Chapter 75: Moonlight forest I
Shennong stood in the center of the room, his silhouette glowing faintly in the dim light as he opened his hand.
"Release the Cores," he declared, his voice calm but heavy with importance.
A moment later, dozens of deep blue crystalline orbs fell from above, clattering gently onto the stone floor in front of Yenissa, Rilith, Velara, and Romina. They sparkled like stars captured in glass. The four women blinked, wide-eyed, clearly confused.
Rilith tilted her head. "What... are these?"
"They look beautiful," Romina whispered, kneeling to observe one. "But... they feel strange."
Velara narrowed her eyes, gently prodding one with the tip of her boot. "They look harmless."
Yenissa, folding her arms, furrowed her brows. "I’ve never seen anything like this. Shennong, what are these?"
Shennong stepped forward, eyes fixed on the orbs.
"These are the creatures that attacked me," he explained gravely. "Each one of these cores... belongs to one of those creatures. I call them Cores."
Romina recoiled slightly. "These attacked you?"
Shennong nodded. "Yes. They’re not what they seem. These cores hold two forms: the first is a slime-like blob. Harmless-looking, almost adorable. But the second..."
He paused, raising one of the glowing Lunamarite orbs and holding it up. The light danced in his eyes as he continued, "The second form is a guardian golem. Each core has one—born of the specific Lunamarite biome it comes from. Strong. Brutal. Intelligent in its own way. They are more dangerous than anything we fought until now."
Yenissa’s jaw dropped. "No way... just one of these injured you that badly?"
Shennong chuckled grimly. "Only one, yes. That’s why this matters. These things—these creatures—are still a mystery to me. Their power... I underestimated it just because I thought we were powerful enough tobeat anything, but I learnt an important lesson thanks to them. We are still ants in this massive world."
The room fell silent, the weight of his words sinking in.
"But," he continued, standing tall, "I am still going to create that Moonlight forest I spoke about and Lunamarite is the best ingredient for that.. I believe it’s the right step.."
Velara glanced at him with concern. "Does that mean you’re going to mine again?"
Shennong shook his head. "Not for a while. I have enough Lunamarite to completely bury this place, and I’ll be busy building the dungeon. Trust me—you’re all going to be busy too. I have plans for each of you. Yenissa, Romina, Rilith, Velara—you’re all part of what comes next."
He smirked as they exchanged glances, a mix of excitement and confusion.
A week passed. Shennong worked like a man possessed.
With his golden pickaxe slung over his shoulder and a grappling hook at his side, he dug, climbed, and placed blocks with mechanical precision. Deep blue Lunamarite bricks—each shimmering like a piece of the night sky—clicked into place one after another. The dull thud of stone against stone echoed through the vast expanse of the dungeon floor.
The structure began to take form—a biome, no longer barren but bursting with life and beauty of the vision Shennong imagined.
The dungeon floor, twice the size of Percival Barony, was transformed.
Meanwhile, Rilith and Velara scoured the world, capturing animals and creatures—foxes with crystalline hard fur, glowing butterflies, common goblin, even whispering trees. They placed them carefully, populating the dungeon as if it were a living, breathing world.
But none of them saw what Shennong was working on, as they weren’t allowed to enter until he completed the entire area—he wanted to keep it a surprise.
"It’s not ready," he said every time they asked. "You’ll know when it is."
And just like that, time passed slowly until the fateful day when Shennong asked Yenissa to bring someone special to the main room.
The room was quiet. A soft, cozy atmosphere filled the space, with warm undying torches casting long shadows. Yenissa and Lady Cassandra sat on the edge of the large bed Shennong made for Yenissa with flowers and beautiful decorations on it, chatting like old friends.
"I never thought I could talk and laugh like this with a demon," Cassandra admitted, smiling as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
Yenissa smiled in return. "I never thought I’d be this close with a human. But, like Shennong always says—conflict between our races isn’t inherently bad. We just don’t have to hate each other."
Cassandra nodded thoughtfully. "We do have one thing in common, after all."
They looked at each other and said together, "Shennong."
"But it’s amazing to think he built something like this beneath our barony! As a leader, I should be worried—but as his woman, I can’t help but feel proud of my amazing man," Cassandra muttered, gazing at the main room with a look of wonder in her eyes.
Yenissa just smiled at her words, feeling proud about her boy.
A moment of silence passed before Yenissa’s eyes gleamed mischievously.
"So," she asked casually, "how’s your sex life with Shennong going? Can you satisfy him?"
Cassandra choked on her spit. "Wh-what kind of question is that?!"
Yenissa chuckled, waving her hand. "Come on, you’re with him now, right? I mean, I can’t always do it. My succubus trait is too intense—one time, I nearly killed the poor boy."
"You’re... like his mother though, aren’t you?" Cassandra asked, raising a brow.
Yenissa shrugged. "Yes. I raised him. But like I said—your human ’normal’ isn’t mine. I don’t care, and neither does he. If I was a human I would absolutely ruin that boy with my pussy."
Cassandra sighed, cheeks flushing red. "I... enjoy my time with him a lot. But I worry. I don’t know if my body is enough. He’s... not exactly normal. He can go for ages and I honestly can’t keep up with him."
Yenissa smirked. "I know so let me help with that."
She was about to make a wild suggestion to Cassandra, but just then, the heavy iron door to the dungeon creaked open with a deep groan. A figure stepped out, wiping sweat from his brow.
Shennong stood before them, wearing his arm-cut vest soaked through, golden pickaxe resting across his shoulder. His body was covered in dust and grime, but his smile was wide and full of excitement.
"It’s time," he said, voice warm. "Come on. I want to show you."
The women stood up, their curiosity peaking.
As they followed him through the dim corridor, lit by lanterns fixed into the walls, their footsteps echoed together in rhythm.
Yenissa walked beside Cassandra, her tone softer now. "He’s changed, hasn’t he? He is lot tall and lot muscular now."
Cassandra smiled. "Yes. But I also adore how he always chases his dreams."
Yenissa looked ahead at Shennong’s broad back, golden pickaxe gleaming under the lights. "And we get to chase them with him."
With those words, they kept walking, engaging in small talk, while Shennong assured them that this was just a temporary route. He promised to close it later, as it exposed them to the risk of being discovered by adventurers. Instead, he mentioned several alternate routes he had already planned for each dungeon floor he intended to create.
The silence was thick as the group approached the edge of the newly opened dungeon. A soft hum echoed from the small opening, and a pale, almost ethereal light seeped through the cracks like morning dew slipping into the earth.
They walked slowly—Cassandra at the front, flanked by Yenissa and Romina, with Rilith and Velara bringing up the rear. The closer they came, the more the light took on a defined hue—a gentle blue shimmer that clung to their boots and fingertips like stardust.
And then, the opening widened.
The air changed immediately.
It was like stepping into another world.
Soft wind rustled through deep blue-leafed trees, and a calming scent—somewhere between mint and moonflowers—tickled their noses. The floor beneath them wasn’t stone or soil but some silky, moss-like fabric that shimmered with every step.
Romina blinked. "Is this... a forest?"
"No," Yenissa whispered, eyes wide in awe. "It’s not jsut a forest. It is the greatest forest that will ever exist."
The dungeon’s first floor was vast. Trees towered above, their trunks smooth like glass and glowing faintly with pale lights spiraling upward. The sky was not truly a sky, but an illusion of Lunamarite planted on the ceiling so perfectly it felt endless.
Tiny birds with translucent feathers fluttered from tree to tree, trailing blue glows behind them. A herd of deer with crystal-like antlers leapt in the distance. Squirrels the color of clouds peeked down from branches, watching silently.
Even the shadows glimmered.
Shennong stepped forward dramatically, with one arm extended toward the shimmering horizon, he called out:
"Welcome! You now walk within the Moonlight Forest! The first of my dungeon’s trials!"
Romina gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as she turned slowly in place, taking it all in. "This is... divine. How did you—?"
Shennong gave her a sly grin.
Velara knelt and ran her fingers over the mossy floor, watching how it shimmered and shifted under her touch like living velvet. "It’s beautiful... but there’s magic beneath this, isn’t there? I can feel it humming."
Shennong nodded. "Good instinct. The forest isn’t just for show. Every tree, every breath of wind, every sound—it’s tied to the core network. The dungeon reacts. Learns. Adjusts."
Rilith raised a brow. "Adjusts how?"
"It is the special effect of the Lunamarite mineral. It adjusts everything within its premises and grants them special qualities—just like this forest. All of this fauna and flora were things you collected, and the Lunamarite walls altered their life qualities, turning them into what you see now. Whether it’s an improvement or a degradation, we have yet to see. But for now... let’s go and witness our hard work," Shennong muttered with a smile, which Yenissa quickly returned, while Cassandra remained in pure awe as she realized her man was not ordinary.
