"I will give you my position." the man’s eyes gleamed with blatant greed! This was the best offer he could ever get in his life.

"I heard that you have been attacked recently. Should I return to you?" asked Emma after a pause.

"No, I am fine!" she looked back at Nat, "how is Max." Nat blushed at once, her face looked flustered.

"He is busy with work." she cleared her throat, "he hardly came home and since then, Lisa never returned. So I am at peace."

"Strange..." Nora played with the straw, "I only asked how Max is in general. I never asked about Lisa and his love life." Nat paused. She knew that she was playing. The tone had suggested that Nora was worried that Lisa would create a scene again.

"He likes you. Doesn’t he?" EMma cut in making nat flinch.

"What are you talking about?" she scowled but her anger did not have any effect on the girls.

Emma giggled.

"Oh come on, everyone could see he wanted to kiss you that night. He was drunk, you were alone, I could not believe that he did not kiss you!"

Natalie flushed an even deeper red, looking both horrified and cornered. "He was drunk!" she snapped, brushing imaginary crumbs off her lap. "And I definitely would not let him kiss me."

Emma raised a brow. "Did you stop him, though?"

"I—" Natalie opened her mouth, then closed it again. She looked away, tugging at the edge of her sleeve. "It’s complicated."

Nora gave a low chuckle, stirring her drink with the straw. "You know, for someone hiding behind a wig and lenses, you blush too easily."

"Oh you know much better than us. Alric looks like he wants to eat you everytime he sees you. Even that night, he was trying to please you so much." the woman laughed but Nora just shrugged.

"We will get married soon. Of course, my men should only have eyes for me."

"...." the girls looked at Noa with widened eyes.

Before anyone could answer, a faint glint caught Nora’s eye from the window.

The glass shattered.

Nora felt the searing burn in her shoulder before she even heard the gunshot fully echo. The force threw her sideways off the couch.

"NORA!"

Emma reacted instantly, grabbing the nearest steel tray to shield them and dragging both women to the ground. The second shot cracked through the air, hitting the armrest of the couch where Nora had just been sitting.

"She’s hit!" Nat cried, blood already soaking through Nora’s blouse. Her breath hitched as pain lanced through her arm and chest.

"Sniper—top window across the street!" Emma growled, her instincts kicking in. She scanned the glass shards and the angle of impact. "We need to move, now!"

Nora winced, trying to sit up. "Get to the back room, there are no windows."

"Nat, grab her other arm!" Emma ordered. Together, they hoisted Nora up and dragged her toward the hallway, weaving around furniture as another shot shattered a painting on the far wall.

They did not dare stand up. They crawled on the ground while pulling Nora with themselves. The gunshot that alarmed the whole office and everyone was running around with fear.

"We need to calm them." Nora whispered only to be glared at by Emma.

"We will do that. But you... need treatment, I am calling max."
