Chapter 369: No Way

Chapter 369: No Way

“Monet!” one of the boys looked surprised, and a little afraid to see the young woman. But she only snorted, brushing past them—but not before she gave Theron a wicked flash of a grin.

Now Theron got it. It wasn’t just that she wanted to maintain an image for him, but instead that she had built up an image across the entire palace, and among those under her.

She was a fierce tigress, and Theron’s words seemed to remind her that if she was too casual in challenging him for the sake of her little uncle, then her perfectly curated image would come crumbling down.

It would be far easier to let others do that.

The two boys relaxed when they saw Monet slip away.

These two Theron had already seen before, and he even knew their names—a pair of twins, Kieran and Kiedran. Ironically enough, they were about Theron’s age.

But their cultivation… well, it was safe to say that this was more than enough confirmation that this Tyre Clan was on the same level as the Black Clan.

Both of them were just 14 or 15 years old, and yet both of them were Quasi Gold Mancers. It seemed that at any moment now, they could trigger their own Tribulations.

Before Kieran and Kiedran could speak, though, Theron had already stood to his feet.

“Alright. Your elder sister has already explained these matters to me. If you want to fight, then let’s fight.”

The words they had been about to say caught in their throats.

Scholar McIntyre stood on a balcony ledge, his brother by his side. There was a stern look on the latter’s face, but Ott Tyre seemed entirely relaxed, a smile on his face.

“You’re doing the same thing you always do,” Ott’s brother said coldly. “You think I can’t see when you’re goading something on?”

“Brother, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” the Scholar said with a rapid blink. One might have thought that he was truly innocent.

“I don’t have time for your nonsense. Do you really think a little librarian boy is enough to face off against the geniuses of my Tyre Clan?”

“Oh, is that what’s happening here?”

The two looked toward the field ahead of them, a door almost amusingly sticking up from a sea of once-pristine flower beds.

“When are you going to drop the act? You’ve been exactly this smug for years. Do you really want to fall out with your family?”

Ott shook his head slowly. “Grenwin, I’m not sure when you gained this opinion of me, but you’ve got it all wrong. If it was just about this, wouldn’t I have claimed the throne whenever I pleased, then? Clearly, everyone’s fascination with bloodline and purity wasn’t as important as they thought. My existence alone is enough to prove that. Do I have a need for continuous petty jabs?”

Grenwin looked like he was moments from losing his cool again, but by this point, Theron had faced off against the twins—Kieran having won a game of rock-paper-scissors to take the helm—while the little five-year-old stood to the side with Kiedran, hiding behind the latter’s leg as though he was truly afraid of Theron but couldn’t stand to miss him getting his just desserts.

At the same time, on a tree in the distance, Monet stood away from the chaos. She didn’t seem to want to make it obvious that she was very interested in watching Theron get beat up as well, but she definitely couldn’t miss such a chance either.

BANG!

Theron was sent flying, and a wide grin spread across Monet’s face.

Grenwin seemed surprised, and Ott blinked as though he wasn’t quite sure what he was seeing either. Of them all, Ott was the one most certain that Theron had far more strength than that.

By the time the Scholar appeared in the assassin’s guild, Theron had long picked up Elder Black’s head, so he hadn’t seen it. However, Ott knew that Elder Kelyn Black must have been involved somehow. Though he didn’t believe Theron had managed to kill her, he knew that somehow, some way, Theron had managed to get rid of her—maybe relying on failsafes Mesmeralda had left behind.

Regardless, Theron had at least killed geniuses that the Seijin Clan was interested in. He was way more than just this.

Ott’s eyes narrowed. A truly dangerous child, indeed. Not having the slightest bit of ego…

His evaluation of Theron was already high, but it only became higher in this moment.

The main issue was that if Ott wanted to force the issue, his already strained relationship with his family would only become more strained.

He wasn’t entirely sure exactly what buttons to press for Theron just yet, so he would have to try a few things. And if he didn’t get it right the first few times, it would only look as though he was using Theron to taunt his Clan.

In truth, the anger Ott had toward his Clan had faded long ago. They were beneath his notice, and his aims were far higher than all but the so-called Emperor Above knew.

But if they became any more abrasive to his existence, it would make things more annoying for him than they had to be. At least for now, they still tolerated him.

Ott couldn’t help but wonder how much of this Theron knew—and how much he was taking advantage of as a result…

“There’s no way that you’re this weak.” Kieran was stunned for a moment. He didn’t even seem to be gloating—he really was in shock.

He knew how powerful his Grand Uncle was. Why would he take on such a trash disciple who didn’t even have a Light Mana affinity?

Theron wiped blood from his mouth. “I follow my master because of our path of knowledge. He has taught me nothing in the ways of Mancy. I hope that now that you’ve vented, we are done here.”

Slowly, Theron hobbled to his feet and seemed to want to make a move to leave.

“Stop him! Beat him up more!” the little boy poked his head out, practically yelling for Theron’s head.
