Chapter 58: The Dark Entity Arrives

Walking down my castle hallway, I was lost in thought. This was a dying realm because it was under siege from dark creatures of a dead realm.

While I only became familiar with these terms recently, I believed the only way to save this planet was to shut down the rift linked to the dead planet.

But what are these dark entities?

How can they be stopped?

There was too much I knew little of, and I needed to find out more—but first of all, I needed to survive.

I exited the castle, hoping to see the corpses of Colonel Adin and Lt. Katrina, but all I saw was shredded flesh with a bloodstain on the floor. They had been ripped apart completely by the blood thorns and the Boneward Guardians.

"I didn’t tell them to keep them intact." I facepalmed and let out a heavy sigh. "There goes my plan of making them a part of my blood thrall army.

Speaking about an army...

My gaze shifted to the far edge of the castle, where towering spires could be seen even though they didn’t belong to the castle. That was the once-collapsed barracks, now completely rebuilt. It was like a second tower but much wider and more spacious.

Looking at this reminded me of the orc army under the leadership of Gatekeeper Lee Bai. The thought of building my personal army of similar or higher quality brought an unnatural hunger.

Hunger for power!

"One step at a time," I reminded myself.

The first thing I needed was to find a way to survive in this world. I couldn’t go back and forth to the human world in search of food.

"Everyone who came here survived through hunting," I said while sitting down on the staircase, pondering on the next step to take.

Should I go outside and hunt?

Or should I have Lord Ravus hunt for me?

I was stuck in this dilemma for a good ten minutes when I abruptly stood up, furious at myself for the sheer display of stupidity.

When was the last time I ate?

I blinked in realization. While I was fed during detention, after I left detention I went straight home, entered this world, killed Blade and Angel before returning to mine. I slept through the rest of the day and was awoken by Pamela’s knocks, and we immediately left for Louisiana.

By the time we got to Louisiana it was already the second day. My fights there ended with a false victory against the orc berserker, which left me worn out, and I slept through the rest of the day till night.

That same night the C.A.T.H was attacked and somehow we survived. I slept through what was left of the night and day, returning here in the afternoon.

This was the third day without food and I didn’t even notice.

[Your Vitality stat doesn’t just reflect your overall Health Points and stamina. Your high Vitality stat reduces the need for food, water, and rest. The higher your Vitality, the longer you can function without sustenance or sleep. Extreme conditions may still affect you, but at a significantly slower rate.]

Ooh?!

I was genuinely shocked by this revelation—but it explained a lot.

Now my Vitality was beyond the peak capabilities of an average human. Doesn’t that mean I can last much longer than a human?

"I need to secure clean water first. That is the most important for now," I concluded.

A human can last weeks without food but barely 3–5 days without water. As long as I have enough water, I can stay here longer and make occasional trips back to the academy cafeteria for some good food.

"Instead of looking for a stream or something, I can just have Mandy buy bottles of water from Earth and bring them here. It would be more convenient and safe." I concluded.

BWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

All of a sudden, a loud horn blew so loud I squinted in discomfort—but this was followed with a notification sound and a few messages.

[New Mission Acquired: Gaining the Recognition of the People of Velenhorst]

[The Lord’s Horn has been blown, signalling the appearance of a dark beast! The Empire is skeptical about the condition of Lord Ravus after the fall of his castle. That is why none dared to approach for a while now. This is your chance to make your first appearance and win their hearts over!]

Buzz!

I felt a strong burning pain in my chest while the clanking sounds of chains rang in my head repeatedly. It reminded me of the feeling I had when I took over the throne of this castle.

I staggered back and sat down, holding my chest tightly in my arms as I read through the system messages with great effort.

The system seemed more desperate for my victory than it should, based on the tone of its messages. My frown had deepened since I didn’t expect to encounter a dark beast here. But thinking about it, it had been around 5–6 days on Earth since I took over this territory—which was basically 5–6 months since I conquered this place and made it mine.

It should be more suspicious if no threat appeared for too long.

"But why does it hurt?" I winced. "This is not the first time my territory has been invaded. Why is it different this time?"

[Because none of those intruders were a threat to your throne. This one is different.]

The system’s response was sharp and direct. Slowly, the pain subsided to a bearable level. The burning feeling was ever present, but with my high Vitality it was nothing more than an annoying itch.

"Very well..." I said and snapped my fingers, causing a dark rift back to my dormitory to appear beside me.

I walked through the rift and a few minutes later, I returned to this world—dressed in a black shirt and trousers which matched my black boots. I wore my black gloves, which were used to control Rai’ki, while my trusty weapons were strapped to my waist and everything was hidden under my black leather trench coat.

[Don’t you think you are wearing too much for a battle?] the system asked.

"Don’t you think you are talking too much recently?" I retorted, while pulling out a black facemask from my pocket and putting it on.

Snap!

[Door Activated]

A spatial gate tore open in front and I stepped in, appearing in the master bedroom where Lord Ravus was kneeling with his beloved in his hands.

I grabbed the towering figure of Maria and pulled her off him, tossing her to the bed like the trash she was. If it wasn’t for my need for Lord Ravus’s loyalty when I’m finally able to bring him back to life fully, I would have gotten rid of her completely.

[Door Skill Activated]

This time, the gate opened beneath Lord Ravus and his stone figure fell in. Not saying a word, I turned around and walked through the gate I came from, returning to the front yard of the castle.

"Bring me six Boneward Guardians!" I ordered.

[-100 HP]

[Health Points: 10/130]

Buzz!

My body trembled as I felt the vitality in me being drained by an invisible force.

[WARNING! HOST’S HEALTH POINTS IS AT A DANGEROUS THRESHOLD!] the system’s warnings rang loud in my head—but I paid no heed to it.

If I wanted to win, I needed to do what was necessary, and currently these gargoyles were the strongest beings within my control.

Huff!

My breathing was laborious, and I looked beneath my coat to see my skin was deadly pale.

I shifted my gaze to the eyes of the Boneward Guardians, burning bright with crimson light, while crimson cracks spread across their bodies.

Swoosh!

All six shot down with human agility, landing roughly in front of me before bowing in unison.

"Good..." I muttered.

[What are you trying to do?!]

The system sounded more human in these turbulent times, which I found amusing. Was that mechanical tone all a lie?

Was it just a divine being disguising as a mechanical being just to spy on my activities without raising suspicion?

Regardless of what the answer was, I ignored it.

[Angel Skill Activated!]

Skrrrrr!

My trench coat tore from behind as a pair of black angelic wings sprouted, spreading wide and far.

I may have low health now, but my Berserk skill would let me recover 30 Health Points every 3 seconds. From there, I could recover the health lost and also bring in Lord Ravus into the battlefield as my blood thrall.

My plan was not to fight a prolonged battle, but a short and decisive one.

"Open the gates!" I ordered, and the whole base began trembling.

I watched as a whole batch of blood thorns peeled away from the section of the wall in front of me, revealing a massive towering black gate with bat-shaped door knobs which I never noticed before.

Buzz!

Slowly, the gates began pushing open, causing the entire mountain to tremble violently.

"I would like to see who dares step foot into the territory of this God!" I snarled viciously.

Without hesitation, I leaped into the air—and with one flap of my wings, I soared forward with six massive stone gargoyles chasing after their master!
