Chapter 80: Restoration Plan

Chapter 80: Restoration Plan

Baines and the five pillars of Darkan stood before a glorious vault deep beneath the Darkan lands.

’Is this a lair?’ Baines couldn’t help but think as he witnessed its size. The double doors reached the height of several standing humans.

The Darkan head then placed his hand in the center, and after a few seconds, the large vault opened. What lay before them was a small altar, and several dragon hearts around it.

The dragon hearts of the last dragons.

Before they died, they left their hearts in case they got a clue on how to restore their heritage.

Then behind that altar was the largest dragon Baines had ever seen, larger than the lightning dragon he had earlier met: the ancient red dragon, about 200 meters in size.

Baines wondered why the vault was so huge; but he understood immediately, it was to store this body.

’She was definitely a Saint, at least.’ The residual pressure he was feeling was similar to the blood woman he had met earlier, even though she had been long dead.

"This is the clue our ancestor left for us. But since no one ever knew anything, it was kept here," the Darkan’s head explained as he approached the small altar.

"How do you intend to restore us?" one elder asked curiously.

"We are going to wake her up," Baines pointed at the large corpse of their ancestor.

"What?"

"..."

The elders looked dumbfounded; however, the Darkan’s head asked the question, "How?"

"Using those dragon hearts."

"But she’s dead."

"I know," Baines nodded. ’Is it a dragon thing, that their souls don’t fully disappear after their death?’ At the moment, he could see that sliver of soul left in the dragon. It was smaller than what he had seen in the lightning dragon, but then again, it must have been vanishing as the years went by.

The pillars tried to stop him from approaching the corpse, but he had reached it and placed his hand on her. He endured the pressure crashing down on him and closed his eyes.

He reached for her soul using his soul energy and poured it in. As he opened his eyes again, his surroundings had changed.

Volcanoes of varying sizes in the distance, lava pooling and boiling from the ground, and air that smelled of flame. He looked around without surprise and found a little gazebo towards one end of the land. Maybe it was due to the current state of her soul, but he was able to withstand moving here.

When he reached, he found a stunning woman seated on a chair, continuously watching the volcano. Red hair and eyes like the Darkans, a beautiful and mature face that trumped even Tasha’s, but the aura around her screamed danger.

"How did you get here?" She turned to him and asked. He ignored her question and went straight to the point: "I am helping your descendants regain their heritage."

Her eyes widened in disbelief, then turned normal before narrowing at his words. She asked, "Why?"

Baines took a moment before revealing, "One of your descendants helped me, and I came to repay it."

She stared at him for a while. As if determining he was telling the truth, she asked, "How?"

"Your descendants are under some sort of curse, and the only way to reverse it is—"

"Blessing?" Darka’s eyes widened and she sat up. It was as if she had never considered the fact that a curse could have worked on her descendants.

"Yes, and that’s where your role comes into play..." Baines then explained the process.

After going through so many waves of emotions, she agreed. ’It was worth a try, right?’ She stood up, ready to enact her part, her eyes trying to hide the tears. She was finally doing something about it.

As for the first plan, Baines opened his heart core, unleashing Ashenfall, then Ashenflame.

Just like everyone else, Darka shook at the power. ’What kind of power is that?’ A part of her showed fear, then she nodded in understanding. How long had it been since she sensed fear? And at the same time, it wasn’t complete.

’It’s a good thing he is helping us, right?’ She thought with relief.

What Baines planned to do was create a rift in this realm.

Basically, her body was dead, and her soul was trapped here and he had to break a way through for her to access her body with her soul. He could use soul energy, but it was still at 7 years’ worth, so he turned to the second technique capable of bypassing causality and burning something for eternity, Ashenflame, the first skill of Ashenfall.

His next job was—

Boom! Booom! Boooom!

He thrashed everywhere with Ashenflame.

Lady Darka wanted to cry. Her safe haven was turning into destruction and black flames. Three hours later, a change began to occur. The black flames never once stopped since the beginning.

They rose, raged, and spread like a disease, eventually engulfing the space of the realm.

Soon, the space around the realm began to twist and whine under the strain. Baines moved over to the wreck and unleashed Cleave and Burst to widen the space.

After another hour of suffering, it was enough for her to bypass.

And without having to be told—

Whoosh...

She slipped through the space. Only then did Baines stop, and the wreck’s intensity lowered.

"Haa..." He almost collapsed to the ground in exhaustion.

This was the longest he had kept Ashenfall open for, and he suddenly felt like he understood what Wick had meant by releasing it. For example, Ashenfall was a bottle of water. He could open it, fine and good, but the way he poured it into a cup was by pressing the bottle, not tilting the bottle.

’Maybe the problem is I use it like mana.’ With a final sigh, he left the space, which was already showing signs of fixing itself and stabilizing. This space was changing and rapidly adapting to the black flames, ashenflame automatically became a part of this world. And the effects it would make were unknown for now.

...

As Baines opened his eyes, he found himself drenched to his toes with sweat.

’Moving in the soul realm is quite difficult.’ He exhaled and released his hand from the dragon. He had randomly giving the name "soul realm" to that place he continuously enters.

"How did it go?"

"..." The pillars looked like children at the moment.

They were excited at the thought of restoring their heritage, and at the same time, worried at the moment. At the moment, thousands of soldiers were dying on the battlefield.

"Let’s connect the dragon hearts to the body now."

Nodding to his words, they carried the thirty dragon hearts to the area of its heart.

Then, Eye’s first job was to find suitable spots the dragon hearts could connect with the body. After a few minutes,

[THIRTY DRAGON HEARTS SUCCESSFULLY CONNECTED TO BODY]

Baines nodded and commanded, ’Transfer it’

Eye’s second job was,

[TRANSFERRING ETERNAL ECHO TECHNIQUE...]

After another few minutes, Baines released his hand and weakly took several steps back until he reached the doors. "Haa..." He collapsed to the ground in exhaustion.

"Did it work?" the pillars asked, seeing the indifferent face of Baines.

A part of them wanted to trample on him at his attitude towards them, but then—

RUMBLE...

The lifeless dragon, the ancient red dragon that had been dead for thousands of years, suddenly went aflame.

SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...

The flame spiraled upwards, tearing through the underground vault and piercing through the sky. It was a large vortex of power that seemed to consume everything.

Every gaze in Darkan turned to the enormous flames. The intensity and power in that fire weren’t normal.

Before anyone could act, a voice they all longed to hear echoed around Darkan,

["My children, my descendants, my blood, forgive this one for causing you so much pain. But it is okay now."]

The next voice that came was in the true dragon tongue that twisted the laws of the world,
