Rise of the Harem King
Chapter 59: Lost Temple Test

Chapter 59: Lost Temple Test

The ground shook, and five stone golems advanced to attack both Sylvia and Davi. The girl reacted quickly, moving closer to her master.

"What should we do?" she asked.

"For now, can you create a weapon for me?" Davi requested, taking another step back to evade the enemy’s attack.

"I can’t make anything too complex," Sylvia said, then created a sword and tossed it to Davi. Next, she formed two blades for herself.

She then charged at the enemies, but her attacks barely managed to deal any damage.

Because of this, she took a step back, trying to create some distance. However, at that moment, the core of the golem glowed, and it fired a bluish beam.

The attack itself wasn’t too powerful, but its speed made it nearly impossible to dodge. As a result, Sylvia was grazed by it.

Then, before she could catch her breath, another beam came her way. At the same time, a third golem fired a beam toward the girl.

There was no way she could dodge all those attacks at once. But suddenly, before the enemy could touch her, it was sliced in half by a <moon slash>.

At the same time, the bird Davi had summoned distracted two enemies. And the boy blocked the beam with his own hands.

He felt his skin burn, but thanks to the defense bonus from his <shield>, he managed to withstand it. Immediately after, he retaliated with a <Moon Slash>, destroying the golem in front of him.

Sylvia also reacted quickly, and with both of them now understanding their opponents better, they managed to defeat the remaining golems with relative ease.

Thanks to that, they could breathe a sigh of relief for a moment. After all, soon after, the two heard a warning echo in their minds.

’Congratulations on completing the test of worthiness. Because of this, you have proven yourselves as candidates for the challenge.’

The voice echoed directly inside their heads, its tone brimming with excitement, almost as if it couldn’t contain its own enthusiasm.

’Prepare yourselves, for the first challenge will begin in 10 minutes.’

’I expect great things from you. After all, you are the first to visit me in so many centuries.’

The voice sounded almost tearful, as if it were trying to contain a deep emotion buried within its chest.

’Please, try not to die too fast, it would ruin all the fun.’

Then silence fell, and a blue screen with a timer appeared before the two. There, they could see the time counting down as the challenge drew closer and closer.

To make matters worse, when Davi looked around, he noticed that all the exits from that area had been sealed.

Immediately, he tried to destroy the doors and walls, but without any success. He couldn’t even make a scratch. In other words, it was impossible to escape that place.

"What should we do now?" Sylvia asked.

"First, can you explain to me how your abilities work?"

Davi knew very little about the girl. He knew she was from the Adasi family, and he had seen her fight a bit. So he assumed she had the ability to create objects. But he didn’t know anything beyond that.

If they wanted to come up with better plans to deal with their enemies, especially when they didn’t even know what the challenges would be, he needed to know what tools they had at their disposal.

"I can’t tell you. My sister asked me to be careful when revealing my powers," Sylvia replied.

"But this is an order," Davi tried, even though he suspected it wouldn’t work.

As he expected, Sylvia refused to explain, saying that her older sister’s orders took precedence over his.

"Okay," Davi said resignedly, "but I hope you understand that our situation isn’t easy. The more information I have, the better our chances of getting out of here alive."

Sylvia didn’t respond immediately; she seemed to delve into deep thoughts. First, she evaluated everything she knew about the boy, both what she’d heard about him and what she’d seen firsthand.

He was determined, intelligent, had strange powers, and seemed to be trustworthy... For a moment, she recalled how he had moved quickly to protect her from attacks, even putting himself at risk by blocking the laser.

At the very least, he wasn’t someone who would easily abandon others. Moreover, from what Davi had said, he managed to lead the lower-ranked students, ensuring their survival. What prove his ability as a good master,

And she didn’t believe he had any reason to lie about that. Considering all this, perhaps it was worth the risk...

Sylvia approached the boy and pointed the blade of her sword at his neck. In response, Davi merely looked at her with a confident smile.

"Can I trust you?" she asked, a hint of distrust in her voice. Her eyes looked filled with a deep fear of betrayal.

"Yes," Davi replied with all the confidence in the world.

"Okay, I think I can tell you about my powers. I’ll trust you, but don’t betray my trust." She pressed the sword slightly against the boy’s neck.

Davi smiled, fully understanding the threat he’d received. Sylvia also smiled, almost imperceptibly, and the sword in her hand vanished into thin air. Then, a new blade formed in her hand, but it looked different from the others, with an almost ethereal bluish glow.

"But I want you to tell me about your abilities too. And know that I’ll report everything to my sister afterward."

"Okay, I think that’s fair."

"One more thing, do you trust me?" she asked.

Davi shrugged and replied the way he figured she wanted him to. "Yes."

"Okay," the girl said, and in the next instant, she plunged her sword into the boy’s chest.

However, he didn’t feel any pain. It was almost as if he hadn’t been pierced at all.

"Sorry, but this will hurt a bit; just wait," Sylvia said.

And shortly after, the pain finally arrived. But it wasn’t the pain of being pierced. It felt as if his entire body was freezing from the inside...

"I see, so you don’t know where Davi is..." Alexia sighed, her chest tightening.

After hearing the entire story told by the surviving students, she couldn’t help but fear that Davi had sacrificed himself to save them.

She really wanted to believe he was still alive, but it was hard to hold onto hope at that point.

"Honestly, I think he survived. That guy isn’t the type to die easily," Alden said, his optimism seemingly unshakable.

Perhaps because he had spent more time with Davi, but the boy was absolutely certain his friend would survive somehow, no matter how absurd it seemed.

The others looked at him as if he were crazy, but many found comfort in his words.

"But the most important thing is to think about our next steps, don’t you think?" Marc, who had finally recovered, joined the conversation.

They needed to decide whether to search for Davi or move on to the next floor once and for all.

"I think we should wait," Alexia commented. "It’ll be safer than wandering around aimlessly until we find Sophia."

"Besides, you’ve all survived here so far. With the two of us here, it should get easier," Alden added, trying to sound optimistic and lift everyone’s spirits.

"But we don’t have Davi," Hao quickly pointed out. And, it was clear from everyone’s expressions that they agreed with that statement.

Without his leadership, it was hard to believe they would have survived up to that point. That said, the injured still needed to recover, and Alexia wanted to at least wait for Sylvia.

After all, "even if you decide to go to the next floor, I’ll stay behind and look for Davi," she explained, leaving no room for disagreement.

In that sense, it would be very helpful if the others had someone to protect and guide them until they reunited with Sophia.

Thanks to all this, after a bit more discussion, they decided to spend one more day in the area recovering.

Additionally, Alexia would take on the role of leader, alongside Marc. Alden was tasked with exploring, searching for Davi, and, above all, checking on Sylvia. After all, they were both worried that she still hadn’t shown up.

When Alden returned to the previous floor, he found the floor boss dead but saw no sign of Sylvia. So he assumed she had left.

Or perhaps something worse had happened. But the boy chose not to dwell on it too much. As for his exploration, he naturally found the massive hole left behind by Davi but decided not to risk exploring it for now.

Still, the scale of the destruction made it clear that the explosion they had heard earlier was related to that. And as soon as he got the chance, the boy would try to descend into that hole.

The only problem was that he didn’t have any useful skills for the mission. In any case, with that, he decided to head back and help prepare the defenses.
