Chapter 92: After the intense battle for survival
Chapter 92: After the intense battle for survival
Morrigan moved through the dark caves with hurried steps, her breath uneven as she kept accelerating. And as a monster appeared in her way, she quickly destroyed it with an exaggerated blast of fire.
Any other beast around, seeing such massive destruction, chose to get away from the woman whose eyes were filled with anxiety.
She didn’t even bat an eye at the creature she had just killed and kept going forward. Her mind was fixated on a single, gnawing thought: Davi might be dead. And she would never forgive herself if this was really the case.
After all, she had promised Amelia she would protect the boy and give him the chance to grow, as both women had great expectations of him.
"There is no way he is really dead, that damn stubborn man would never die so easily," she murmured to herself, trying to calm her soul.
The mere possibility made her chest tighten, a strange mix of anger and dread twisting inside her. And she clenched her teeth, thinking about how Amanda had caused all of that. She would kill that damn bitch if she ever had the chance.
Morrigan clenched her fists. She wasn’t going to panic, she needed to keep her worries under control, and act rationally.
Then the students’ camp’s flickering lanterns soon came into view, and soon many eyes closed on her. However she didn’t spend time talking to them, or explaining the situation, she just busted directly to the improvised jail, where Wein was held Wein.
The man was tied with a chain that drained his mana, and just in case Alexia was around him, looking to prevent him from doing anything strange.
"Did something happen?" Alexia, upon seeing Morrigan seeming worried, asked, equally worried. Her heart sank, noticing how Davi hadn’t come back with the red head.
Anyway, Morrigan didn’t waste time. She strode forward, and grabbed Wein by the collar, and yanked him up.
"Where is he?" Her voice was low, controlled, but there was a sharpness in it that made even the other students flinch.
Wein’s eyes widened in pure terror. "I already told you! We sent him to that place, if he is not there anymore, I can’t tell where he went, if he is even alive."
The professor answered quickly, trying to make clear he had told everything he knew. He wanted to mock everyone saying Davi was definitely dead, but he was too afraid of death to do such a thing.
"Are you telling us the truth?" Morrigan asked again, tightening her grip and looking at the man with a strong killing intent.
Wein almost fainted in pure panic, seeing how angry the woman was. Then he let out a strangled sound, his feet barely touching the ground as he struggled to breathe.
"I swear, I’m not lying! I told you everything, please don’t kill me!" he begged in a pathetic way.
But at that moment, a stroke of luck saved the man from Morrigan’s anger and worry. Because just then, a bright light appeared in the middle of the camp.
From within the radiant glow, a human silhouette could be seen. And then, just as suddenly as he had vanished, Davi reappeared, teleported back by Gilgamesh.
Morrigan’s grip on Wein slackened, and she simply dropped him to the ground. A heavy weight was finally lifted from her chest.
And she wasn’t the only one, everyone there had been, to some extent, worried about Davi’s well-being. At his sudden appearance, relieved and happy whispers could be heard all around.
"I told you, there is no way this guy would get killed!" And Alden interrupted the happy moment, as he said it very loud. To the end, he was the only one who was not worried, because of his exaggerated optimism.
Hearing the guy say such a stupid thing, Alexia just laughed slightly, and soon, others followed. A happy feeling took over the place, after all, they had finally done it. They had survived everything, and it was finally time to go back.
However, before things got too chaotic, Sophia’s sharp voice cut through the cheerful atmosphere. She firmly asked everyone to remain calm and to save the celebrations for when they were back at the academy and safe.
Reluctantly, everyone agreed with the blonde. As much as they wanted to celebrate, they understood that it wasn’t the moment to relax.
Then, several students surrounded Davi, wanting to know what happened and if he was okay. Sophia even approached, wanting to examine him.
However, all of this was interrupted by Wain’s exaggerated scream, who was shocked to see that the boy had survived.
"How... What happened to my creation? How did you escape it?"
Normally, the professor would have just stayed quiet, hoping they would forget about him. Wein was terrified that they would decide to execute him.
However, at that moment, all his rationality and other feelings were buried by his concern for his creation. He had spent night after night working tirelessly on that beast.
In a way, that was the work of his life, and he simply couldn’t believe that that monster could have been defeated.
"Shut up," Alexia hit the man’s stomach with the hilt of her sword, feeling irritated by his attitude. "It’s obvious that my master killed your stupid creation."
"No, that’s not possible, it can’t be killed," Wein scoffed at the girl’s words. He had absolute faith in the work he had done.
Surprisingly, Davi asked the crowd around him to step back, then he approached the professor with an admiring look. He had no affection for that man, but he couldn’t deny that his work had been well done.
"Indeed, it wasn’t an easy opponent. How did you manage to do that? I thought the idea of an artificial monster without a core was just a theory."
Most of those present didn’t even understand the meaning of Davi’s words. After all, most of the academy’s students focused their studies on practical training, prioritizing combat and survival skills. For them, theory was secondary; what mattered was knowing how to fight and survive on the battlefield.
However, those few who had knowledge of the subject were visibly shocked. Some eyes widened in disbelief, and some even doubted their own ears.
Morrigan, in particular, was genuinely impressed. She knew Wein was talented, in fact, she had known him for a long time. After all, he wasn’t just another skilled student, but the younger brother of her beloved master.
Still, never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined that this man, whom she always considered lazy, careless, and arrogant, had actually managed to achieve something so extraordinary. Creating an artificial monster without a core was a feat that could put his name in history.
If anyone else had told her that Wein had accomplished such a feat, the redhead would certainly doubt it. But it was Davi. He didn’t seem like someone who would misjudge.
He also had no reason to lie at that moment. Besides, she already knew from the written test that the boy had taken that Davi undoubtedly had extensive knowledge of theory.
Wein, on the other hand, seemed completely stunned. His eyes trembled with pure disbelief, and for the first time in a long time, he seemed truly worried.
"Wait... how did you find that out?" he asked, his voice laden with tension. He didn’t want to believe it, but something inside him said that maybe... maybe it was true.
He took a step forward, his gaze becoming even more intense. "Tell me the truth," he insisted, almost hesitant. "What happened to my creation? How the hell did you survive?"
Seeing the man’s disbelieving look before him, Davi sighed. It was a little annoying to be underestimated like this.
"I defeated it," he declared absolutely, his cold eyes intimidating the man before him. "I managed to unravel its nature after I seriously injured it for the first time..." Davi went on to explain how the fight went.
He omitted many details, for example, he didn’t mention the fact that, in the end, it was Haru who actually defeated it.
That said, hearing about how his beast had been defeated, Wein desperately begged to be allowed to examine the monster’s corpse.
Obviously, Davi refused, especially since he had already handed the monster over to Gilg and had no idea where that being had taken that thing.
That said, Morrigan also wanted to know about it; if possible, she would like to recover that corpse and ask the academy’s mages to examine it. After all, that was a great creation.
In addition, there were other matters that needed to be discussed. Taking all of this into consideration, Sophia suggested that they should meet in a cabin, where they could talk without interruptions, before leaving.
Davi agreed, and a meeting was soon arranged; the participants would be: Davi, Morrigan, Alexia, and Sophia.
Meanwhile, Professor Toki and Sylvia were responsible for observing the prisoners, and Carlos would deal with any other problems that might arise.
