Chapter 49: 3 - A new, incredibile power

«Take... this!» Sasha’s scythe rips through the air with the force and roar of thunder, descending from above in a powerful arc toward Kajetan. Despite the blue energy sword extending from his arm, Kajetan chooses to evade the attack with a swift lateral dash rather than blocking and countering.

Sasha’s blade inevitably strikes the ground, triggering a devastating explosion—lightning and scarlet bolts erupt, carving a deep crater at the point of impact. A dense cloud of dust rises, spreading through the confined air of the energy field in which they are fighting—a barrier created by Daphne, identical in nature to the one used for familiar battles.

Daphne, Gerard, Dorje, and I stand outside the barrier, silently observing the clash—though keeping up with their movements requires considerable effort. Sasha and Kajetan move at a speed that pushes the limits of our perception, and I am certain they are not even fighting at full strength yet.

Sasha sweeps her scythe through the air in a wide arc—seemingly striking at nothing. But the air disturbed by her blade crackles with energy, black clouds gathering like a controlled storm shaped into a crescent moon. In an instant, red electric beams burst forth, surging toward her opponent.

Just as Levreshka’s whip allows her to animate her terrifying puppets, Sasha’s scythe appears to grant her control over the electricity naturally present in the atmosphere. A power that fits her sadistic nature all too well... and not by chance. The Sanguis magic within each vampire is as unique as their physical traits, because—just like somatic differences are dictated by DNA—so too is the nature of their magic. No two vampires will ever share identical Sanguis magic, just as no two humans possess the same Vis magic. In other words, each vampire can summon their own exclusive weapon through Telum. And I, having assimilated Ayra’s Sanguis energy, can materialize exactly her same sword.

I won’t deny feeling a certain envy toward Sasha—a scythe capable of generating lightning is probably every fantasy lover’s dream. But the only way to obtain it would be to forge a BindingRitual with her and absorb her Sanguis energy. A possibility that is absolutely out of the question!

Once again, Kajetan evades another of Sasha’s attacks, but this time he doesn’t come out completely unscathed. The electric beam grazes him at point-blank range, sending a powerful shock coursing through his body.

energy does Kajetan manage to dispel the electricity surging through him, mitigating the paralyzing effects of Sasha’s magic. However, his body is in rough shape—his veins darkened from the shocks, his skin marred by numerous superficial burns—while Sasha, on the other hand, remains completely unharmed and still at the peak of her strength.

Despite the seemingly dire situation—Sasha has dominated the fight from the start, landing multiple attacks without taking a single hit—Daphne’s expression remains completely untroubled. She watches her familiar with a pleased smile, showing not the slightest hint of concern.

She must be well aware of Kajetan’s full potential. Could her confidence stem from knowing that he has yet to reveal his true strength? For his sake, I hope so—and that he does it soon—because at this rate, it’s only a matter of time before Sasha completely overwhelms him.

«Ugh... is this really the full power of the strongest familiar of this era...?» Sasha mutters, sighing in disappointment. «My big sister must be even weaker than I thought if she kept losing to you. Well, all the better—it means I’ll save my energy for tonight. Just imagining finally saying goodbye to my virginity with Daphne’s familiar—who happens to be ranked number one—drives me absolutely wild,» she adds, licking her upper lip with a mischievous smirk.

«Oh, so you’ve finally decided to throw in the towel. A wise choice,» Sasha remarks. Then, a smile slowly spreads across her face. «No... you’re not surrendering, are you? Until now, you’ve only been studying my abilities—that’s why you’ve limited yourself to dodging and defending. I’d say it’s about time we got serious!»

Sanguis energy erupts from Sasha with terrifying intensity—the ground cracks beneath her feet as countless electric discharges swirl around her scythe. «Prepare yourself, human—I’m coming!»

A lightning-fast movement, almost instantaneous, and Sasha is now in front of Kajetan – the scythe raised, ready to strike down on her opponent once again, when...

«What the...?!» Sasha’s face twists in astonishment. Kajetan has vanished right before her eyes, disappearing an instant before her blade could strike. He must have moved at a speed so extreme that even Sasha’s eyes couldn’t track him—let alone mine or those of the other familiars.

A moment later, Kajetan is behind her—but now, his body radiates an energy unlike anything seen before. It is not the usual bright blue Vis, but something more intense, more luminous—an azure, almost white.

Sasha whirls around, but before she can even grasp what’s happening, a powerful kick slams into her side. The impact sends her flying, crashing violently against the very edge of the barrier erected by Daphne.

Shock and disbelief grip all of us—including Sasha.

«What the fuck is this...?!» Sasha snarls through gritted teeth, frustration and pain evident in her voice. She forces herself back to her feet, using the shaft of her scythe for support.

I’m wondering the same thing...

Judging by the incredulous looks on Dorje and Gerard’s faces, it seems even they have never seen or heard of this intense, luminous azure energy swirling around Kajetan. It no longer resembles the usual veil of blue energy that surrounds him, but instead rages like a true firestorm—wild and uncontrollable. He’s likely unable to fully control it yet, making it chaotic and volatile, much like a familiar still new to Vis energy. I’m sure Clotilde knows exactly what this is—that famous third step in Vis energy control she briefly mentioned but never elaborated on, deeming it a waste of time for someone as weak as me—but unfortunately, she’s not here to explain it to us.

Once again, Kajetan disappears, leaving behind a trail of azure flames.

Before Sasha can even finish casting the Obice spell, Kajetan’s fist drives into her stomach—a torrent of blood bursts from her mouth—then, another explosion of lightning. In that split second, the scarlet electric currents surge from Sasha’s scythe into Kajetan’s body, using the vampire as a conduit.

Kajetan is hurled backward with force but manages to land on his feet, while Sasha once again clings desperately to her weapon to keep from collapsing.

Kajetan launches a new assault, immediately propelling himself at his opponent the moment his feet touch the ground.

He has no intention of giving her a single moment of respite. That new, mysterious power unleashed by Daphne’s familiar probably has a limited duration or drains excessive energy due to his poor control—or perhaps both. It’s clear, then, that Kajetan is trying to end the fight as quickly as possible, even though it’s supposed to be a friendly match—though, given what’s at stake, there’s little friendly about it.

Kajetan’s movements are noticeably slower this time—I can even, if only for a moment, track them. I don’t know if it’s the side effects of those azure flames or the electric attack he just endured, but either way, Sasha is not caught off guard this time. Her scythe spins rapidly, generating a disc of electricity in midair, from which an electric wave erupts in all directions—an offensive Kajetan can’t avoid. But it’s not enough to stop him. By further detonating his azure energy, he not only withstands the impact but advances—agonizing screams of pain escaping him—until he finally reaches Sasha.

With one final, powerful punch to the face, Kajetan hurls her to the ground—the scythe vanishing in a cloud of red energy, along with the electric field it had generated. But at that moment, it’s not only Sasha who collapses to the ground, powerless; Kajetan himself collapses as well—his body no longer emitting any kind of energy, neither the light blue nor the usual blue Vis energy.

The bodies of the two fighters now lie sprawled on the ground, a few meters apart. Kajetan’s body is completely burned, to the point where he no longer feels any pain, while Sasha’s lies in a pool of blood, constantly flowing from her nose and mouth.

No matter how hard they struggle, neither of them can stand up anymore.

«Oh my, looks like this is a real tie,» Daphne observes, spreading her arms in astonishment.

«Knocked out by a human, what a humiliation...» Sasha mutters weakly, her words choked by blood. «At this point... we can make a deal... you have sex with me tonight... and I’ll be your training partner for the whole week... a mutually beneficial arrangement, don’t you think...?»

«Forget it...» Kajetan pants, his words accompanied by the smoke of internal burns. «You’re not strong enough to be my training partner...»

«You insolent bastard...!» Sasha growls weakly before losing consciousness, and Kajetan follows her right after.
