucas no longer sees her as the woman that he loved in the past.
She gritted her teeth. Where did she go wrong? She and him… were so compatible. They fought next to each other, became each other's friends, they had each other's back!
All she wanted was to kill the demon emperor, yet he… he betrayed her.
Until now, the past was still clear in her memories. Just when the humans betrayed her, he stabbed her in the heart. He used his sword— a sword made by the demon Emperor himself— to stab her, hurting her already damaged soul.
"Why?" she asked, her voice soft as the memories of what happened in the past filled her head. "Why did you betray me?"
Lucas stood there like a cold statue, unmoved by the torrent of emotions that swept over her. She had braced herself for his anger, for any sign of feeling, but his expression remained empty, devoid of any emotion.
The goddess's pupils quivered as a strange sensation coursed through her. She had grown accustomed to the numbness of her heart when he traded her emotions for power. But now, as feelings rushed back into her like a relentless tide, she shuddered with an unfamiliar vulnerability.
For the first time in what felt like an eternity, tears welled up in her eyes, and she could not stop them from falling. The goddess wept, a sight she had never thought she would witness in her immortal existence.
Her gaze locked onto Lucas, who continued to stare at her with cold detachment.
Slowly, the return of her humanity began to break through the icy veneer she had built. She had been resolute in her pursuit of power, but now she was confronted with the raw pain of her actions and the emotions she had long forgotten.
"Stop this..." she whispered. Her hand clutched her chest as if trying to contain the storm of feelings that threatened to engulf her once more.
Lucas continued to watch, his gaze unwavering.
Right then and there, the goddess understood that everything that he did was on purpose. First, he let her take the liquid, knowing that it would make Rosalind's body stronger against the goddess's soul. Still, she had so many questions, so many things that were bugging her mind.
"Give her body back," Lucas calmly answered as if he was not aware of the sudden changes in her emotions.
"I cannot do that…" the goddess said.
"Isn't it entertaining that you always thought you had already sacrificed your emotions to gain the power that you had?" he asked. "Did you not wonder why... you suddenly wanted to curse me when you could have killed me after what I did?"
The goddess said nothing. She simply stared at him in horror.
In fact, even if she wanted to, she did not know what else to say.
All she wanted- since she was but a young girl- was to end the reign of the demons. She hated them, everything about their existence!
And just when she thought she could finally have the thing that she wanted, she was betrayed by the people that she wanted to protect.
Not only this, Lucas betrayed her.
At the end of the day, the goddess could only see how miserable she was. She could not see any reasons beyond that.
....
A/N: Why do you think Lucas betrayed her? I mean, do you think he no longer loves the goddess? Or did he even love her to begin with? When I created Lucas, I wanted him not to be good or evil. Anyway...
I really wanted to write more but I have been very busy with life. I am moving on. I am moving forward. In fact, WN invited me to go to China, but I have to decline because of my current circumstances. I always wanted to visit China again. I loved Shanghai.
