Chapter 135: Fighting the monster
Chapter 135: Fighting the monster
Ember looked around and sighed deeply, noticing that she was in the middle of nowhere without any of her companions nearby. No matter where she looked, she could only find destruction and death.
However, in that place, just a few days ago, there had been a large and majestic forest. However, now it was difficult to find any trees nearby because that thing had destroyed everything in its path.
And soon the woman would meet the one who caused all this destruction.
"Just where the hell am I?..." She murmured leaving her hand to her chest. She didn’t have a good feeling about that place.
Anyway, she took a shaky step forward, her boots crunching on charred ash where green once ruled. The redhead wanted to look around if she could find some of her comrades, or at least a good place for shelter.
Then she felt something getting closer. The mana in the air was distorted. Her flames, normally swift and obedient, wavered around her.
Ember’s breath hitched as the ground beneath her trembled, a low rumble echoing through the desolate wasteland. Her fiery red hair whipped around her face as she turned, her green eyes narrowing to pinpoint the source of the disturbance.
The trees, or what little remained of them, groaned as a massive shadow moved just beyond the smoke in the horizon. Ember’s breath hitched. The presence she had sensed before was no longer hiding.
It stepped into view. Then she saw the massive shadow emerging from the ground, the arena boss.
It was a creature of nightmare, Its massive frame loomed over her, each step cracking the scorched earth, and its eyes, two burning coals, locked onto her with predatory intent.
The grotesque creature had a thick, chitinous armor, and jagged claws, longer than her forearm, dripped with some viscous, black substance.
Ember’s heart pounded, but she clenched her fists and instinctively she took a step back, her hand twitching towards her sword.
She could feel, just by looking, that this opponent would be a very hard one. But Ember was no ordinary explorer, she had been trained to overcome fear and react properly in such situations.
Ember stood her ground, a fireball already forming in her hand. And soon enough, she had launched the attack at the beast, using it as a small distraction.
She charged, but not forward. She wouldn’t approach blindly. She needed to assess its weaknesses, if it even had any. The chitinous armor looked impenetrable. Perhaps the eyes? Or maybe there was a vulnerability she couldn’t see yet.
Trying to find any weakness, the woman moved quickly, encircling the creature, searching for any part of its massive body that seemed weaker. As she walked, the flames wavered intensely around her.
Suddenly, she thrust her hands forward, and a torrent of flames erupted from her palms, spiraling toward the beast. The fire hit its target, but the creature barely flinched—the heat seemed to fuel its own molten core.
The beast reared back, its massive arm swinging down like a meteor. Ember barely rolled aside as the ground exploded where she had stood, sending molten debris flying. The heat seared her skin, but she gritted her teeth and kept calm.
Then she saw a torrent of flames approaching.
The only thing she could do was fight fire with fire. So the woman hurriedly activated her ability: <Fire Torrent>.
And the two massive torrents of fire collided with a thunderous roar, unleashing a blinding explosion of light and heat that turned the scorched battlefield into a blazing inferno.
"You’ve got to be kidding me," she muttered, facing the towering creature now sizing her up.
It didn’t speak with words, but his eyes seemed to challenge her, to show something more. Ember’s flame dimmed, then flared back in defiance.
Fire against fire.
A terrible match-up to the girl.
Obviously, that massive creature had more mana than her, and more destructive power, to make matters worse, it naturally had resistance to fire based attacks, because it also had fire power.
But she had no choice, she wouldn’t give up without putting up a good fight.
The boss lunged again, faster this time. Ember barely managed to leap back, but the shockwave sent her crashing into the charred remains of a tree. Pain flared up her spine, but she forced herself up, her mind racing.
Seeing how her enemy approached, she hurriedly launched a fireball in its direction, trying to gain at least a few seconds. But the atack didn’t slow down the creature, that just absolved her blow.
It absorbs fire. Of course it does. She thought, as she rolled to the side, escaping a massive wave of fire that approached her.
She needed another approach to defeat that monster. But what could she do? She was not creative or versatile like Davi. And she was all alone.
Normally, the only thing she knew how to do to defeat enemies, was to keep burning them until they could fight anymore.
"Come on!" Still, she roared with a cry of battle.
I will just find a way to defeat that thing, she though
However she didn’t even an instant to think. Her chest heaved as she dodged another sweeping claw, the impact cratering the earth where she’d stood moments before.
The shockwave sent a spray of ash into her eyes, but she blinked it away, her green gaze locking onto the creature’s movements. It was fast, faster than its size suggested, and its fire resistance made direct assaults futile.
However, she saw a minuscule crack appear in its armor. The beast was not invincible.
With a determined snarl, Ember planted her feet, her hands igniting with a fierce orange glow. She channeled her mana deeper, drawing on reserves she rarely tapped into, feeling the heat radiate from her core.
"Let’s see how much you can take!" She shouted.
Then she activated <fireball> unleashing a barrage of blows in rapid succession. Each one slammed into the beast, its chitinous armor glowing brighter with every hit as it greedily absorbed the energy.
The arena boss roared, its body trembling as the antlers pulsed with an unstable light. Ember pressed harder, her arms shaking from the effort.
The only thing she could try to do was overwhelm the creature with a massive fire power, she didn’t have any other way to attack.
And she finally got to force that monster to roar in pain, as she got to break it’s thick armor of quitina.
But the beast wasn’t defeated yet. With a deafening bellow, it unleashed a counterattack, a massive wave of molten fire that surged toward her, fueled by the energy it had absorbed.
Ember’s eyes widened, and she dove to the side, the heat singeing her clothes as the wave scorched the earth. She hit the ground hard, rolling to extinguish a spark on her sleeve, her breath ragged.
"Too close," she gasped, pushing herself up
The creature staggered, its movements sluggish, the overload of fire energy clearly taking a toll. However, it seemed to regenerate quickly, absorbing the man from the surrendering.
Ember’s heart sank noticing how powerful her enemy was, but she also got to prove he was not invincible. If only she had more fire power...
Well, she had more fire power, even though she hated using that form, because of what happened the last time.
With a risinight sigh, Ember activated <Queen of hell>.
Her body was engulfed in intense flames, and her body changed, as did her eyes, as she transformed into something new. Something far more powerful than her normal self.
The flames danced violently around her, ready to burn her enemies with a heat greater than that of hell itself.
Thhn she used <firestorm>.
With a single motion, she raised both hands to the sky, and the chaos began.
A vortex of fire erupted around her, swirling upward into a massive inferno, before crashing down toward the arena boss like a divine judgment. The firestorm engulfed the beast.
The creature roared in agony, its once-proud form writhing under the assault. Its chitinous armor cracked and melted, glowing orange before bursting apart.
The antlers, once pulsing with absorbed energy, exploded into cinders. It tried to retaliate, to lift its massive arm, but the fire tore it away mid-motion, reducing the limb to ash.
The monster dropped to its knees, overwhelmed, screaming in pain as the flames ate through everything it had. There was no room left for resistance. No space for breath.
Only fire.
The firestorm raged on, now so intense it carved trenches into the earth, turning stone to magma and air to smoke. Ember stood at the center of it all, unmoving, untouchable, her silhouette flickering like a goddess of wrath.
Then, with a thunderous explosion, the inferno reached its peak, and in one final blaze of glory, consumed the beast entirely.
Only ashes were left;
Silence followed.
Them, ember passed out, following in the ground, in that waste land, were no other life form had been left.
"I won," she murmured, feeling the exhaustion due to the depletion of mana.
