Reincarnated To Evolve My Bee Empire -
Chapter 341 - 341: Lucky draw
〔JACKPOT—LUCKY DRAW! In this pick, you gain three tiers of a gene instead of one! This is a gift from the God of Humanity. For improving strength, you have a choice of next genes: 'Horns III', 'Fire Breathing III', and 'Electrical Charge I->IV'.〕
〔Horns III: gives large multipurpose horns.〕
〔Fire Breathing III: allows spitting flammable liquid to a medium distance and in larger amounts.〕
〔Electrical Charge I->IV: increases voltage of the electrical discharge.〕
I gasped.
"This isn't bad luck at all! This is great luck, actually! How… I didn't think this was possible! Three tiers by the price of one attribute point? Just insane!"
"I didn't foresee this!" Undecided exclaimed with a jolt. "Is that… good? I mean, the genes—not the prophecy. The prophecy was all wrong!"
She huddled on herself and closed her eyes, probably going deep into the visions. The other Oracle in the room, Undecided's student-slash-assistant hovered over her with a worried expression.
I frowned and messaged Attendant Helping-Hands, asking her to get Undecided some calming tea.
"This doesn't matter, Undecided," I assured her. "Please, rest and just observe for now."
She opened her eyes and nodded, still looking sad. Soon, an Attendant Bee flitted in and offered her a fresh cup of tea.
I turned back to the Council and read aloud the genes. Before I finished reading all the descriptions, I saw Bloodhero was almost itching to speak all this time. I didn't need to read her thoughts to guess what she wanted to say.
"You are going to ask me to buy 'fire breathing'," I said.
She nodded, then stared at me earnestly and expectantly. In the background, the other Advisers were communicating in telepathic messages.
"The Council supports this decision unanimously," Ambrosia declared a moment later.
I huffed.
"Yeah, I'm going to—no need to ask. It's an obvious choice. Fire-breathers are some of the best soldiers we have! And…" I grinned. "Breathing fire will be so damn cool."
Interestingly enough, the system showed that the "Fire Breathing" gene was a prerequisite for the "Pyrokinesis" gene, and the "Electric Charge" gene was a prerequisite for the "Electrokinesis" gene… But I assumed that other prerequisites of these genes are too astronomical for bees to evolve them—or they were just incredibly rare.
Either way, I bought the gene and was immediately addressed by the system.
<To complete the 'Fire Breathing III' gene acquisition, pick a location in which the fuel-generating organ will be located. You can't change this decision later. Note! This organ will be inactive unless you add the 'Fire Breathing' gene to your morphotype.>
Oh, that again. Too bad my chest was already taken by the electrical organ… Where else had I the place?
This world's bees had a lot of vital organs in their tails, like livers and even part of the gut (knowledge brought to us by the hard work of Tabletina and her Physicians who dissected some dead bodies).
But there were still a lot of necessary things stuffed in the torso of a bee, too. Half of it consisted of muscles necessary to beat our wings fast and hard enough to fly.
'What about my tail?' I asked.
<This area is available. Do you confirm this choice, user?>
'Wait, system, what will be the upsides and downsides of this location?'
<Since this area is far removed from your throat, there will be a delay before your flame-breathing attacks, user. But because there's a lot of space available, your maximum flame charge will be larger.>
'Sounds fair. I confirm the location.'
<Understood. The acquisition of the 'Fire Breathing III' gene is complete.>
I waited for the gene to affect me, but didn't feel anything. Of course, since the gene was inactive. But not for long—*of course* I planned on adding this gene to my personal morphotype!
And now I had the last attribute point remaining.
"Alright. I think we lack good defense genes. The powerful other genes we have only show this more clearly! Our enemies evolve more potent venoms, acid, fire—we must start gathering resistances against it all," I said. "Which means upgrading defense. I feel like the pool of defense genes is so small, I'm bound to get at least one resistance gene from it."
〔For improving defense, you have a choice of next genes: '', 'Fire Breathing III', and 'Electrical Charge I->IV'.〕
〔Radiation Resistance I: increases tolerable radiation amount and decreases risks of radiation sickness by 20%.〕
〔Camouflage I: reduces chances of being spotted by sight and smell.〕
〔Protective Scales: covers skin with thin scales that improve base defense by 5% and heat resistance by 10%.〕
I stared at the list, feeling sorry that I spoke at all. Clearly, I had jinxed myself.
Suddenly, Amby reached out and rubbed my shoulder in a soothing manner.
"Even the worst genes at least increase our gene points and the power of our morphotyped daughters and yours, Nectus. Don't be so despairing. Despair is something you yourself always fought against."
I perked up, only to swivel around and stare at Amby incredulously.
"But you don't even know what I've got! I didn't spell it out yet!"
"I don't need to know, I can just look at your face." My bee-wife jabbed me between the eyebrows. "This wrinkle!"
"Ouch! Claws!"
Amby unhurriedly removed her hand, and I couldn't tell if she paid my protest any mind.
But now I was thoroughly distracted from despair indeed. On the other side of the table, Worriesgone smiled brightly at me.
"Now your face looks much better, Father. So what *are* those bad genes?"
I sighed.
"Mostly useless stuff."
The discussion that followed next was pretty short. In the end, the protective scales won. Although it wasn't a tiered gene, and the bonus it gave was small, a stats increase was a stats increase.
Even if it came with a change of looks.
At least, it didn't have to affect *me*, unless I chose to keep it in my personal morphotype! But… would I?
It was time to decide.
