Chapter 241: The shows about to begin
There are a lot of things that can affect the outcome of trials, and some go as far as to prevent its completion. The Game master views this as a loss since the amusement of the gods comes first and foremost. Because the players are unpredictable, and if one weren’t swayed by bountiful rewards, they’ll forcefully do so. The position they have as the GM is nothing to ignore for they have absolute control of the trials and their unknown effects
"Can you increase your speed any further? We need to reach our destination before we run out of time. We must get that person before our plans are set in motion," She said whilst clinging to Kyo Min-soo when he entered his max speed
"Can I ask you something... what did the boss say to you when you were alone? Is it something that I can’t know or some shit,"
"Nothing much, I just asked him why he was busy, he didn’t appear preoccupied but he denied my request. I wanted him to come along, but he said we were already enough. Plus he said something along the lines of ’I haven’t had enough screen time’ since we left the second trial. Do you know what he meant?"
Kyo twists his neck and faces her with outright confusion and replies. "Beats me? Boss is hella weird, to be honest, I meant that in a good way. He’s a mage for fucks sake but he didn’t deny my sparring request. Let’s talk about this another time, the location checks out. The view is quite horrific, are ya sure we’re in the right spot?"
After a long and tiresome sprint, he stopped and gently dropped her off the ground and later they faced a bloody trail. Arrows embedded in the trees and everywhere they look seemingly fresh and a hit of blood alerted Kyo Min-soo. He quickly covers Quon for the worst to come but shortly he calms himself for the lack of hostility
"Follow me, looks like he followed the master’s instruction. He hardly left any evidence of his presence, if he was a little more trained I thought he’d be dead. I might have a different body, but I’ve been assigned to a mana-sensitive vessel, I can feel him. He’s badly injured at that, I’m impressed he’s still kicking, guess he’s not worth underestimating,"
The two demons ventured further to the bloody parts of the forest in search of the person they tasked themselves to find. In their path, they come across some monsters and traps, and when they are nearing their destination, they’re met with an encounter. Arrows quickly went for their lives along with a few magics that bombarded their surroundings whilst covering their view
"Did we get them?" A player said in elven tongue upon rallying a few elves in their faction to lead the attack
"It’s a pity we weren’t ordered to kill,"
Kyo Min-soo appeared on their backs and with his demonized hand their sent flying to the sky above. They received scratches, laceration and some had their ankles cut in hopes of them following their path. Quon on the other hand remained undamaged from their spot for an undead army shielded her from their attacks
"Leave it there, Kyo Min-soo. We don’t want to cause some worthless commotion, now I understand why Esther’s been kept on a tighter leash. I thought it was one of the master’s kinks but I guess it has to do with what has slowly begun affecting the masses. This effect targets the mind and as it progresses will be driven to kill opposing races without a thought. Come on, we need to go,"
She quickly got ahold of herself and they once again searched the area once the undead brought the elves to their side. The end of their path lies in the depths of a gorge hidden by such absurd illusions for the unfortunate to fall. Kyo’s monstrous physique was enough to handle the fall and they finally met the person they ought to fin
[Elven forest inhabitant: Averia Aeoulus (Park Hyunsu)
Role: Mediator of elf and demon kind
Race: Dark elf
Gender: Female
Specialty: Mystic archery, Scouting, Stealth]
They found an injured Elven woman who turns out to be Hyunsu who volunteered as the bridge of both the Elves and Demons "You guys sure took your time,"
"You sure had it rough... you became the unlucky few who got their genders mixed up and now you got beaten to a pulp. Looks like everyone wants a piece of you after finding out you tied with the demon aye?" Kyo replied whilst he poured their potions and healed every hit of injury embedded in his vessel
"Urgggh, thanks! But I don’t need your pity, I already knew what was to come if I continued. Well, the outcome is better than I imagined, I thought I bleed to death. So when should we start the tour? I know this place like the back of my head, but first, you didn’t kill anyone, right?"
Once he asked that question the two were now reminded why they’d been ordered to do so. It seems that Park Hyunsu was willing to side with Christopher Morris if his life and his comrades were spared. Even though he was a trusty pawn for Persevis he already knew of his status once he became shifted to a dark elf. His status went downhill when the war was announced and due to switching sides he was highly thought of as an accomplice
’Morris nim it seems like you found a better story than what you’ve written, but never have I thought you’d be the antagonist. Well, there’s no turning back, at this moment im no longer a person of great importance to the cult. I’m just a rogue and someone accused of being a spy, traitor, and everything in between. You were right im too soft, and I’ve been had by my seniors. Looks like I have a lot of enemies in the cult, I’ll make sure to find them once this whole thing ends. If it weren’t for his DM I would’ve thought this would be the end of me, even if im used I can’t deny his a lot better. Since he’s unpredictable and if he’ll betray it’s nice knowing he’ll stab me in the front,’
"Don’t force yourself, we can wait here until you’re fully recovered,"
Even though Quon hadn’t pressured him in the least, he ignored her kindness and stood his ground. "No! I don’t know what’s going on, but you lots were sweating like a hog in search of a guide. A few bones cracked but I can hold my ground, can you just lend me... a hand, for a while,"
The both of them sighed in relief and they began their preparations from the gorge they sought to be the perfect start. Quon flew from the air and runes began appearing and forming a circle from below, above, and to her sides and the lands grew rotten. The buried bones succumbed to her call, and monsters, humans, and other races rose from eternal slumber
"Is she a—"
"Necromancer? Yeah, she’s great in the lines of magic but her main strength lies in calling the dead. In the next trials, I wouldn’t even doubt if she calls a bunch of ghosts. What’s great about her ability, is that if she comes in contact with a player’s soul they can become her slaves. So if you die or anyone else you care about it wouldn’t matter,"
As the dead rose from one place to another her army of relentless freaks grew in size with such little endeavor. Meanwhile, the main character was in for a treat after three days passed they met a rather familiar fellow. A blonde pointy-eared man approached them with no hint of hostility and greeted them with warmth
"What a coincidence, I didn’t think I’d see you guys before the start of the fourth trials. Weird right? My characters face is quite identical to my very own, the name Alphen, but you could call me, Morris,"
Silas and Zeke tried to keep their composure but everything went downhill when they saw a certain someone clung to his arm. Her radiating hair was unmistakable and her figure down to the tone of her voice, they were certain. It was Esther, the person which every player in the band of champions at their sight desired in returning her to the capital. Though panicked their surprised at how they managed to keep the radiating divinity from ever being detected
[Why isn’t this a clever idea?]
’Thanks to Esther’s divinity it cancels out the ever-suffocating amount of demonic energy. The Elves are highly sensitive to both divinities, this is the reason why they’re a neutral faction. To protect the world tree they remain unbiased for both good and evil will desire to reach the tree. It’s not much but this marks the first step, the rest will be decided from the remaining pieces, now where are we? Oh right, Zeke... buddy I think it’s time for your debut,’
The look Christopher Morris had sent shivers down his spine, Zeke knew what meant by his sinister smile. For better or worse he steeled himself, it seemed his role was nearing its end, and was certain of one thing in particular. That he was undoubtedly fucked, Morris’s smile shows his thoughts and the one he displayed was only present when chaos occurred
