Rise of the Harem King
Chapter 47: Fight for your life

Chapter 47: Fight for your life

Chaos erupted...

Instead of being sent to the first floor of the Rift as expected, some kind of error seemed to have occurred, and all the students were transported to a deep point within the Rift.

And if that wasn’t enough to throw them into despair, the situation quickly worsened.

Surrounding the small group, twelve monsters came into view, they looked like giant praying mantises. These creatures were commonly found at that depth of the Rift and, more importantly, were classified as Rank A monsters.

In other words, they were enemies that, in theory, could only be defeated by a group of Rank A students or a highly skilled Rank S fighter. Though these classifications were somewhat arbitrary, these creatures were undeniably formidable foes.

Finally, emerging from the shadows behind the others, there was a colossal praying mantis, twice the size of the rest. Its carapace displayed an intimidating blood-red hue, while its deep black eyes emanated an aura of pure hostility.

Unlike the other monsters, this one was a Rank S creature. Then, the beast opened its insect-like mouth, releasing a repulsive sound, probably its version of a roar. And with that, the king of the small group of enemies the students had encountered gave the order for its minions to attack.

As the horde of monsters closed in, the first to react was Davi. He unleashed a furious <Torrent of Fire>, attempting to keep the creatures at bay.

Then, without hesitation, he charged forward, cutting through the flames in an attempt to catch an enemy off guard and decapitate it with <Moon Slash>.

His blade gleamed as he spun flawlessly in the air, but at the last second, the insect managed to block the attack, narrowly avoiding death.

With no other choice, the boy stepped back, escaping the praying mantis’s reach just before it could grab him.

Seeing this, a broad smile formed on Sophia’s face as she recognized the talent of that boy. As expected from the man she had chosen, he was the first to act in a moment of crisis.

The blonde quickly used her ability to enhance Davi’s attributes as he fought two opponents at once.

Realizing he would soon be surrounded, Davi had to change his strategy and shouted to the people he trusted:

"Aden, cover my back! Alexia, give me support!"

And with that, the counteroffensive began.

Sophia had no intention of standing idly by either, so she ordered Carlos to assist him. The professors also stepped forward, along with Silvia.

Still, all they managed to do was form a temporary defensive structure. Many students were unable to participate in the fight and needed protection.

It was clear that if the battle dragged on, they wouldn’t be able to keep everyone safe.

That’s when Davi had an idea. It was risky, but if what he knew about these insects was correct, this was their best chance.

He activated <Beast Transformation>, reinforcing his body, then immediately used <Dragonification>. Using so many buffs at once pushed his mind to the limit, sending a wave of searing pain through his body.

And yet, he grinned defiantly and surged forward, aggressively ignoring the lesser enemies. If he could take down the King of the Praying Mantises, the rest of the swarm would naturally collapse.

His blade gleamed once more as he unleashed <Moon Slash> against the colossal creature.

Predictably, the king blocked the attack with ease. Then, the massive insect swung one of its long arms through the air. Davi barely managed to evade the strike.

The real problem came when, before he could launch another attack, another mantis joined the fight and struck him from behind.

Obviously, the king’s subjects wouldn’t let their ruler be defeated so easily.

A sharp pain ripped through Davi’s body as his blood splattered onto the ground. His knees buckled, and he collapsed, unable to move, as his predator loomed over him, ready to devour him whole.

But then, a comforting warmth enveloped him. Suddenly, all his pain vanished. And he heard the blonde’s voice declare:

"This is a good plan."

After healing Davi, she cast another buff on him.

"Everyone, focus on keeping the enemies away from him!"

She ordered, then raised a protective barrier around the weaker students. Even as the mantises struck it with full force, the shield didn’t waver.

"I’ll buy you one minute, so use everything you’ve got and finish the job."

Sophia didn’t know exactly what Davi’s class was, but she had a pretty good idea of how it functioned. After all, she had been watching him during the second test and knew he could unleash immense power for short bursts of time, making him temporarily overwhelming.

Among all the fighters present, he was probably the only one who could take down the king within a minute. So, she bet everything on him.

However, if he failed, defeating this enemy without casualties would likely become impossible.

But regardless, as long as she was there, they would win.

Thanks to her intervention, Davi could focus entirely on the battle ahead. Understanding exactly what he needed to do, he gathered every ounce of power he could borrow, for one final minute of absolute devastation.

Davi took a deep breath, feeling the rush of power coursing through his veins. His blade trampled, with the amount of power that was being pondered to it.

The Praying Mantis King screeched, its crimson exoskeleton gleaming ominously under the battlefield’s light. Then, with a guttural, spine-chilling roar, it tensed its massive limbs, preparing to unleash its full fury upon its opponent.

With a swift motion, it lunged at him, its massive scythe-like arms slicing through the air with terrifying speed.

Davi barely dodged, rolling to the side as the ground where he had just stood was split open by the sheer force of the monster’s attack.

He had no time to hesitate. Summoning all the strength his body could muster, he dashed forward, his blade igniting with the power of the <Moon Slash> once more.

The king roared and met his attack head-on, blocking the strike with one of its powerful limbs. However, this time the insect was forced to step back, feeling a chilling pain go through his body, as his exoskeleton showed a small crack. After all, Davi’s attack was much more powerful this time.

However, before Davi could capitalize on the damage, the king retaliated. Its free arm came down like an executioner’s axe. Davi’s instincts screamed at him, and he twisted his body just in time, the blade narrowly missing his head.

But he wasn’t fast enough to avoid it completely, his shoulder was slashed open, pain flaring through his body.

Gritting his teeth, Davi ignored the pain, and advanced with a powerful upward slash, severing the damaged limb of the mantis. The creature let out a shrill scream, ichor spraying from the wound.

But the battle was far from over.

Enraged, the king leaped backward, raising his remaining arm. Then, with unnatural speed, it began vibrating its wings, releasing a deafening, high-pitched screech. The very air around them trembled, and Davi felt his muscles stiffen, the sound was paralyzing him.

Shit! I can’t move! What kind of skill is this? He thought in desperation, as he saw his enemy advance to kill him.

The only thing he was able to do was summon a large bird, which barely managed to buy him enough time. But, luckily, it was enough for him to break free from the paralyzing effect.

Then, he once again used it , attacking the monster with everything he had. He jumped into the fire, using the chaos to hide his presence.

Although the king noticed him as he got close and attempted to kill him with a powerful slash, Davi was expecting this reaction and was able to dodge perfectly by rotating his body to the left.

His blade glowed in the darkness as he completed a circular movement, severing the monster’s limb.

Finally, his enemy was nearly defeated, but Davi could also feel the heavy weight of the battle. He was nearing his limit.

For that reason, he advanced forward with all the might he still had left. Channeling every ounce of strength, he launched himself at the stunned king. His sword gleamed brilliantly as he spun through the air.

The Praying Mantis King barely had time to react before the radiant blade cleaved through its neck, severing its head from its body.

For a brief moment, silence fell over the battlefield.

Then, as the king’s corpse collapsed to the ground, the remaining monsters began fleeing, afraid they might meet the same fate.

Everyone sighed in relief as they had finally overcome the crisis.

Then destiny laughed at them.

As if peace would come so easily?

At that moment, a hooded figure suddenly appeared and with one punch, he made the weakened David faint.

Then that being stepped on the angry man’s face, because he had killed his precious pet.

However, before the surrounding students could react, two more hooded figures appeared around, and suddenly, one of them decapitated the teacher in an instant, wanting to demonstrate his superiority in combat power.

And this time an even greater despair took over the students, as they saw the head of the one who should have been the most powerful among them, roll across the floor.
