Rise of the Lustful Evil Monarch (Re)
Chapter 330 - 330: The Crimson Kill Tower

Third Person's POV

Despite carrying an unconscious blonde demon girl on his shoulder, a sight that would cause stares and questions in most cities, not a single soul gave it more than a passing glance.

Not one voice was raised in curiosity or concern, and it felt as if what he was doing was totally normal.

Yet, something else did make him increasingly uncomfortable.

He began to notice glances that were not from worried onlookers or angry authorities, but from women, mostly beings of different species, ranging from pale vampires to edgy-looking beastkin girls, the distinctly sharp-looking werewolf girls, horned demons, sharp-eared dark elven women, and many more.

Some cast sneaky, furtive glances from beneath hoods or veils, while others stared openly with bold, probing eyes that clung to him far longer than he felt comfortable.

The invasive intensity of their stares was almost primal, and though Ethan was rarely shaken by attention, this time, even he felt the sting of discomfort crawl up his neck.

Thankfully, Virelle had once again donned her signature red veil and shrouded her delicate features in a wave of silk and deceit.

She walked quietly at his side while knowing full well that her beauty could invite the wrong kind of attention and especially here, in the heart of their destination, where a careless encounter might provoke the Abyssal Dominion's prince's attention to them.

On the other hand, Velcy was in her normal scarred, inconspicuous form that seemed to draw no notice at all.

She was fully silent with her gloomy gray eyes matching her detached personality that always remained watchful and wary of the unknown.

Suddenly, without warning, Virelle stopped abruptly, and a sharp gasp escaped her lips.

Ethan paused mid-step and turned toward her with a faint frown.

"Is something wrong?"

Virelle's eyes were wide, and her pupils were dilated with a slight amount of shock as she raised her slender hand slowly, and as her fingers shook slightly, she pointed behind him into the sky.

A surge of curiosity ran through him, and he turned without hesitation.

And even with all the things he had seen in the past few days, he was he saw shocked to no small degree.

In the distance, he could see a colossal black cylindrical tower piercing the burning red firmament like a spear thrown by a god.

Its surface was jagged and uneven, and it looked as if it was chiseled by hands that were too large for the mortal world.

The structure was widest near its base, while looking broader than the width of a mountain, and narrowed gradually as it climbed into the heavens.

Yet, what truly captured his attention was not its sheer size but the strange cloud at its top.

A roiling blackish-red tempest crowned the upper segment of the tower and obscured the top in a swirling shroud of doom.

The cloud churned like it was alive, and it was almost as if he could hear invisible and silent whispers spouting words of secrets and curses alike into the wind.

But even though he tried with all his might, he couldn't put what was being said and conveyed into those vague but mind numbing and frantic whisper like noises.

Suddenly, Velcy took his hand, and he broke away from a strange trance he had unknowingly fallen into at some point.

He looked at her and frowned as her eyelids seemed to be dilated in a similar way to his own.

He placed a hand on her head and calmed her emotions with a wave of his icy soul sense.

She slowly calmed down, and after knowing that he had assured her, he placed his attention back on that place.

Even from such a distance, the black tower looked thick enough to swallow the fading light of the setting sun, and somehow, despite the vast distance, he could feel a thrum pulsing from within it, as if it were a living being with a heartbeat that echoed through time and stone.

He tried to estimate its full height, but the effort felt meaningless.

The clouds covered the top fifth, or what appeared to be the top fifth in his estimate, but the further he gazed, the more he realized that any measurement was futile.

The sky itself seemed to bend around the spire, and he found its peak to be lost to the darkness of the red black cloud above.

For a long moment, none of them spoke as even for Virelle, this was the first time she was witnessing this structure.

As Ethan stared upward, a strange mix of dread and thrill tightened in his chest.

And whatever that tower was and whatever secrets it held, he knew without question that it was the forbidden Crimson Kill Tower Virelle had mentioned.

And it was far, far more than anything he had imagined.

Looking at its presence and the strange sensation both he and Velcy were feeling, he could understand why it was absolutely forbidden to talk about it outside this city and the influence of the swirling Dark Abyss below.

"Looks like we have strayed from our path, haven't we, my lovely Virelle?"

Ethan's voice was low and laced with gentle humour while also carrying a curiosity that hoped for an answer from his all knowing girl, Virelle.

Hearing him speak, Virelle finally broke away from the silent trance that had gripped her, and her gaze reluctantly tore itself away from the ominous tower.

Her scarlet eyes, which had been faintly glowing with an ethereal hue, dimmed and returned to their usual luster, though a trace of something strange still flickered within them.

Ethan's brows raised subtly on seeing this.

He had noticed the same in his and Velcy, too.

It was the same something and indescribable that seemed to attract and invite them to that towering monolith above.

Noticing his reaction, Virelle hesitated for the briefest moment but stopped in her tracks, and Ethan's expression changed at the same time.
