Chapter 184: Chapter 97: Bloody Battle [5800 words]_4
A silver short spear zipped through the air, only for Lin Wang to catch it effortlessly as he ran.
His mottled blue exoskeleton was marked with burns and impact scars, with electrical arcs occasionally flickering through the cracks.
The tactical helmet visor was utterly shattered.
Beneath the break in the visor, half of his pale face was drenched in blood, while the other half remained eerily white.
"Ren Zhong! You’re dead!"
Lin Wang’s eyes blazed with unending fury.
He had thought killing Ren Zhong would be easier than crushing an ant, but Ren Zhong continuously surprised him.
Lin Wang suddenly lunged forward, twisting his waist, his upper body leaning back, his right hand pulling far behind, turning into a taut divine bow.
The tail of the silver short spear in his hand spewed flames once more, a dozen tiny Mach rings suddenly appeared.
Guided tactical javelin!
The short spear whistled out of his hand with air-tearing turbulence, creating a sonic boom the instant it was released.
Ren Zhong, who had turned around in advance, was forced to stand his ground, channeling all his power into the four bio-metal bearings in his elbows and wrists.
The Arc Light Saber enhanced with Aiman Beast Armor alloy struck horizontally.
A loud CLANG resonated.
Ren Zhong was sent flying sideways for over ten meters.
If not for the reinforced alloy structure of his armor, his exoskeleton would have collapsed on the spot.
Though Ren Zhong successfully deflected the silver short spear, it spiraled through the air, making a wide arc before returning to Lin Wang’s hand.
In that brief respite, Bei Lihui, who had been trapped in the optical illusion smoke, finally escaped in a sorry state.
Previous engagements had depleted his reactive protection equipment significantly. One lens of his Fourth Level Gunsmith tactical goggles was shattered, and his hair was scorched, leaving patches of baldness.
His biochemical combat suit was scorched and had several torn gashes.
Beneath those gashes, deep wounds revealed sections of white bone on his body.
Furious, he raised his gun, trying to aim at Ren Zhong, who was still struggling to find his footing after being blasted away.
But Ren Zhong was on the other side, shrouded in optical illusion smoke.
Without the confidence for a sure hit, Bei Lihui turned his gun towards Zheng Tian’s location.
However, Zheng Tian had already quietly slipped behind the dust labyrinth walls.
Bei Lihui, ears twitching in anger, adjusted his aim towards the edge of another waste pit.
Gunfire!
A spinning heavy bullet shot out, first hitting the waste pit’s edge and then piercing through!
Ou Youning was leaning against the cliff wall of the waste pit.
He was panting heavily, holding a remote in both hands, labeled №1 and №4.
Earlier, to react faster, he had removed the protective casings on the two remaining remotes.
But unexpectedly, the slight noise from unboxing was picked up by Bei Lihui amidst the chaos of flying debris.
A tremendous shock came from behind, and Ou Youning stumbled forward, blood gushing from his throat, almost collapsing to the ground.
He looked down to find a fist-sized gaping hole in the middle of his chest.
"Damn you!"
Ou Youning cried out in anguish, pressing the switches with the last bit of strength in his index fingers.
He couldn’t wait for Ren Zhong’s orders anymore.
0.5 seconds later, four three-meter-high square boxes emerged from the periphery of the battlefield.
Each box contained 100 rockets in a 10x10 grid.
All four hundred rockets locked onto Bei Lihui in his blue combat suit and Lin Wang in his blue exoskeleton, as programmed in advance by Ren Zhong.
Simultaneous ignition!
Simultaneous launch!
Over a hundred rockets aimed at Bei Lihui, and more than two hundred targeted Lin Wang.
Bei Lihui reacted swiftly, completing an ammo switch within 0.2 seconds, launching two self-destruction shock sniper bullets as he swung his Scorpion Lion Gun, triggering premature detonations on either side to intercept the rockets.
One rocket after another detonated mid-air.
Meanwhile, Lin Wang, about to unleash a third javelin at Ren Zhong, had to quickly change tactics, activating the array of thumbs intercepting missiles on his back.
Ren Zhong seized the opportunity to slip into the dust maze walls.
After another round of explosive chaos, Lin Wang charged in the direction Ren Zhong fled, heading into the dust maze, only to see Ren Zhong’s shadow vanish on the other side.
From a distance came Ren Zhong’s taunting shout, "Scoundrel! Your grandpa is here! Come on!"
Lin Wang grinded his teeth to bits.
Blood was still streaming down his forehead, blurring vision in one of his eyes.
With his tactical helmet’s visor damaged, his ability to gather battlefield intel was severely compromised.
A wounded and battered Lin Wang felt a moment of hesitation.
Ren Zhong was just too insidious and cunning, too difficult to handle.
For a brief instant, he was afraid.
He regretted it.
If he had known about this man’s scheming, he would never have rashly come to intercept him.
"What’s wrong? Too scared to come out? If you don’t, then I’ll be leaving! I gave you a chance, but you’re not up for it!"
This time, Ren Zhong switched to the professional team communication channel, taunting directly once again.
Lin Wang quickly snapped back to his senses.
The two had become mortal enemies, and if Ren Zhong escaped, even with backup from Chongyi County’s influential figures, Lin Wang would never have peace.
He gritted his teeth and reactivated the backup power of his damaged armor, cranking the output back to 4000 kilowatts, dedicating most of it to the self-tracking beam gun mounted on the armor’s exterior, charging towards the last known position where Ren Zhong vanished.
Meanwhile, Bei Lihui changed his ammunition yet again.
He opted for Fourth Level Air Burst Bombs.
He wanted to whip up a storm to disperse the dust maze walls obstructing his view.
On the third airburst, he managed to catch sight of Zheng Tian.
Bei Lihui switched ammo once more to Flame Stream Bullets.
Just then, a sudden sense of danger tingled at the back of his mind, prompting him to turn his gun skyward and fire.
From afar, thunder cracked as a glacial gleam appeared.
An electric motorcycle leapt over the mountaintop, hanging in mid-air.
On it, a young boy with a flushed face held a heavy sniper rifle with both hands.
The sniper’s muzzle was aimed squarely at Bei Lihui’s forehead.
White smoke wafted from the muzzle.
A Third Level Impact Bullet came whistling in, colliding with Bei Lihui’s prematurely fired Flame Stream Bullet.
The two bullets exploded against each other mid-air.
The Impact Bullet disintegrated and melted in the air.
The Flame Stream Bullet, turning into brilliant fireworks, shot forward like a meteor streak.
Youthful Yujin, joined the fray with his gun in hand.
