Chapter 87: Come Over
Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Come Over
Seeing the milk tea in Shen Yubai’s hand, You Shuzhen smiled gently, "You kids, Auntie doesn’t drink milk tea, it’s for you young people."Shen Yubai still handed one cup to her, "Auntie, this is lemon tea, it won’t keep you awake, it’s sour and sweet, please try it."
It was hard to refuse such kindness.
You Shuzhen took it anyway, "Alright, thank you all, you chat, Auntie will go back and cook."
Xu Chuning couldn’t even get a word in before You Shuzhen had already dashed to the back.
Suddenly, only she and Shen Yubai were left in the small shop.
They looked at each other, Xu Chuning pursed her lips, thinking about what to say, but Shen Yubai spoke first, "Drink it?"
"Was it bought by Yu Gaoyi?" Xu Chuning asked.
Shen Yubai: "No, I bought it."
He lifted his gaze slightly, slightly displeased, "What, can’t drink if I bought it?"
"..."
Xu Chuning paused for a moment, took a couple of steps forward, "I didn’t say that."
Shen Yubai gave a faint smirk.
Xu Chuning reached out her hand, Shen Yubai lowered his eyes, and placed the milk tea in her palm, "Drink it, I didn’t let the owner add anything suspicious."
Xu Chuning choked up, about to say he wouldn’t even have that capability, first sensing something, she looked at the milk tea in her hand in surprise, "Hot?"
Shen Yubai spoke casually, "Any problem?"
Xu Chuning: "...Why did you order a hot one?"
It was too hot; she wanted something cold.
Hearing this, Shen Yubai’s lips curled upward slightly, his tone casual, "You can drink something cold?"
Xu Chuning subconsciously wanted to reply how couldn’t she, then suddenly thought of something, her eyelashes fluttered, she unconsciously pursed her lips and spoke softly, "Thank you."
Shen Yubai didn’t respond.
Now it was just the two of them in the small shop.
Xu Chuning took the milk tea, poked it open and tasted a sip; it was the three-part sweet Jasmine Milk Tea she liked, it was warm, and actually quite delightful to drink.
Shen Yubai watched her movements, silent.
After a moment of silence, Xu Chuning looked up, "Aren’t you going back?"
Shen Yubai casually sat down on a chair, his voice light, "I don’t need extra lessons."
Xu Chuning: "..."
Unarguably.
After a few seconds of silence, Xu Chuning said "Oh", "Then suit yourself, I’m going to study a bit longer."
Shen Yubai slightly lifted his chin, indicating for her to do as she pleased.
The two shared one table, You Shuzhen finished cooking in the back, and glanced into the shop now and then, observing the two sitting face-to-face with not a single word exchanged.
Seeing this scene, she sighed lightly, somewhat at a loss for words.
Others might not notice, but she had long realized, Xu Chuning and Shen Yubai might have had a quarrel. If not for a quarrel, Shen Yubai wouldn’t have been absent from the shop for breakfast for so many days.
Xu Chuning and Shen Yubai didn’t notice You Shuzhen’s gaze. One was reading a book with his back to You Shuzhen, while the other was playing with a phone, relaxed and comfortable, not appearing at all like someone who had an exam the next day.
After cramming some ancient poems, Xu Chuning pulled out her math workbook, her weakest subject that needed extra attention. However, math isn’t something to memorize blindly; it requires understanding and integration.
Xu Chuning worked on two problems but suddenly got stuck.
After pondering for a few seconds, Xu Chuning looked up at the person across playing with his phone; Shen Yubai was intently looking down, absorbed in whatever he was viewing.
Xu Chuning pursed her lips, hesitating whether to call him or not; he preemptively lifted his eyes and looked at her, "What’s up? Can’t solve a problem?"
Xu Chuning was always humble when it comes to studying, she hummed affirmatively, feeling no embarrassment in asking him for help, "Geometry problem, do you know it?"
Shen Yubai: "Let me see."
Xu Chuning turned the exercise book towards him.
Shen Yubai glanced at her and hooked his finger.
Xu Chuning stared at his distinctly knuckled finger, puzzled, "What?"
"Come closer," Shen Yubai said softly, "how can I talk to you from there?"
Xu Chuning: "..."
She looked at the distance between them, wondering why not, since they weren’t separated by a large table. However, facing each other to discuss problems, it was indeed a bit difficult for her to see the problems clearly.
Thinking this, Xu Chuning honestly moved her chair closer to the side of Shen Yubai.
Just after moving over, Shen Yubai spread out his hand toward her again.
Xu Chuning: "What do you want?"
"Pen." He was concise.
Xu Chuning, speechless, silently placed the pen in her hand into his palm. Shen Yubai took it, circled the key information in the problem, and told her what the focus should be on solving the geometry problem.
Xu Chuning had never attended class in the same classroom with Shen Yubai. She knew he was first in their grade, but she had never heard him discussing problems or answering any questions.
This was the first time.
When Shen Yubai explained the problem, he was more patient than Xu Chuning had expected. His voice was clean and clear, not hurried or flustered, and it was very pleasant to listen to.
During the explanation, when Xu Chuning didn’t understand something, he didn’t show an expression of disdain but calmly explained it to her in another way.
Unknowingly, Xu Chuning was really listening.
She was not very good at geometry, always losing points on geometry questions in every exam.
After getting a new math teacher, she had caught up a little, but compared to Shen Yubai and the others, she was still quite behind.
After explaining a problem, Shen Yubai turned his gaze to her, his narrow eyes slightly drooping, his gaze deep, "Understand?"
Xu Chuning: "Hmm, thank you."
Shen Yubai returned the pen to her, lazily saying, "You’re welcome."
Xu Chuning took it, then suddenly looked up, "Could you... help me with one more question?"
Shen Yubai: "Which one?"
Xu Chuning: "The last major question from the last monthly exam."
The last major question of the monthly exam, Xu Chuning had gotten it wrong.
When the test papers were distributed, Lai Yongliang quickly reviewed it in class, but Xu Chuning didn’t understand. She took the opportunity to ask him but was severely criticized by Lai Yongliang for not paying attention in class, among other things.
Afterward, that type of problem was shelved by Xu Chuning.
Shen Yubai: "Let’s take a look at it."
Xu Chuning bent down to pick up her bag and flipped out the test paper.
Shen Yubai took it and glanced at it, surprised, "Didn’t the teacher explain?"
"He did, but I didn’t understand."
"...You’re quite honest," commented Shen Yubai.
Xu Chuning: "There’s really nothing bad to admit."
She truly didn’t understand.
Shen Yubai fell silent, lowered his eyes, looked at the problem seriously for a while, then asked her what she didn’t understand.
After explaining the last major question, it was time for dinner.
Just as Xu Chuning was about to take back her test paper, Shen Yubai suddenly muttered while looking at her test paper, "Your handwriting..."
Xu Chuning: "What’s wrong with my handwriting?"
Shen Yubai looked at her, concise, "Ugly."
Xu Chuning choked, glanced at him, "Your handwriting too—" She cut off mid-sentence when she noticed the string of numbers he had just written on his draft paper, his pen sharp, his writing flowing smoothly, the characters slender and forceful.
Compared to hers, Shen Yubai’s handwriting was a hundred times nicer.
Xu Chuning: "..."
