Chapter 29: Lunch

’780 System Points and I still haven’t opened the System Store again...’

Liam hadn’t had any free time to do nothing lately, so he hadn’t reopened the System Store. But now, he finally did.

Sitting on a chair in front of the school building, he opened it immediately, wanting to see what he could buy now.

(Pills!)

(Weapons!)

(Skills!)

(Artifacts!)

(Pets!)

This time, Liam found that all the menus were fully accessible.

He opened the Pills Menu first to see what kinds of pills were available.

Tier 1 Life Pill <50 Points>

Tier 2 Life Pill <200 Points>

Tier 3 Life Pill <750 Points>

Tier 1 Strength Pill <500 Points>

Tier 1 Defense Pill <500 Points>

Tier 1 Agility Pill <500 Points>

Tier 1 Stamina Pill <500 Points>

Tier 1 Vitality Pill <500 Points>

Tier 1 Mana Pill <600 Points>

(The Strength and other attribute pills will permanently increase the related attribute by 1 point!)

Liam was immediately drawn to the pills—they could permanently increase an attribute by one point. It might seem small, but it was still valuable.

However, the price was a bit steep.

He didn’t rush to buy anything.

Instead, he opened the Weapons Menu next to see what kinds of weapons he could purchase.

Tier 1 Sword <100 Points>

Tier 1 Spear <120 Points>

Tier 1 Shield <150 Points>

Tier 2 Sword <400 Points>

Tier 2 Spear <430 Points>

Tier 2 Shield <450 Points>

Special Tier 2 Sword <750 Points>

(Special weapons can release an elemental attribute of your choice upon purchase!)

Reading that description, Liam became interested in the Special Tier 2 Sword.

Still, he chose to open the Skills Menu third.

But after opening it, he immediately lost interest. Nearly all available skills were C Tier, with only a few B Tier.

Even though the B Tier skills looked strong, he wasn’t interested in them.

In the Artifacts Menu, he found only one item:

Apocalypse Home <700 Points>

(A portable 18-square-meter home with walls that cannot be penetrated by zombies below Level 5!)

Liam couldn’t say the house wasn’t useful. But he was reluctant to spend 700 Points on it—after all, he only had a bit more than that.

In the Pets Menu, there was only one item:

A Level 4 Husky Dog priced at 500 Points.

There was no way Liam was interested. He already had a Husky that he got for free.

’Maybe I should just buy the Mana Pill,’ he thought.

The main reason he chose the Mana Pill over the others was that, among all attributes, Mana seemed the most useful.

Without further thought, he bought the pill.

DING!

(You’ve purchased a Tier 1 Mana Pill for 600 System Points. You can retrieve the item from your Inventory!)

(System Points: 180)

As soon as he got the notification, Liam took the pill out of his inventory.

It instantly appeared in his hand, looking like a blue, glowing gum-ball that emitted a faint blue light.

Melly, who had followed Liam and was now sitting with him in front of the school, couldn’t help but be surprised when she saw it.

After briefly examining it, Liam popped it into his mouth.

It melted immediately, and he could feel some sort of mysterious energy flowing through his entire body.

(Mana: 6.3) +1

In an instant, his Mana attribute increased, and he could clearly feel the difference—even if it was only one point.

"What did you just eat?" Melly asked.

"Just a pill," Liam replied without offering more explanation.

Melly, knowing he wasn’t someone who talked much, didn’t press him further.

Not long after, Lisa suddenly came down from the second floor via the still-stable staircase.

"Liam, the food is ready," she said to him.

Liam nodded, but Melly looked very excited.

"Finally, some cooked food," she said.

"It’s not free for you since you didn’t help," Liam said just as she was about to get up.

She was stunned, giving him a disbelieving look.

"One plate, 10 System Points," Liam added casually.

Although the woman had joined his team, she had only received help without offering much in return.

The minor help she gave—clearing the flood water—had already been repaid.

And the food this time was something Liam had gathered himself. It wasn’t team property.

He might not mind sharing it with Alex since they were close friends, but not with Melly.

System Points could be transferred to others, and based on Liam’s observations, people had earned them before by cooperating to kill higher-level zombies or monsters.

Naturally, Liam was interested in earning System Points this way.

If other students were interested, he could sell food to them.

Melly was silent for a moment before nodding with a forced smile.

"Alright, I’ll pay," she said.

She began manipulating her System interface.

The System Points menu had a feature for transferring points. Melly just had to select the person from the list of people she had seen.

DING!

(You’ve received a transfer of 10 System Points!)

(System Points: 190)

Liam got the notification shortly after.

He couldn’t help but smile slightly.

"You can eat now," he said to Melly.

He then climbed the stairs, signaling for her to follow. She followed behind with a slightly pouty expression.

Lisa didn’t say anything, though she clearly understood what was going on.

When Liam entered one of the classrooms on the second floor, he found all the kitchen supplies neatly arranged, and the classroom desks had been reconfigured into a large dining table. On top of it were several plates filled with grilled meat and some stir-fried vegetables—enough for ten people.

The aroma was mouthwatering.

Alice, who had cooked the meal, stood calmly beside the table while Melly looked eager upon seeing the food.

She was clearly starving—she had only eaten bread that morning and had been moving around since.

Liam sat down casually beside Alice and asked her, "Can you still eat this?"

Alice shook her head.

"I’m not hungry and no longer have any desire for human food. Even when I tasted a bit, there was no flavor," she replied.

Liam furrowed his brows slightly at that, feeling a bit sorry for her, though it wasn’t something he could change.

Without saying anything else, Liam started eating, putting a piece of meat in his mouth—it tasted even better than he expected. Even Melly was surprised by how delicious it was.

Just as they began to eat, several students suddenly came up to the second floor—including Joel, Anthony, and several students who had joined them, including Carlos.

Behind them, more students appeared to be peeking in.

Just because the warehouse had enough supplies for a few days didn’t mean they weren’t tempted by freshly cooked food.

One day without a proper meal was enough to unsettle their minds, driven by the natural human craving for real food.

"Hahaha, Liam, you’ve got a lot of fresh food—why don’t you share some with us?" Joel said loudly, laughing without shame as he expressed his intent.

Looking at the food on the table, he clearly wanted it badly.
