Rosie's Games -
Chapter 532 532: Rimes Sinclair
Rimes Sinclair had been working up north for a few months now. When he first arrived up there, he never thought he would stick around this long, but he had a goal. He was determined to do whatever it took to achieve that goal.
When he noticed that Rosalind Lux always had a guard with her, Rimes decided to learn all he could about Rosalind, the north, and its people. He needed to fit in, to vanish. And he'd like to believe he succeeded.
All he had to do now was wait. While waiting, he chose to do his best and learn from the Bohan Family, who was known for their skills in assassinations.
"Hey, Rimes... Let's finish up here and then regroup with the others. This battle was tough, and we have more to do. We'll honor the fallen later, but for now, let's wrap things up and be ready for what's next."
Due to the battle, there were many demon bodies and debris around them. Their current job was to clean it all up. After what happened, everyone was still on edge, fearing the portal might reappear.
So, they had extra tasks, like checking their weapons and increasing their training. Everyone was preparing for the danger to escalate.
Rimes, however, paid no mind to the soldier's words. He looked at the walls where the Duchess and the Duke were talking. "What? Is this the first time you've seen the Duchess?" another soldier said, nudging him.
"Of course not," Rimes rolled his eyes. "I just thought it's unusual for her to be without Lady Magda." Magda was a tough woman who'd been guarding Rosalind for the past few months. She was smart and stronger than the soldiers, a fact Rimes had confirmed when she sparred with the soldiers and another warrior named Huig.
Rimes didn't know where these people came from, but he was pretty sure they weren't normal humans, at least not like most folks in Wugari. That's what he figured after witnessing the strength of Wugarians up close, especially the Four Great Pillars.
For instance, the Etonde Family members weren't just strong; they looked like elephants, tall and sturdy. But that wasn't the only scary thing about them. Their skin was so thick that not even an arrow could pierce it. Then there was that woman from the Madilu Family with eagle eyes who could see someone's pores from half a mile away.
And he couldn't forget the Bohan Family members who could blend into darkness, making it easier for them to carry out assassinations. That was why it was a tough task for Rimes or Jeames to complete his mission.
The North turned out to be very different from what he'd initially thought.
"Ah, Lady Magda... You've got a liking for her, huh?" the soldier teased.
"Who wouldn't like such a strong woman?" Rimes replied.
"Who'd fancy such a beast?" the soldier shot back. "Northern women are different, but Lady Magda is in a league of her own. I heard she could easily beat Lord Fabian Etonde in a fair fight. Who'd like a woman who could snap your bones when angry?" the soldier chuckled.
Rimes just snorted in response.
None of the soldiers knew he'd already investigated Magda and knew how strong she really was. That's why Rimes found it tough to get close to Rosalind.
"Come on... let's finish this task. You won't find Lady Magda there. I saw her earlier with another soldier. They're heading to Rakha to assist. The portal caused a lot of damage, and some nobles died.
Chaos has erupted. Moreover..."
Rimes no longer listened to the soldiers' words. He wasn't really interested in Magda. He'd only said that to find a way to get closer to her and gain access to Rosalind. But this plan was proving more challenging than he thought.
Magda seemed to dislike men, or maybe all humans in general. She rarely spoke and seemed to look down on everyone except the Duke and Duchess. But Rimes wasn't planning to give up.
After their assignment, the group joined the other members of their team. Due to recent events, each group consisted of seven men. Each group had different tasks: some helped the wounded, others checked on the citizens, helped the cooks, or washed soldiers' clothes. This had always been the routine at the Bohan household camp.
Since the battle had just ended, everyone was given twelve hours to rest and recover. Like the others, Rimes went to his shared room with three other people to rest. But as he walked in, he sensed something was amiss. He immediately became alert, thinking there might be a hidden demon in his room.
He grabbed his dagger and carefully examined the room, but found nothing.
Was it a hallucination? For a moment, he was certain someone was watching him.
This room wasn't that big – it had two bunk beds, a small table with four chairs, and a cabinet for their clothes. There was no bathroom; they had to use the shared bathroom in the house if they wanted to relieve themselves of take a bath.
Slowly, he approached the cabinet and opened it, but it was empty. He thought it was odd. Was it because he was tired?
He let out a sigh, then sat on his bed, took off his shoes, and lay down. He thought about the portal from earlier. It was his first time facing such creatures, but he was more concerned about the strength of the people on the Duke's side.
Huig, Magda, Denys, and a few others he didn't recognize were incredibly strong.
Slowly, a small seed of jealousy sprouted in his heart.
Why can't he be like them? If he was one of them, he and Dorothy would have...
"Hello Jeames..."
Jeames or Rimes jolted up when he heard someone call his real name. He looked around the room but sadly found no one aside from himself.
"Who- Who is there? Show yourself!" he grabbed his dagger, ready to attack anyone who would show themselves in front of him.
However, he only heard a snort.
"Is there a need for you to know?" the cold voice responded. Then Jeames's gaze turned black.
