Chapter 515 515: The Eye

WUGARI KINGDOM

"Sir Denys, we have spotted something strange in the north," one of the knights saluted Denys and proceeded to explain. "We saw what looked like a dark portal in the sky."

Denys did not ask the knight any more questions before he employed a light body technique and went to the walls to see the portal that the knight was referring to. What Denys saw made his expression turn grim.

The ominous portal appeared as a swirling vortex of darkness amidst the vast expanse of the sky. Its edges were jagged and irregular as if tearing at the fabric of reality itself. The blackness seemed to consume the light around it, creating an unsettling contrast against the backdrop of the heavens.

Within the portal, eerie, shifting shadows danced and writhed, their movements unsettling and chaotic. Occasionally, faint, fleeting glimpses of grotesque and twisted shapes appeared and disappeared within the depths of the darkness, impossible to fully comprehend.

The air around the portal seemed charged with an unnatural energy, making the hairs on the back of one's neck stand on end. A cold, otherworldly breeze seemed to emanate from its depths, sending shivers down the spines of those who dared to gaze upon it.

The portal's presence seemed to distort the very atmosphere, warping and distorting the light, casting an unsettling, dim glow around its vicinity. It pulsed with an unsettling rhythm, like a heartbeat, filling the air with an oppressive sense of foreboding and dread.

"Sir Denys," General Lytton greeted him as he stood next to Sir Denys along with the other leaders of the Four Great Family leaders, their expressions equally dark. "I sent some soldiers to check on that portal, but they said something is stopping them from approaching that thing," General Lytton continued. "They cannot get closer than about a hundred meters from the area surrounding that portal."

"I also had a few of my trusted aides send some arrows at that portal, and it seems that there is indeed something protecting it, preventing any attacks from going in," Arriane Madilu uttered. She narrowed her eyes at the portal. "That thing had something in the middle.

I am not certain if Sir Denys and the others can see, but it is not anything good." Due to her extremely keen eyesight, Arriane could see something moving in the middle of the dark portal. She immediately started describing it.

Arriane's sharp-trained eyes spotted something terrifying in the heart of the portal—a massive, evil eye, like a monster's, scanning everything with a dark, scary look. The eye had a swirling pattern that felt like it could suck her in, full of never-ending badness.

As the eye moved in the portal, it sent out a sickening feeling that made everyone shudder. It beat like a scary drum, making the fear in the air even worse.

"By the heavens," Arriane gasped, speaking softly. "It is an eye, a really horrible eye."

"An eye?" Denys frowned. Despite being trained in the space between the barrier, he could not see any eye on that portal. All he could see was a large malevolent darkness. "Sound the bells. The demons are coming."

"Should we not inform His and Her grace about this matter?" Sir Etonde asked. Since they had been informed about the demons, he was not that surprised that this day would suddenly come. Everyone in the North is already prepared for this war.

"His and Her grace are currently not in the Kingdom," Denys looked at Magda, who was standing with Huig and two other people. Then he nodded at them.

Without saying a word, the four people vanished into thin air.

"Prepare everything. The demon will descend within a few hours," Denys said with urgency. He quickly called the Generals for a meeting to plan and organize the necessary preparations for the impending threat.

In the meeting, the atmosphere was tense yet everyone seemed prepared as well. So, it was not exactly surprising that no one showed panic or fear during this time of need.

"A portal has appeared," Denys immediately said when Belisarius appeared inside the Duke's study. Belisarius said nothing at first. He looked out of the window and stared at the black object in the air.

To be honest, he could not completely understand what just happened. He was certain that he had already broken the plate, which meant that the barrier would not break. The sudden explosion made him realize a few things. "Where is he?" he asked.

"His grace is with her grace," Denys answered.

"And they are not in the north," Belisarius said, his expression grim. This was a very critical time yet Lucas and Rosalind are actually not in the north. "I believe that these portals might also be in another area." This portal is weaker than the portals that Belisarius knew in the past.

He understood that this was because of the lack of magical essence and relics in this continent. This also means that the one who created the portal cannot afford to make a larger one that could summon higher-ranking demons. Naturally, this is considered good news. However, it seemed that all good news would come with a bad one.

If his guess was right, those people must have created smaller portals all over the continent. This strategy would divide the attention of those who can fight against the demons. The ones responsible for this could use this opportunity to distract their attention from whatever it was that they truly wanted to do!

This alone was enough to cause doubt in Belisarius's heart.

A plan like this would take tens of years if not hundreds. After all, the resources needed for something like this are considered immense, especially for this place!

"We are going to destroy the portal as soon as the barrier around it breaks," Belisarius uttered. The north is actually not the problem since this place is protected by a lot of experts like Denys and Huig. What he was worried about was the other part of this continent.

"I understand," Denys nodded.
