Chapter 526 526: Jeames Sencler to Rimes
"I might have a way to do it," Rosalind said. However, that would reveal her abilities to everyone else. She needed to think about it thoroughly. "I will see you again." Rosalind then disappeared and reappeared inside the black market, where she checked her grandfather's injuries.
"There is a possibility that he might not wake up again," Mathies informed her. "I am not certain how he got injured, but... he should have the ability to heal his body. However, it seemed that he was the one who did not want to heal his own body. It was as if he did not want to wake up."
Rosalind nodded.
"About what happened outside..."
"Are you talking about the portal?" Rosalind asked.
"The rest of the continent is in chaos," Mathies said. "We are still waiting for the news on the other branches, but right now, Turith and Laimor are still fighting demons. They were not able to contain the first wave of invasion. No one was able to help them because everyone was dealing with the demons."
Rosalind nodded her gaze on her grandfather. She had a hunch that this old man knew more about those Annals. The old man and Ena Thun were quite close. She refused to believe that the old man did not know anything about Ena Thun's actions.
"Listen...
"What is it?" Rosalind finally turned her gaze towards Mathies. "You have been hesitating to say something since I arrived."
"About the demons... I know you already told me you are not the goddess, but... the appearance of the demons is a sign that the goddess has awakened. I—" Mathies avoided Rosalind's gaze. "Only the goddess could close the portals."
"I am not the Goddess that you spoke of. The one who closed the portal was the Duke." This is the reason why Rosalind wanted everyone to think that it was Lucas who closed the portal. She wanted him to take the credit.
She knew that people like Mathies and Atior would suddenly appear.
"Now, we know very well that is not the truth." Mathies stared at her. "I do not know why you are hiding this, but you cannot hide it from everyone who believes that the Goddess will soon appear. Once again, by the side of the dark lord."
Rosalind pursed her lips, saying nothing. Yes. She already expected this fanaticism. She knew this would get worse if she declared herself as the one who could close the portals.
"I know I sounded insane, but this has been predicted a long time ago. There will be a time when the Goddess will reappear to save the continent once again."
"And here I thought you do not believe in the Goddess."
"I believe in what I can see," Mathies said.
Rosalind nodded. Right. Of course. Mathies is that kind of person.
"It was said that cursed weapons could kill demons," Rosalind said as she changed the topic. This is actually very interesting for her, so she decided to gather more information about the matter.
Isn't it strange that she could absorb cursed weapons just as she could absorb the demonic liquid when she was supposed to be someone who had the goddess's soul inside of her? The goddess was supposed to be a good individual who saved the people, no?
How can someone who is considered good use darkness to save humans?
Rosalind snorted at the thought. Naturally, she had seen the memories. She knew that the Goddess indeed used dark magic to create that barrier. That goddess could not exactly absorb the black liquid, as she was still human.
What of Rosalind? She was still human, right? Why can she absorb those liquids and even the cursed weapons?
"We have yet to confirm that, but we are already working on it. Everyone is on high alert," Mathies said. "Please take care of yourself, Miss Lin. The Aster Empire was lucky that you were there when the portal opened. But this would not be the end of it."
"You seemed too certain," Rosalind smiled.
Mathies only clenched his jaw, his expression grave.
"Ah, I believe Mr. Pratt already has some news about the individual that you have been looking for," Mathies said after a few minutes of silence.
"Oh?" Rosalind smiled. A couple of weeks ago, she asked Mr. Pratt to look for someone. She did not expect it to take this long. She wondered where that man was now.
Not long after, a few people arrived that needed Mathies's assistance, so he had to leave Rosalind alone. So, Rosalind also went to see Mr. Pratt to talk about the information that she needed.
"Jeames… Jeames Sencler. What a hard man to find," Mr. Pratt smiled as he handed her the information that she needed. "Who would have thought that the reason why we were not able to find him is because he was hiding in plain sight?"
"What do you mean?" Rosalind immediately opened the folder and frowned. "He— He is in the north?"
"In Wugari to be more specific. He is hiding as a soldier under a different name."
In fact, Rosalind almost forgot about this man. She had avoided her tragic future, so she somewhat ignored him and thought that he would suffer next to Dorothy Lux. This would be his greatest punishment.
Who would have thought that something else would possess Dorothy and then Jeames would simply vanish into thin air?
Rosalind knew how resilient that man was. How could he simply perish like this? Isn't that too easy? So, she asked Mr. Pratt to look for him.
"Yes. He had been there for months. It is unknown what he was up to. His face had mostly changed but was still recognizable. The only reason we were able to trace him is because of the scar that you told us about. He had one specific on the lower side of his back.
One of our people accidentally saw it while he was changing. Would you believe me if I told you that this man is pretty cruel, even to himself?"
"What do you mean?"
"The people who helped him change his name and appearance were dead. Accidentally. Or so the reports say. A beast attacked them. Then… this Jeames… to hide the tattoo that all knights of Lux estate have on their body, burning his own flesh, damaging the tattoo, making it look like an ugly scar. It's either he did it all by himself or someone helped him do it.
Either way, it seems that he is in the north for something… that might concern the Duke and the Duchess of Wugari."
Rosalind pursed her lips. Her hand tightened on the paper that she was reading. On it was a drawing of Jeames Sencler's current appearance. Right now, everyone knows him as Rimes. He is a brave young soldier on the frontier and is currently working under the Bohan Family.
Now, why would Jeames choose to work with the family that is considered experts in Assassination?
She clenched her jaw.
It seems that she had ignored the man too much and let him think that he could do whatever he could just because Rosalind did not choose to pursue him. She thought he would silently live his life. It seems that this part of her past is still attached to her future?
Rosalind snorted. "Thank you for this information."
"If you need my help..."
"No need. I will take care of everything." Rosalind narrowed her eyes, a sinister smile appearing on her face.
