Chapter 1541: Chapter 735: There Should Be an Explanation_2
So, he had truly made up for his past regrets.
The team members carried these items out of the corridor—both the yacht and the cargo ship were anchored off the island. After loading up, Sean didn’t rush to leave but started a barbecue on the beach with the divers who were already exhausted—
The island was treacherous and deserted. The sandy beach wasn’t big, but when the tide went out, there were indeed plenty of seafood!
It wasn’t until the second day that Sean and his group got on the yacht and continued westward. This time, they went straight to New York Harbor.
At the port, as soon as Sean stepped off the yacht, Joanna embraced him tightly!
Sean hadn’t planned any surprise attacks. Sometimes, surprises can be pleasant, but more often than not, they’re not always welcome.
He had called Joanna when he was close to New York Port, and at the time, she was already pleasantly surprised, babbling about going to the port to meet him.
Naturally, Sean wouldn’t refuse.
As for the other team members and staff, he left it up to Douglas to handle the arrangements. Sean and Joanna went to the villa closest to the port.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Sean received a phone call from Jason, laden with complaint.
"Bosuns, how could you do this to me? Don’t you trust me anymore? I knew you were at the pier yesterday, but for your happiness, I didn’t disturb you, and I’ve been waiting until now... You didn’t even send me a message, I’m really hurt!"
Well, Jason’s dramatic act was somehow surprising to Sean— this guy really had talent!
"Okay, to apologize, I’ll stop by the pier later to check out your finds. Also, let Freya know that I’d like to have lunch at your home today, how about that?"
"That would be great! I think Freya would gladly cast off her workwear to cook this meal in the kitchen!"
"Workwear? What’s Freya doing now?"
"She’s become an excellent truck driver," Jason declared proudly. "She says she wants to earn her living through her own efforts. Oh, and her hobby is betting on containers in our yard. I have to say, she has some talent for it..."
This was indeed beyond Sean’s expectations.
He had thought Freya might find a job like a salesperson, or work in a factory, or even, with Jason’s connections, a desk job in some office.
He hadn’t expected her to become a truck driver. That was an interesting choice!
However, to each their own, so Sean just contemplated this momentarily before setting it aside.
After freshening up and having a quick breakfast with Joanna, he went to Jason’s freight yard.
When Sean decided to leave New York, he divided the properties he hadn’t sold into three parts, for Jason, Joanna, and Kathy respectively.
Kathy managed the most of these properties, mainly villas and farmhouses.
Joanna also got a villa, but she also had shares from her father’s company that Sean had invested in. According to what Joanna told Sean before, the Overseas Shipping Company was doing well and Sean’s investment was almost recuperable.
Of course, Sean didn’t take it back but implicitly considered it as part of what he gave to Joanna.
Jason got the least in appearance, but in reality, he controlled the most profitable and active parts of these properties.
What pleased Sean was that Joanna, Kathy, and Jason didn’t really take his words at face value; they all felt like they were watching over the properties for him.
This kind of integrity was really precious.
Sean went to the freight yard, while Joanna returned to her office.
Since she often saw Jason, Joanna didn’t think of accompanying Sean. She knew Sean would catch up with Jason and her office was currently very busy with piles of work.
Upon arrival, Sean found the freight yard as busy as ever.
"The economic downturn has left many containers abandoned in the yard. Their original owners couldn’t pay the rent, so those containers are up for auction," Jason explained the reasons to Sean.
"Those who come to scavenge are mostly the same people. The idea of Zero Dollar Purchase isn’t really mainstream. Many people still prefer stable sources of supply and sales."
Sean nodded in understanding. The people here couldn’t be unaware of the so-called "Zero Dollar Purchase" being illegal. It’s just unregulated, or perhaps too much to handle. For most common people, stable living is the most important. They might not say "a man who knows the times," but they can certainly act it.
Sean Knight didn’t take part in the auction, even though his "Sky Eye" had scanned and discovered that there were indeed some good items in those containers. However, with broader horizons and a different identity now, he didn’t engage in any undercover sleuthing.
He did, however, spot several familiar faces in the crowd at the auction. These guys were still around!
After taking a spin around the Freight Yard, Jason took Sean and the others back home.
Sean noticed that Jason had moved again, but as always, it was still conveniently close to the Freight Yard.
"It’s more convenient here. If anything happens at the Freight Yard, I can react quickly," Jason explained with a smile, "Because of the Zero Dollar Purchase, the Freight Yard wasn’t safe for a while."
Sean expressed his understanding. After all, if those people dared to target the Shopping Center, there was no reason they would spare the Freight Yard.
But Sean trusted Jason. After all, he himself had a crew of his own, Little Blacks; he wouldn’t be afraid of the opposition.
Freya was busy in the kitchen. Hearing the door and Sean’s voice, she ran out of the kitchen happily with her arms raised for a hug.
Sean tenderly hugged the black girl and greeted her with a smile.
Freya had long since abandoned those inappropriate thoughts and felt only gratitude towards Sean. She went back to cooking with a smile, and Jason’s brothers also returned one after another, filling the house with bustle and activity.
After eating at Jason’s home, Sean stayed for a chat before leaving.
His main reason for coming to New York was not for a reunion but for another important matter.
Even so, it was only after he had seen Kathy that he went to look for Joanna.
Sean had sent Douglas to find Smith, the boss from the Shopping Center during the time when Sean was still in New York conducting Container Auctions.
Smith had helped Sean with a lot of goods, and Sean planned to convert most of the items he had salvaged from the sea into cash this time.
It would be more convenient that way.
Joanna hadn’t expected Sean to come looking for her again so soon. She smiled happily and said,
"Just wait a moment, I’ll be done very soon."
Sean sat quietly opposite her, watching as Joanna worked on the computer, dealing with those matters.
Joanna wasn’t young anymore. By the standards of white women’s age, she should have had wrinkles, white hair, and her skin should have become slack.
However, thanks to spiritual energy and the effect of Sean, Joanna still looked beautiful and her skin was in great condition, appearing to be in her early twenties, brimming with youth and vitality.
Soon, Joanna finished her work. Just as she stood up, she saw Sean approach her with a red box magically appearing in his hand.
Sean opened the box, revealing a large diamond ring inside.
"My dear, will you marry me?"
When she heard these words by her ear, Joanna couldn’t hold back her emotions and burst into tears!
How long had she been waiting for this day?
Joanna wasn’t isolated from information; she was aware of Sean’s romantic history.
Helpless, she just couldn’t leave him.
She had thought the two of them would never have a marital relationship.
But to her surprise, Sean had now made such a move!
She covered her mouth, nodding vigorously, unable to speak anymore.
"Well then, marry me," Sean said once more, full of passion.
He would give Joanna a grand wedding!
Even though it wasn’t quite legal or exactly moral.
But for the people involved, who cares about that? The wedding was more important than anything else!
