Chapter 210: My dream
Chapter 210: My dream
"Death. I could see it right in front of me, and my biggest regret was I didn’t reach the S rank. My dream."
She didn’t sit—never did when she was like this, her body a live wire, trembling not with fear but with the weight of failure.
Her fists clenched, her shoulders tense, electricity crackling faintly along her knuckles.
"I had to be pulled out at the last second," she said, her voice tight, bitter. "My supervisor saved me. I should’ve died."
She wasn’t crying—Liss didn’t cry.
She just stood there, her body a coiled spring, her blue eyes burning with frustration, her breath uneven.
Kael crossed the room, careful, stopping a step away.
"You didn’t die. That’s what matters."
"Is it?" she snapped, her voice breaking, her gaze locking on his.
"Because surviving sure as hell doesn’t feel like it means anything anymore."
"You’re not weak," he said, his tone firm, unyielding.
"Then why can’t I get stronger?" Her shout echoed, raw, desperate, her hands unclenching to grip her arms, nails digging into her skin.
Kael didn’t flinch, didn’t offer platitudes.
He never did with her.
"Let me help," he said instead, his voice low, steady, a promise.
"How?" she shot back, her eyes narrowing, a spark of defiance flaring. "Don’t you dare say it’s with your powers. If you try to numb me with that empath touch, I swear, I’ll break your wrist."
He smiled faintly, a rare lightness breaking through. "No resonance. I promise."
"Then how?" Her voice was a challenge, her body leaning toward him, close enough for him to feel the faint heat of her skin, the crackle of static in the air.
Kael met her gaze, his voice calm but resolute.
"You’re not lacking technique, Liss. Not even close. Your combat skills are good, and your awareness is also top notch. What you need—what separates A-Class from S-Class—is power. Raw, overwhelming force."
She rolled her eyes, a bitter laugh escaping her. "Tell me something I don’t know, genius."
He nodded, undeterred, stepping closer, the space between them shrinking, charged. "Then help me, and I’ll help you."
"Help you how?" Her tone softened, curiosity flickering in her blue eyes, her arms uncrossing, her posture easing slightly.
"I want you to play the antagonist for the Haven," Kael said, his voice steady, his eyes locked on hers.
Liss blinked, her brows furrowing. "Come again?"
"I want you to be the wall Freya and Rhea have to climb. The rival. The reason they push past their limits."
She tilted her head, her tangled hair brushing her shoulder, her lips parting slightly. "They already know I’m stronger."
"Not enough," he said, his voice firm, urgent. "I want them to see you and burn with the need to catch up. I want you to taunt them, provoke them, push them—until they don’t care about beating you anymore. Until the day, they fight not for ego, but for what heroes are meant to be."
Liss went quiet, her eyes searching his, taking in his words.
Her fingers loosened, her expression steadying, the storm in her chest calming, if only for a moment.
The wrecked apartment seemed to fade, the world narrowing to the space between them, heavy with trust, with possibility.
"That’s... idealistic," she said finally, a faint smirk tugging at her lips. "Dreamy. Like some bad redemption movie."
Kael’s smile widened, a rare warmth in his bruised face. "Is that a no?"
She chuckled, the sound low, genuine, her body relaxing, her bare shoulders catching the light. "It’s a maybe. But only if you can actually make me stronger."
"Oh, that part’s guaranteed," Kael said, stepping closer, his voice low, confident, the air between them crackling with unspoken promise.
_____________
Liss stood in the center of her wrecked apartment, the remnants of shattered furniture and cracked walls a silent testament to the chaos that had passed.
Her blonde hair hung loose, framing a face no longer glowing with electric power—just tired, her blue eyes dulled but watchful, waiting for Kael’s lead.
Kael stepped closer.
"Take your top off," he said, his voice steady but soft.
Liss didn’t hesitate.
In one fluid motion, she tugged her tank top over her head, her hair spilling free, catching the light like spun gold.
Without pause, she unclasped her bra, letting it fall to the floor, her movements casual but deliberate, a challenge in her posture.
Kael blinked, caught off guard, his gaze flickering to her bare chest before snapping back to her face. "I meant just the top..."
"Too late," Liss said, her tone flat but laced with a teasing edge.
She crossed her arms briefly, then dropped them, standing unashamed in the warm light.
"If you’re pulling some massage wizardry to fix my nervous system or whatever, might as well give you the full canvas."
Her breasts gleamed in the amber glow—firm, high, with a natural softness that contrasted her lean, muscled frame.
Her nipples, a soft pink flush against her pale skin, tightened faintly in the cool air.
Even exhausted, Liss was a study in strength and allure, her body taut from relentless training, yet her chest held a curve that drew Kael’s eye, a fleeting distraction he fought to ignore.
"Don’t guess what I am about to do," he said, his voice dipping slightly, betraying a hint of warmth. "Just sit."
Liss rolled her eyes, a smirk tugging at her lips, and sank to her knees on the floor, her spine straight, her posture poised despite her fatigue.
Kael knelt behind her, his breath steadying as he centered himself, his hands hovering over her bare back, the air between them crackling with unspoken tension.
His palms settled lightly on her skin, warm and soft, and he closed his eyes, activating his empathetic resonance through touch.
Her heartbeat pulsed under his fingers—fast, controlled, a rhythm of tension held in check.
Her breathing was shallow, chest-tight, her shoulders knotted with strain, her nervous system humming like a storm caged beneath her skin.
Kael sank deeper, his resonance attuning to her body’s subtle language.
