Chapter 106: THE RAGE (2)

At first, Tony wanted to paint the whole affair as if it was only a one time thing, a mistake that he shouldn’t have committed, as if it only happened in a single moment of weakness, but what Dawn said made him realize that she knew everything.

"What do you mean?" Tony was holding onto his last hope that he could talk his way out of it, but Dawn was having none of it.

"I’m wondering, whether you treated me badly because you couldn’t stand looking at me, since I look a lot like my mother, or you couldn’t look at me because every time you did that, you would see the face of the woman you betrayed. Which one is it, father?"

Tony was at a loss for words. He wanted to reach out to his daughter, telling her how sorry he was and how he regretted everything.

"I am sorry, Dawn... I didn’t mean for it to happen." Tony shook his head. As an alpha, he was expected to exude strength, but at that moment, he seemed utterly defeated. His eyes, brimming with tears and remorse, betrayed his usual composure. "I regret everything. I didn’t mean to hurt you and your mother..."

"My mother is dead and thankfully, she died without knowing that the mate she loved, the father of her daughter, had betrayed her." Dawn scoffed. "You should find that comforting."

Tony was fighting back tears. He had gone through fierce battles and gruesome wars, he had also done so many horrendous things in wars, but he never faltered, yet Dawn’s words hit him so hard, he lost all of his strength.

No. Tony didn’t find it comforting at all. If anything, he wanted his mate to know what he had done, he wanted her to be angry with him, slap him, hit him or do anything and everything to take out her rage on him.

But it would never happen, because she had died.

Tony couldn’t provoke her anger, nor could he seek her forgiveness.

"Mother always told me you loved me, but it seems you care more for your mistress and your other daughter than for me, than for us."

Tony shook his head. "No. Dawn, I always love you. You are my daughter..."

"So is Emily."

Tony could feel his whole body shaking, but his dignity as an alpha was the only thing that stopped him from groveling for Dawn’s forgiveness, stopping him from crying out loud and kneeling down in front of his daughter.

He was an alpha, his ego and dignity didn’t allow him to do that, no matter how much he wanted Dawn to know that he loved her and how much he regretted everything that had happened.

"I love you, Dawn. In my heart, you are my only daughter and your mother was the love of my life, she is the love of my life."

"And yet, you brought back your mistress and your other daughter to live under the same roof and abandoned me for years."

Tony’s logic side still told him that this was something they could fix. "What should I do to atone to my sins, Dawn? I will do anything."

He approached the matter logically, yet even now, he remained blind to the full extent of the damage he had caused.

"There is nothing you can do father." Dawn gritted her teeth. Her rage was palpable and this startled Tony a little bit. He couldn’t believe his daughter could exude such a powerful aura. "You failed me and my mother and there is nothing you can do to fix it now, because the day I lost my mother is the same day I lost my father. You are dead to me."

"Dawn... you are upset, that’s why you are being too harsh with me." Tony shook his head and tried to approach Dawn again, to hug her, but she took a step back.

However, Tony didn’t know what a ’harsh’ Dawn could do until she said her last piece.

"It was the wrong parent who died that day." Dawn wished it was Tony, who had died instead.

This time, Tony couldn’t find a word. He couldn’t even find the courage to call her name. Remorse and shame washed over him, but nothing troubled him more than the realization that Dawn wished him dead.

"Remember this, Father: I will come after you. You are just like those rogues who killed my mother." A single tear fell down her cheek, but her eyes were ablaze with hatred. "Don’t ask for my forgiveness because I will never give it to you. I will make sure your life turns miserable."

===================================

Blake stayed in his bedroom as usual. He just took a glass of Rottingbane again this morning, which did not allow him to shift into his beast as per his father’s instructions.

However, from the window he could see there was a little bit of commotion out there. It was in the middle of the night and he seemed to be having a hard time taking his mind off Dawn.

The fact that Alpha Zenith had mated with and marked her continually plagued his thoughts. His mind was a mess. He should have been the one who had received that honor!

But then, Blake overheard a guard outside of his door saying something about Dawn. He immediately opened the door and asked the said guard.

"The Alpha’s daughter, Dawn, is in the pack house right now."

Hearing that, Blake immediately dashed toward the pack house. He cursed his father because he couldn’t shift into his beast and reach Dawn faster than this.

Blake was afraid that he would miss seeing Dawn. What was she doing here? Did she return because things didn’t go well with Alpha Zenith? Did she come looking for him? Did she miss him like he did?

But, to Blake’s annoyance, Emily had stopped him from entering the pack house.

"I know that you want to see Dawn, but I will not allow you to do that."
