Reincarnation Of The Strongest Spirit Master -
Chapter 98 - 98: Gathering A Team
"Why are you going to lead us?" one of the group turned towards Berry, "aren't you the one going to lead us? What's with him being here in the first place?"
"Claine, he is someone entrusted by me and my grandpa!" Just when that dude called Claine expressed his doubts, Berry couldn't help but retort back in such a slightly enraged way.
Berry's attitude was known to all, especially those from her clan, especially those who were close to her age.
She was famous for being kind to weak spirit masters and miserable people like porters and Pride disciples. But there wasn't a single time that she showed such a fierce response, even to the point of asking for her scary and vulnerable grandfather's intervention.
"Berry… He… Isn't he a porter?!!"
"No, I'm a bronze spirit master," William cleared this point directly like this, "after all I'm going to attend the same class as brother Lang once this monster outbreak is over," William added this to clear any doubts, "and I'm here to ask something from all of you."
"At such an hour?!" Lang was also having his doubts, "we are supposed to hide in the safe places inside the clan."
He directed his last words to Berry, and the latter turned to William asking for help. She was just like everyone else here, and didn't know what William intended to do.
"We are going to do something urgent, something to help in saving the clan," William didn't reveal anything, and just said such general words about the plan he had in mind.
And his words left everyone a bit puzzled. The standard protocol the clansmen followed in such times was simple. Those at silver and higher grades were asked to move to the frontlines, get stationed around the walls, and be ready to fend off any incoming enemies.
As for those of bronze and lower grades, alongside common people without spirit power, they were asked to just hide in the well protected bunkers and hideouts here.
"By whose orders are we going to do such a task?" Before William would continue his words, another kid spoke up, yet to be silenced by a sharp gaze from Lang. And he did that as he already could guess what was going to happen next.
"Under my orders… Low grade spirit masters like us aren't that needed at the upcoming battle, right?" Berry said as she wore such a veil of being a boss, something that Lang already expected. Even the air she emitted showed her demeanour, making Lang's corners of mouth twitch slightly.
Berry was acting differently, much different than usual actually. And that was indeed thanks to her rise in power, crossing that hiccup that stopped her for years.
Berry always kept herself away from others even close to her age. And so, Lang didn't know her true personality, like many others in the clan and academy. But from the brief interactions with her in the clan, they all could guess how cute and easy to deal with she was.
In their eyes, Berry wasn't the type to lead anyone around. And that made Lang see in William just a cover up for her desired dream, to do something in the upcoming battle.
Lang inwardly sighed. He mistook everything, thought that Berry wanted to play a role after all these years of living in the shadows. And that was something that was going to end in a big failure in his eyes.
They weren't strong. They could fight a few weak monsters, but that was something that could happen in the forest. This was a monster tide, one that was rumoured to have tens of thousands, even more than a hundred thousand monsters flooding their clan. What role could such weak and young kids do against such a tsunami and high grade battle?
Even if he had his doubts, he decided to keep them for himself. If Berry wanted to do such a thing, then the clan higher ups would be notified and agree on her actions. Lang mistook everything, the same way many others here also thought alike.
"By the way," as everyone got their eyes fixed over Berry, William suddenly asked the latter, "what grade they are?"
"These are bronze and white grade spirit masters… In such a grand battle, bronze grade spirit masters and lower rank are asked to leave the frontline and just hide inside safe places," Berry said, in a tone that told William she was apologising for not bringing a real expert over.
"They will do just fine," unlike what she expected, William moved his eyes around the group while nodding in satisfaction.
He might have expected one or two of them to be at silver grade. But even without any, he wasn't that disappointed at all.
What William needed the most was a big number of spirit masters. And he knew dreaming about getting more than that at such a time was a fantasy.
Such an arrangement of spirit masters made him admire the order in this clan. Asking bronze spirit masters to fight against monster outbreak of category three? That was insane and would be like fetching them to their death.
"So, what are we going to do here?" Lang had to speak up while giving another warning gaze to his mates.
He didn't want any of them to suffer from another burst of anger from Berry. And as he expected, William answered the question instead of Berry.
"I'll explain soon enough," William took the lead of this small group, "but first tell me all you know about the monster tide news," he paused before turning to Berry as he added, "is there a place where the clan specified for forging?"
"Sure, we got a big yard filled with ovens, anvils, and everything needed for forging… But why?" Berry felt puzzled when William shifted the topic away from the upcoming battle, or the reason he asked her to bring these spirit masters here for.
