Return Of The Heiress For Revenge -
Chapter 485: Take Me!
Chapter 485: Take Me!
"...." stunned words could not describe him anymore. Alric did not know whether to laugh or to cry.
He shook his head and flicked her forehead, leaving her confused. She glared at him.
"I am serious here!"
"Why?" he sighed. "You are overthinking." he could not even believe that a bold and strong girl like Nora was over-speculation herself when she was this gorgeous. "Do you even see the mirror anymore? Or you doubt your scream and moans?"
"..." Nora blushed. She did not know how to reply. Her hands reached for her waist. A man would like to hold it. But Chris had often complained that she killed his mood and now Alric was behaving strangely.
"Then why are you ignoring me? And do not lie, I have noticed it well. You can not fool me." she held him by his shirt, afraid that he would leave.
Alric;s eyes softened and he touched her cheeks.
"Indeed, nothing left your eyes." if only she had been less perceptive or kept her thoughts in her mind.
But no, she had always been strong enough to face her demons.
"I am sorry, I’m worried about you." she blinked and took her hands away from his shirt. She was being too sensitive.
"No, it is just. The suspense is killing me." she shrugged. Suddenly embarrassed by her outburst now that he was apologizing. She did not know what else she wanted. She never wanted an apology! She wanted him.
Should she ask again? But what if he thought she was too desperate?
"Alric i.."
"Please!"
Alric looked at her for a long second, a flicker of exasperation crossing his face before it softened into something more patient, more tender.
"You really don’t let a man keep a secret, do you?" he muttered with a sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "Come with me."
She frowned, but followed him. There was something in his voice—not annoyance, not anger, but a tight rope of emotion he was trying not to let unravel.
They walked through the corridor, the silence between them not awkward now, but buzzing—like the quiet before thunder.
He led her into his study. The warm light from the sconces danced off the dark shelves and polished wood. Nora had been here before, many times, but this time he walked straight to a locked cabinet near the fireplace.
Alric knelt down, keyed open a hidden drawer, and pulled out a slender, lacquered box. He turned back to her, and for a moment, she didn’t breathe.
"You think I’ve been ignoring you," he said, voice low, "when really, I’ve been trying to do this right."
Nora blinked, her mouth parting.
"I had a plan, Nora. A whole thing. A dinner under the stars. Lanterns, music, your favorite wine. Fireworks and drones throwing flowers on you. I wanted it to be something you would remember forever. I even got the chef from that inn you like in Estallé. But you—" he laughed softly, not unkindly, "you wouldn’t stop looking at me like I was about to disappear."
He opened the case slowly.
Inside, nestled in soft velvet, was a diamond ring. Elegant. Uncomplicated. A single glinting stone that looked like it had waited its whole life for her finger.
Nora’s breath hitched.
"So," Alric said, standing and stepping closer, "I thought to myself—if she’s going to keep asking, if she’s going to keep reading me like an open book and ruining all my dramatic efforts..." He took her hand, smiling now. "Then maybe the real surprise is just stopping time for a second. Right here. Right now."
He slipped the ring into her hand, not her finger.
Her fingers curled around it instinctively.
"You were never being ignored. You were being waited for."
Nora looked down at the ring, then up at him, tears gathering but not falling. Her lips trembled, a soundless laugh escaping.
"You idiot," she whispered.
"I know," he said, eyes shining with a mixture of amusement and affection. "So? Do I need to still ask?"
She held the ring between them, her voice barely audible.
"Do it anyway."
He grinned, and this time, he did kneel.
"Nora, will you marry me?"
Her yes was instant. Fierce. Honest.
And this time, it was exactly the way it was meant to be.
Then Alric reached for her gently, his hand brushing her jaw, tipping her face up. His thumb ran along her cheekbone, catching the beginning of a tear before it could fall.
"You were never too much," he murmured. "Not once. You were just... more than I ever thought I deserved."
Nora shook her head, unable to find words, her throat tight. Instead, she reached up, curling her fingers around the front of his shirt and pulled him closer. He didn’t resist.
Their lips met—not in a fiery rush, but in something slower. Deeper. Like a question answered after years of silence. His kiss was warm and grounding, and when her fingers slid into his hair, his arms wrapped around her without hesitation, pressing her to him.
She could feel his heartbeat—strong, steady, just like him. And she melted into it.
He pulled back just enough to rest his forehead against hers, his voice husky. "I wanted to make tonight unforgettable."
"You already did," she whispered, brushing her lips along his.
He kissed her again, and this time it deepened—still slow, but with a hunger he no longer needed to hide. His hands moved down, fingers grazing her back, her waist, settling just above her hips like he was anchoring himself.
She let the ring fall to the velvet lining behind her, uncaring for now. It would still be there. But this moment—they were in it.
He walked her backward slowly, his mouth never leaving hers, until the edge of the desk touched the backs of her legs. He paused, watching her. She nodded, not shy, not uncertain. Alric lifted her onto the desk with ease, his fingers firm on her thighs, his lips trailing along her neck now, finding the sensitive spot beneath her ear that made her gasp softly.
She ran her hands beneath his shirt, seeking the heat of his skin, the feel of him under her fingertips.
"I can not wait anymore, Nora."
"Then take me."
