Chapter 59: Doing Something Stupid
Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Doing Something Stupid
Uh oh. Am I going to be caught now? In front of Sister—again? I got away last time, but if they’re here again, that must mean they have something more concrete. Maybe they found something from the Illicit Lovers? But that’s impossible... I researched this. Telekinetic murders are the hardest to solve—they leave no evidence. The only traces would be from her... Tomoe. But Tomoe didn’t kill them. I did.
Would they arrest her instead of me? Would that mean... I framed her? But... that is illegal.
Riley was the one with a storm of thoughts spinning in his mind, yet among all the students present—he looked the calmest. The rest craned their necks, straining to catch even a whisper from the instructors and detectives.
And of course, the most invested were the members of the Baby Crew. How could they not be, when—
"...Are they here to interrogate our snowy boy again?" Bella narrowed her eyes, her neck almost stretching more than it should as she did her best to eavesdrop even just a single word.
"S-shit..." Gary’s face was now a complete mess. He was just crying from Spectacular Mustache Man’s speech, but then his speech turned into a rant, and now the police were here, "Could it be... Riley actually killed that pedo?"
"Do you want me to kill you?" Hannah quickly raised an eyebrow at Gary.
"Y-you know, guys..." Pauline whispered, "...Is it just me, or does it feel like time’s moving so slow? They only interrogated Riley yesterday, and yet it feels like a lot of things have already happened."
"Well..." Victoria squinted her eyes at Bulwark and the others, "...as they say, time moves slow when you’re with friends?"
"Umm... I-I think the quote says the opposite?" Pauline whispers.
"Does it?" Victoria blinked a couple of times.
"What... do you think they’re really talking about?" Hannah covered her mouth.
"Do... you want me to listen in on them?" Gary whispered as he leaned closer to the group, "I have very good hearing."
"Can... you do that?" Hannah gulped as she glanced at Gary, "I’ll... owe you one if you could."
"Heh, now that’s something I can get behind," Gary smirked as he leaned back, closed his eyes, and tilted his head slightly—facing Bulwark and the instructors. "What are they saying?" Hannah gulped, leaning closer. The others followed—even Tomoe, who had been completely silent until now. "Ssh!" Gary shushed them, eyes still closed. And then... he walked away. "Where are you going?!" Hannah yanked him back. "What did they say?!" "How would I know?!" Gary hissed. "What the fuck? I thought you were listening to them?!" "What? No! How could I listen if I’m here?" "Don’t you have super hearing?!" "No." "Then what was with the whole eyes closed, ninja pose bullshit?!" "I was doing my Ninja Rituals to prepare for spying." "You—don’t actually go near them, it’d be too obvious!" "You told me to listen in!" Gary scoffed. But then his eyes lit up, and he raised a finger. "Wait... I have an idea."
He slowly turned his head toward Silvie, who—surprisingly—was still with them and not her class. "Psst..." he whispered. "...Don’t you have super hearing?"
Silvie did not respond to him at first, she only looked at them before adjusting her mask to see if they were still neatly placed around her eyes. And when she was sure it was, she quietly approached them and said,
"...Yes?"
"Great... you can listen in on them for us."
"Gary, she’s from the other class—don’t involve her in this," Hannah said, but still, she looked at Silvie like she was expecting something. Silvie, however, shook her head and sighed.
"That’s... unethical," she said.
"Then—"
But before the Baby Crew could fully rope Silvie into their antics, the detectives finished their talk with the instructors.
All of them straightened instinctively as the detectives turned toward the group—only to walk past them, heading instead for Chieftain Amerika’s class.
Oh? They are not here for me?
Riley tilted his head, taking a step back from the rest of the Baby Crew to try and see what was going on more clearly.
"Who here knew Ms. Stephanie Evans?" Chieftain Amerika raised her hand, and Steph’s group of friends immediately looked at each other before stepping forward.
"We... we’re her friends!"
Chieftain Amerika then gestured to the group to follow her and the detectives, bringing them to the corner of the street to discuss something.
Uh oh. This... is not good, is it? They are obviously questioning them about Stephanie—and since they do not like Sister, they would definitely tell the detectives that she and Stephanie fought against each other yesterday... and that would eventually lead to me.
Riley’s eyes narrowed slightly as he looked to the ground. He then turned to look at Steph’s friends and the detectives again, only to see Steph’s friends looking at their group.
’Uh oh. Are they telling them about Stephanie’s fight with Sister now? I can not let them do that. Should I... kill them now? From here? Am I able to do that—to stop their heart all the way from here?’
Riley once again lowered his head, and then he glanced at his sister.
I can not let you get involved in this, Sister. I need to do it, I need to kill someone right in front of you. Forgive me, Sister. The detectives would probably become suspicious of me now if I am successful in killing them—they are not stupid. But at least, you will not get dragged into this.
I will never let you get dragged into this, Sister.
Riley’s eyes focused back to Steph’s friends—and as he did so, the veins on his neck started to etch out from his skin. He took in a deep breath, his fingers twitching as he tried to find send out some sort of telekinetic net—trying to isolate the heartbeats of Steph’s friends.
But he couldn’t feel anything, not at all. But most importantly, the net would be too obvious, and the detectives might also feel it.
And so, Riley tilted his head to the other side as he changed his tactic.
He changed this telekinetic net into something different—into... a wave, water, and then... into something like a mist.
And he waited and then waited. Until finally, a ripple.
Oh, there you are.
