Chapter 81: Chapter81-Artist

"Ahem... I’ll need to discuss this matter with the Treasury Administrator."

The Human Emperor gave a dry cough, trying to mask his disbelief, and immediately pulled out his communicator to contact the administrator of the Human Treasury.

"How many Abyssal Cores do we have in the treasury right now? Do we have... one hundred thousand?"

On the other end of the line, the Treasury Administrator froze.

What?

Why was His Majesty the Human Emperor contacting him this late at night? And asking for such an astronomical number of Abyssal Cores?

Could it be... that he was planning to activate some apocalyptic-level magic array?

"Your Majesty, forgive my boldness," the administrator asked cautiously, "but may I ask... why do you require so many Abyssal Cores?"

"Don’t ask. Just answer," the Human Emperor said briskly, his voice brooking no argument.

He had always been direct in his ways—he didn’t need to explain himself to anyone, even someone as critical as the keeper of the nation’s wealth.

The administrator’s tone instantly became serious. Without further questions, he got straight to the point.

"Your Majesty, after checking the inventory just now, we currently have a little over fifty thousand Abyssal Cores in storage."

Only fifty thousand? That was the entire accumulation of the human treasury?

And Daniel had just casually requested one hundred thousand!

The Human Emperor’s lips twitched involuntarily. He glanced sideways at Daniel and couldn’t help but ask,

"King of the North... did you accept an SSS-tier Star Upgrade Quest?"

Daniel didn’t intend to hide anything. He simply nodded.

The Human Emperor’s brows furrowed even deeper.

He himself possessed an SSS-tier talent and had completed a Star Upgrade Quest before. But even then, the requirements weren’t nearly this excessive.

Daniel, for his part, gave a helpless smile.

There was no use explaining it. Certainly not the part where, just before he accepted his third-stage Star Upgrade Quest, the system had unexpectedly presented him with an SSS+ difficulty option.

Naturally, Daniel had chosen the more difficult route.

With greater difficulty came better rewards. That was the logic.

But even he hadn’t expected that one of the mission’s requirements would be something as outrageous as 100,000 Abyssal Cores.

Seeing that Daniel was completely serious, the Human Emperor let out a heavy sigh.

"King of the North, the Human Treasury simply doesn’t possess that many Abyssal Cores," he said. "You know as well as I do how rare and difficult they are to obtain. Especially with the recent instability in the Abyss, our exploration efforts have dropped drastically, and as a result, so has our core output."

Daniel nodded. He had never expected the Human Emperor to provide everything.

But now that he was officially a king of the human race, he wouldn’t hesitate to claim the benefits he deserved.

"I understand, Your Majesty. I’ll find a way to secure the Abyssal Cores on my own," Daniel replied calmly. "But there are a few other materials I need as well."

He handed the Human Emperor a detailed materials list.

The Human Emperor accepted it and gave it a cursory glance—only for his eyes to widen almost immediately.

His mouth twitched uncontrollably.

Wait, what is this nonsense?!

Twenty thousand Dragonkin Reverse Scales? Did Daniel even know how precious those were?

For a Dragonkin, the reverse scale was more sacred than life itself. Asking for even one was considered a declaration of blood feud. And Daniel wanted twenty thousand?

Then there were all kinds of obscure souls—fragments, twisted echoes, and even one labeled "laughing spirit of a saint."

What was he collecting these for? Some forbidden ritual?

And wait—was that... Life Essence Liquid?

Even the Human Emperor himself didn’t have access to much of that! He stared at the list, his scalp tingling. Each item on it was an artifact or a priceless resource. Just a single item from the list could be auctioned for the entire fortune of a duke or general.

And Daniel was still only a One-Star Awakener!

Why in the world did someone at that level need materials fit for divine warfare?

Hold on...

The Human Emperor’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Was he thinking about this all wrong?

What if... these materials weren’t for Daniel himself?

What if they were for the god behind him?

After all, all of Daniel’s extraordinary powers came from divine gifts. If the god had entrusted him with certain tasks, then it made sense that Daniel would need materials of this caliber to fulfill those missions.

Realizing this, the Human Emperor sighed deeply.

"I understand now. Every gift comes with its price."

"I’ll do what I can to help you gather these materials. But they’re too rare—even I won’t be able to acquire all of them."

"You know my position—while I hold great power, I cannot afford to be seen showing overt favoritism. Still, based on your current merits, I should be able to secure a portion of them for you."

He paused and added, "Is there anything on this list that you need more urgently than the rest?"

Daniel nodded appreciatively. Then, taking a pen from the table, he marked several of the items with stars, indicating their priority.

The Human Emperor gave a firm nod.

"Understood. Go take care of your business. I’ll begin mobilizing efforts to gather what I can for you."

"Let’s reconvene here in ten minutes."

Without delay, Daniel activated his ability—and vanished instantly from the room.

The Human Emperor’s pupils contracted slightly.

That ability... he couldn’t see through it at all.

How had Daniel done it?

Even with all his experience, even at his level of power, he couldn’t pierce the veil of Daniel’s technique.

Could it really be, as the rumors on the information networks suggested, that Daniel had mastered spatial movement?

But... that was absurd!

He was only a One-Star Awakener! How could he possibly grasp the mysteries of space?

Unless... it was another divine gift?

If so, then that god was being incredibly generous.

Multiracial Commerce League Headquarters

Daniel arrived without fanfare and headed straight to the exchange terminals.

He sold off everything in his backpack that he no longer needed—random loot, redundant equipment, obsolete materials—and used the funds to purchase several critical items from his quest list.

After several rounds of transactions, Daniel’s account balance soared into the tens of billions.

With this liquidity, his goal was clear: he needed to start assembling the formulas and materials for more God Rank Skills.

Meanwhile, back in Castle Mington, the Human Emperor did not depart.

Instead, he walked the perimeter, passing by several entrances to underground labyrinths marked as Hell Difficulty Zones.

He stopped at a towering Dragon Glass Stele, staring up at the rankings and records etched upon it.

In silence, he reflected on his own prime.

There had been a time when he too was hailed as an era’s suppressing force. A time when even the boldest enemies hesitated to challenge him.

But time was merciless.

Even legends eventually faded.

Yet even in his prime, he had never caused the kind of uproar Daniel was stirring now.

Just then, the Human Emperor’s communicator buzzed.

A voice came through, tense and urgent.

"Your Majesty, we’ve uncovered some preliminary clues regarding the destruction of Terra Fortress."

"There appears to have been some unknown force involved in the devastation—an energy source that might be connected to a god."

"I suspect that the culprit utilized the flesh of a god to unleash such overwhelming power."

"Our most recent investigation points in a strange direction..."

The voice paused, then added grimly:

"All evidence seems to lead back... to those lunatics who called themselves the Artists—the ones from five hundred years ago."
