Rise of the Harem King -
Chapter 138: Congratulations on the victory.
Chapter 138: Congratulations on the victory.
The next day, Davi, Alexia, and Lara woke up early in the morning. They quickly decided to start searching around the arena for the rest of their group; it would be bad if they remained divided for too long.
They could only hope that no group member had encountered problems too significant and, therefore, ended up being forced to quit the game.
If that happened, they would proceed in the tournament, but they would have to participate in the rest of the tournament with one less member in their group, which could be a big problem.
In any case, they began the search. Lara used her powers and sensed a girl nearby. She couldn’t tell who it was from that distance, so they decided to run there to check if it wasn’t Ember.
It wasn’t.
The girl appeared to be a mage and, for some reason, was walking through the forest alone while looking around with some concern.
Being alone like that made her an easy target, so the three decided to attack her. And after surrounding her, combat wasn’t even necessary. She simply gave up.
However, what happened next shocked the three. A soft light absorbed them, and in an instant, they were in a white room with Amelia before them.
Looking around, Davi quickly identified Ember, who was lying on the ground. Additionally, the duo Adrian and Alden also looked around astonished after being suddenly teleported.
"Congratulations, you have won the first phase," Amelia said with a deep sigh. Her expression didn’t seem particularly happy.
Davi looked at the woman, perplexed. The first phase was a survival competition and was supposed to last three days. And Davi was sure that three days hadn’t passed.
Furthermore, he didn’t see any other groups around, only his own. This was quite strange.
But Amelia didn’t bother to explain. Instead, she proceeded quickly to the permissions.
All members of the group received a certain amount of money, as well as a medal, which could be considered the equivalent of a certificate earned in a vocational course. The function of the medals was to be added to their resumes in the future if they wanted to go into the private sector.
"Furthermore, there is a special permission for the member of the group who contributed the most in this phase of the tournament," Amelia finally explained.
This was new; after all, in previous years there had been nothing like it. Because of this, the eyes of all the awake team members gleamed.
In particular, Lara and Alexia stared at each other with a friendly rivalry. After all, they imagined that the prize would be given to one of them; both had eliminated entire teams by themselves.
Of course, Davi had done the same, but the team he eliminated was much weaker, so he would hardly be the winner.
"Just one thing," Davi interrupted. "Shouldn’t we wait for her to wake up before you announce the result?"
The boy stared at the redhead sleeping on the floor. Her breathing was regular, and she didn’t seem to have any injuries, so he wasn’t worried about her safety. But it would be a little unfair to declare the winner while she was still sleeping.
"Well, she wasn’t the one who won," Amelia explained, with a look that said it didn’t matter. "But she still has to receive her reward for defeating the arena boss. I think we can wait a bit, but wake her up quickly..."
"Wait, she defeated the Arena boss?" Lara asked excitedly upon hearing about her best friend’s incredible feat.
"Yes," Amelia replied, then began to tell the story excitedly. The awards ceremony was also being broadcast, and she wanted to make it at least somewhat interesting for the people watching.
Meanwhile, Davi approached the redhead, who was still a little exhausted after spending so much mana in the fight. But she woke up slowly upon hearing her beloved’s call.
The two exchanged a brief kiss, then she stood up beside him, staring blankly. The girl was still too sleepy to think much about her situation. And Davi had said everything was fine, so she didn’t even worry.
"Okay, back to the awards ceremony," Amelia said, as a screen appeared behind her, broadcasting an idiot running while fleeing from monsters. "For indirectly causing the elimination of 20 students, Alden will receive the prize."
Upon hearing that, Davi’s jaw dropped for a moment while his mind did some simple calculations. He, Alexia, and Lara had eliminated entire teams by themselves, which meant there should have been three groups left to defeat in the arena, not counting their own team. But adding up all the students Alden eliminated...
Finally, he understood. That scared girl was the only remaining competitor outside of their team, which was why they had been teleported.
And that was also why Amelia was a little unhappy. When someone wins too easily, it naturally diminishes the excitement of the game.
Anyway, after also giving Ember her prize for defeating the arena boss, Amelia snapped her fingers, sending everyone back to their homes and ending the broadcast. But she left one person behind: Davi.
"Do you want to talk to me?" he asked, noticing he had been left behind.
"I admit, it was a good strategy," Amelia sighed, commenting on what Alden had done. She was under the false impression that it had been Davi’s idea.
"To tell you the truth..."
The boy quickly explained that it wasn’t planned at all, which made Amelia burst out laughing. And neither of them could fully understand what went through the boy’s head to do that.
From the video, it also didn’t look like he was intentionally eliminating teams; he was just running desperately and tirelessly.
"One more thing, what’s going to happen with the second phase of the tournament?" Davi asked. In theory, they should face the survivors of the first phase, but there was no one left.
"What else can I do..." Amelia sighed. "You’ll go straight to the third and final phase. But the sponsors won’t be happy about this at all."
The woman seemed tired of having to deal with all this. Lately, her workload had increased a lot, partly because of what happened when she arrested Amanda. Several council members and other high-ranking people lost their positions, and their work ended up falling on her shoulders until a replacement was found.
"Can I ask you for a favor, Davi?" she said in a tired voice.
"You want me to make the semi-final interesting?" Davi smiled. If she was saying that, it was because she already knew they would probably face a weak group. She probably wanted them to hold back a bit so the fight wouldn’t end so quickly. "You can leave it to me."
Pretending to be weaker than they were would also be good for hiding their trump cards for the fight against Sophia.
"You can go home," Amelia said and sent the boy back to his residence.
In the following days, his team had to wait for the first and second phases to end so that their opponents could be selected.
In those few days, Davi had his group train some joint combat techniques. But most of the time, he just watched what Sophia’s group was doing.
He wanted to know as much as possible before the actual fight, but he didn’t get much information because she easily passed the phases.
The most important discovery was learning that the woman had Ember’s brother on her team, which made the girl more tense for when the final would happen.
As for the semi-final, the day of the competition finally arrived, and Davi did exactly what Amelia had asked him to do.
He asked the girls to hold back a bit, prohibiting them from using the abilities he had granted them. And this helped to balance the competition.
Their enemies weren’t terrible, but they were also far from powerful enough to defeat Davi and his group in a fight.
Even holding back, the semi-final fight was still an elegant massacre. Davi and his team managed to contain all the enemy’s attacks. And despite Alden being a bit dramatic at times, they didn’t even suffer relevant damage.
In the end, Lara and Ember managed to take down most of the enemies, working very well as a duo. At least the combat was excellent in that regard.
Adrian ended up being unnecessary, but his stamina increase or mana recovery abilities would be very useful in the final.
Davi, on the other hand, didn’t end up doing much during the combat, which would lead many to say that he wasn’t powerful enough to be the leader of the group, but that mattered little.
Ember would get annoyed hearing that, but the boy found it just useless gossip. If necessary, he would show his power, but with the fight controlled, he had much more to gain by taking a step back and observing his team.
