Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Riley vs. Silvie
"And seeing your leg blown off would be very entertaining, Megagirl."
"Is... that supposed to be funny?"
Once again, everyone became quiet. This time, however, most of the other students weren’t looking at Riley at all, but rather at Hannah. Hannah was completely oblivious of everyone’s stares, and if it wasn’t for Bella nudging her arm, she would’ve continued watching the match with what looked suspiciously like pride glowing in her eyes.
"What?" Hannah whispered as she glanced at Bella.
"Girl, everybody be starin’ at you," Bella leaned closer to her, "And I ain’t know Riley was that wild. He fr fr? He ain’t serious... right?"
"Oh..." Hannah blinked a couple of times as she glanced around. And when she saw that everyone was truly looking at her, she just shrugged and turned her focus back to Riley, "Yes, he’s serious."
"He... is?" Pauline covered her mouth. Even Gary gulped when he heard that. It was only Tomoe and Victoria who didn’t react to her words.
"What are you even... Oh!" Hannah gasped before chuckling, ""I mean, he’s serious, but not really. Dad taught us to taunt and mess with opponents, get in their heads. Psychological warfare, he calls it. I told you, Dad started training me how to fight when I was like five. He trained Riley even earlier at four years old."
"Your dad did that?" Pauline whispered. "But... when we met him, he seemed so nice."
"Yeah, he looked chill."
"He is," Hannah waved them off like it was nothing.
"But trainin’ a four-year-old to throw hands? Ain’t that like... child abuse or somethin’?" Bella asked.
"No...?" Hannah frowned thoughtfully, then shrugged again. "...Is it?"
And while the rest of the Baby Crew were talking to each other, the battle between Riley and Silvie came to a standstill. Silvie had already fully recovered, but her eyes were now glaring straight into Riley’s eyes.
"Is that supposed to be funny?" She repeated her question to him as he did not respond the first time.
"No, is it?" Riley tilted his head to the side, "It—"
And this time, it was Silvie’s turn to cut Riley off as she launched at him, fully destroying the already cracked pavement beneath her feet. No, she didn’t leap—she flew. She flew low and fast, her face nearly scraping the concrete. She moved like a missile, her golden hair trailing behind like a wake of fire.
"She’s fast!" One of the students hollered as they all followed Silvie with their eyes. They all then turned to Riley, who still had not left his spot at all. It was really only when Silvie was just yards away did he reacted, but instead of dodging, he leapt toward her. He twisted his body in the air with eerie grace and planted a hand on the back of her head.
But Silvie was ready.
She brought both fists down on the ground, causing the ground to explode and catapulting herself upward, slamming her head directly into Riley’s.
"Tch..." She then quickly landed back on her feet, not letting down her guard as she looked at Riley. After all, when she slammed her head onto his, it felt like she headbutted a spring-loaded wall instead.
As for Riley, well, he was still upside down, floating in the air with his hand once again pointed at Silvie. This time, however, he did not motion a gun with his hand. But instead, he slowly gestured to Silvie to come.
Silvie stared at Riley for a moment, her lips twitching uncontrollably—then a smile slowly crept across her face. Without a word, she launched herself forward... but not toward him. Instead, she flew to the nearest parked car.
She gripped the rear bumper and, with a sharp breath and a low grunt, hurled the vehicle at Riley like it was nothing more than a toy.
Riley raised a telekinetic wall in front of him, the car slamming into it hard enough to crack the invisible surface. The wall slowed it, but didn’t stop it.
"Oh?" Riley tilted his head and darted to the side—only to find Silvie’s fist already waiting for him.
"Got you!" Silvie smirked, but as her fist was only inches from hitting his chest, she felt an invisible force flinging her hand away and completely changing her trajectory—unfortunately for her, this trajectory made her chin meet Riley’s shoulder head-on.
She felt her head slightly shake at the impact, and for a breath, she lost consciousness, only to recover before she hit the ground.
She quickly pushed herself to the side, and just in time, as Riley’s foot was about to stomp her head down. She spun in the air several times before landing on her feet, and without wasting any time, she immediately sprang forward—only to be met with the same car she’d just thrown, now hurling back toward her.
Silvie didn’t flinch. She caught it, twisted her body, and swung it to return the favor. But as she pivoted, the car’s rusted undercarriage tore loose from the frame, sending it spiraling—not at Riley, but directly at the group of students.
"No!" Silvie quickly let go of whatever part of the car she was holding and chased the car to stop it from hitting anyone else. But before she could even fly close to it, she hit her face on an invisible wall blocking her path.
"Tch!" She didn’t care that her nose started to bleed, she slammed her fist on the invisible wall and shattered it. She surged forward again—only to hit another wall.
And this time, she could only watch as the car hurtled toward the crowd.
But just before impact, Spectacular Mustache Man’s tendrils of facial hair coiled around the car, catching it mid-air like a cradle and setting it gently on the ground.
And as they retracted back to his face, Silvie saw him looking at her, shaking his head disappointingly.
"That..." Her fists clenched as she whipped her gaze back to Riley... who was still floating mid-air, a wide, delighted grin on his face. "You... did that on purpose?"
"Yes," Riley said calmly. "I also caused the car to break apart, Megagirl."
"We could have hurt them!" Silvie gritted her teeth.
"No," Riley corrected her. "You could have hurt them, Megagirl."
"Huh..." Silvie’s lips once again began to twitch. And soon, her eyebrows lowered as she glared at Riley. And then, with a small growl, her eyes started to light up with a violent, red glow, "...They weren’t a part of this battle. You shouldn’t have done that."
"They are here, Megagirl—that alone makes them a part of it."
"They’re civilians. Bystanders," Silvie growled. The glow in her eyes intensified, sparking and flaring. "Harming them is against the law. And there’s a price for that."
"Well," Riley shrugged, tilting his head to the side, "I am prepared to pay, Megagirl. Are you?"
"With my life," Silvie’s feet once again began to leave the ground.
Meanwhile, the other students just watched in shock. Even the Baby Crew were looking at each other.
"Uh..." Pauline looked around, "...Shouldn’t we stop this?"
"No," Gary, on the other hand, stretched his arm to the side, "Let them continue farming aura."
"...Why is this school so cringe?"
