Chapter 51: The light of hope
Chapter 51: The light of hope
Davi tried to think quickly about the best strategy to survive at that moment, so he needed to start understanding the situation they were in.
It didn’t take long for someone to suggest that they had been teleported there using the crystals. Davi supported this theory, after all, he had definitely felt as if he had been teleported.
However, the most important thing was to figure out where they were. Just from the presence of killer flowers, it was possible to tell they were in a deep part of the Rift.
At least they probably weren’t too far from the others. First, because teleporting a large number of people to a very distant location would be almost impossible. And second, because one of the students knew that this type of deadly plant usually appeared around the fortieth floor, which was close to where they had originally been sent.
That said, the most crucial factor was their surroundings: a narrow cave, almost completely dark, with apparently only one exit.
Of course, being surrounded by plants that could kill you if you touched them by accident wasn’t ideal. But it also provided some level of protection.
Most of the larger and more powerful monsters on that floor wouldn’t be able to enter such a confined space. On the other hand, if they stayed there too long, they would die from a lack of food, not to mention the constant risk of accidentally touching one of those vines.
Beyond that, the plant tended to grow in the direction of living beings. That’s why the first order Davi gave was to carefully cut any vines they saw growing along the ground.
And after removing the danger, at least for now, they could also take advantage of the powerful poison produced by the plant.
Fortunately, among the students, there was an [Low Alchemist] who managed to extract the potent venom from those deadly flowers. By coating their weapons in the poison, they had a real chance of taking down even stronger monsters.
However, to maximize the venom’s potential, they needed someone who could attack from a distance. With that in mind, Davi looked around, searching for someone who could fill that role.
That’s when his eyes landed on a small, fragile figure curled up near a rock. It was a boy named Hao, who carried a bow on his back, looking around anxiously while his body trembled. His hands clung tightly to his own legs, as if trying to shield himself from the chaos around him.
Davi couldn’t help but notice how delicate the boy’s face was. His features were soft and strangely delicate for a man. His slightly messy, shoulder-length hair fell over his face, making him look even more fragile and feminine.
Seeing this, Davi approached the archer, crouching down beside him. He didn’t want to waste too much time on this, but he knew the boy needed motivation.
"What do you want?" Hao asked, slightly startled upon noticing Davi had approached him.
In response, Davi gave him a reassuring smile. "You know how to use that bow, don’t you?"
"Uh..." Hao hesitated, his lips trembling. For a moment, he thought about lying, but quickly gave up on the idea. In the end, he gave a barely perceptible nod.
"I... I do, but..." he finally murmured. "I’ve never been in a real battle. I won’t be of any use. I’m just a Rank E student."
"And I’m Rank F," Davi countered with a wide grin. Then, he placed a hand on the boy’s shoulder and looked deeply into his eyes. "Can you tell me your name?"
"Hao..." the boy admitted, his voice uncertain.
"Hao," Davi repeated in a calm voice, "None of us have ever fought anything like this before." He tried to instill confidence. "Of course, surviving won’t be easy, but what else can we do? Do you want to die here?"
"No, I..."
Davi smiled. "The situation may not be ideal, but you have a skill that can save all of us. I don’t know if you heard, but..."
The boy calmly explained about the venom and how Hao could take down powerful enemies with a single shot.
Hao looked at Davi, his eyes still filled with uncertainty. "And what if I miss?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.
"Then I’ll figure it out," Davi said lightly, joking. Then, he pointed to the boy’s quiver, which held just over 20 arrows. "Besides, I’d say you can afford to miss at least a few times."
"Well, yes..." Hao replied uncertainly. "But my skills are weak."
Davi stood up and extended his hand to the boy. "Come on, stand up. Trust me, your class isn’t weak. I will prove to you that you can fight. We’ll survive because I’m here."
For a moment, the boy’s eyes seemed to shine, then he grabbed Davi’s hand and stood up, his energy seemingly renewed. That said, he was still trembling with fear.
Next, Davi continued talking to the others. He tried to motivate those who seemed terrified. It wasn’t easy to give hope to those students, especially when they were aware of their own weakness, but he needed to motivate them somehow.
And after some time, the atmosphere in that place seemed to have changed. Everyone knew the chance of death was very high. Still, in their eyes, you could see a small glimmer of hope.
No matter how bad the situation, people don’t lose hope when they have a good leader to follow.
"Why waste so much time talking to those useless ones?" Marc, however, didn’t seem to understand the value of all that. "We have more important things to do. We need to come up with a plan to escape this place. Besides, about the food..."
Faced with this, Davi simply smiled softly. "No need to worry, I can make them useful. I’ll get us out of here, believe me."
Then, he lightly touched the boy’s shoulder while reassuring him once again that things would turn out fine. After that, he praised Marc, as Davi had noticed that he was the type who performed better with encouragement.
Moreover, despite his aggressive and somewhat arrogant personality, he was undeniably the only person there, aside from Davi himself, who would have the courage to step up if things went wrong. That’s why Davi decided to make him his second-in-command.
However, the peace they were enjoying quickly came to an end, as a student ran toward Davi, shouting that one of the monsters he had summoned had been killed by a beast that was advancing toward them.
Davi could only sigh at his own bad luck. He hadn’t even had time to prepare his defenses. To make matters worse, he couldn’t even use his ability again.
Still, he at least had time to sharpen his claws.
He already knew the abilities of all the students there and could come up with a plan to face any opponent. At the very least, he wouldn’t die easily.
"Prepare for combat," his voice rang out clearly through the cave as he began giving instructions.

Sophia had just finished organizing the camp, ensuring everyone was ready to depart.
That said, it would be a slow journey, she wanted to make sure everyone returned safely. Because of that, they would avoid larger monster groups, taking the longer but safer route.
However, before leaving, she had to make a decision.
The blonde stared at Toki’s charred corpse for a long time. Enough time had passed for her to use again.
In theory, she could bring back anyone who had died within the last 50 hours. Which meant reviving her teacher was entirely possible.
Still... was it the right choice?
She hesitated, weighing her options. On one hand, aside from Silvia and maybe Alexia, no one here could match Toki in combat.
On the other hand, he was far from trustworthy. Besides, how much could a teacher who had been defeated so easily really contribute to their survival?
That said, something compelled the blonde to revive him. Miracles move people, and more than ever, she wanted to stir their hearts.
Yes, magic was common in this world, but was so rare it was almost a legend. In fact, only one other person in all of history had ever brought someone back after so much time.
A demonstration of such power would only reinforce in everyone’s minds that, as long as Sophia was around, they were safe.
She sighed once more.
"Carlos, can you summon an explosive beetle?" she finally asked.
Her loyal companion, standing beside her, was stunned. Doing something like this to a teacher was a serious crime. That said, he would never disobey Sophia’s orders.
"If this ever goes to trial, I’ll take full responsibility," he said, summoning the creature she requested.
"Don’t worry. Once we’re out of here, I’ll make sure the only one punished is that weak-spirited man," Sophia said, picking up the insect and placing it on the corpse’s neck.
The beetle burrowed into the man’s skin and settled inside.
"Besides, he should be eternally grateful to me. After all, I’m bringing him back from the realm of the dead."
As she spoke, a massive surge of mana gathered around her.
Unlike her previous uses of this power, reviving someone whose body had been destroyed was far more difficult.
But she could do it.
"As repayment, the least he can do is be my obedient dog," the blonde said with a sadistic smile. Then, her voice thundered:
"Revive."
A blinding light engulfed the area, drawing the attention of every student as they once again witnessed death being denied before their very eyes.
