Chapter 59: Chapter59-Ultimate Water Elemental
Just as Daniel was about to set aside the [Gnome Communicator], a fresh breaking news headline suddenly popped up in the center of the screen.
"The Millennium Apocalypse Draws Near—What Form Will It Take This Time?"
"Terra Fortress Loses Contact—Could This Be Tied to the Coming Apocalypse?"
...
There were plenty of similar headlines appearing one after another.
But this time, Daniel’s expression grew noticeably more solemn.
For years now, he had been quietly investigating the origin of the Blood Moon Incident. And the deeper he dug, the more he became convinced that the tragic fall of the Crossbridge Kingdom, which began with the emergence of a blood moon and ended in utter annihilation, might have been the first sign of the incoming Millennium Apocalypse.
Yes—contrary to what most believed, the apocalypse wasn’t something that simply erupted out of nowhere. There had always been omens, scattered and subtle.
Some people might take note of them. Others might not.
But regardless, when it finally erupted in full force, the Millennium Apocalypse was capable of wiping out over half of all life across the myriad races.
Daniel clenched his fist. He had to grow stronger—and fast.
With that thought, he reflexively cast another volley of [Divine Thunder Shield].
The trio of bosses—just freshly resurrected—didn’t even get a chance to raise their claws before they were instantly disintegrated by blinding bolts of divine thunder.
At this point, Daniel wasn’t even paying attention to them anymore. His mind was preoccupied with the looming threat of the Apocalypse.
He had experienced the Blood Moon firsthand. He had looked into its crimson glow, had felt its unnatural pressure up close. He knew just how monstrous the force behind it truly was.
And if that had only been the beginning, then what would the real thing be like?
The thought made Daniel’s heart grow heavy.
"Guess luck really isn’t on my side after all..." he muttered.
The only thing he could hope for now was that the full-scale outbreak of the Millennium Apocalypse would hold off just a little longer. That would buy him more time—time to reach a power level where he could actually stand a chance.
Still holding the [Gnome Communicator] in one hand, Daniel continued to unleash unrelenting divine fury with the other.
Lightning surged wildly across the cavern. The once-dark underground lake was now completely lit up, flashing like a thunderstorm at high noon.
RUMBLE!
[You have slain Boss: Salamander King]
[You have slain Boss: Gargoyle Bat]
[You have slain Boss: Abyssal Shellmaw]
[Current Boss Kill Rewards: Treasure Chest x99 (Accumulated)]
...
[Current Boss Kill Rewards: Treasure Chest x120 (Accumulated)]
...
[Current Boss Kill Rewards: Treasure Chest x450 (Accumulated)]
Before he even realized it, Daniel had already amassed a staggering total of 450 treasure chests!
To put that in perspective—even if you gathered every human adventurer across the continent and let them farm all year long, they still wouldn’t come close to earning that many reward chests.
As time went on, the signs of impending Berserk Phase began to surface.
The bosses became increasingly aggressive, abandoning their defenses entirely to launch suicidal attacks.
Ironically, this only sped up their deaths, making the treasure farming even more efficient.
In less than twenty minutes, Daniel had slain these three bosses over a hundred times!
Before long, the moment finally arrived.
Daniel stood up from the boulder he’d been sitting on, his body relaxed but his senses sharp. His eyes slowly scanned the surroundings.
At some point, the surface of the underground lake had begun to give off a faint, rising mist.
And gradually, that mist thickened and swirled, until it started solidifying into a form.
There was no doubt about it—this was the final boss.
[Final Boss: Ultimate Water Elemental]
[Level: 60]
[HP: 600,000,000]
[Skills: Tidal Surge, Storm Vortex, Downpour Catastrophe, Reverse Current, Aqua Blade, Aqua Barrage...]
[Description: The ultimate boss wielding the power of water elements. The last trial within the Challenger’s Labyrinth. Its might is said to transcend mortal understanding.]
...
600 million HP?
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
What kind of nonsense is this? How is this not a World Rank boss?!
No wonder the Challenger’s Labyrinth had always been hailed as the most difficult of all dungeons in its tier.
Honestly, Daniel felt that this boss might even be tougher than a standard World Rank enemy.
At least when fighting World Rank bosses, you rarely had to deal with annoying little mobs interfering.
But this [Ultimate Water Elemental] had complete control over the entire underground lake—including all the minions hidden beneath the surface.
And that wasn’t all.
The three phase bosses he had been farming—[Salamander King], [Gargoyle Bat], and [Abyssal Shellmaw]—had all revived again.
This time, though, they were in Berserk Mode. Although their revival abilities had been temporarily sealed, their combat strength had more than doubled.
Which meant... Daniel now had to face not only the final boss [Ultimate Water Elemental], but also three enraged, powered-up phase bosses—simultaneously.
Daniel gritted his teeth, muttering under his breath:
"Damn it... Why does it feel like this is harder than soloing a World Rank boss?"
Hell Mode, huh?
This difficulty setting really didn’t pull its punches.
Even so, Daniel couldn’t shake the feeling that something about all this was off.
He had read all the records. The Challenger’s Labyrinth was not a new dungeon. It appeared every year—like clockwork.
Yet somehow, the version he was experiencing this year was at least ten times more difficult than any previous instance on record.
Why?
A theory began to take shape in Daniel’s mind.
Could the underground labyrinths themselves be reacting to the Millennium Apocalypse?
If the Apocalypse was truly a multiracial catastrophe on a cosmic scale, then its influence could be seeping into every corner of the world—dungeons included.
Who knew what had happened during the previous Apocalypse?
The truth had long since been buried beneath time and silence.
In a scenario like that, anything could happen.
Even a boss from an underground dungeon manifesting in the real world was no longer unthinkable.
Daniel shook his head. Maybe he was just overthinking things.
After all, he didn’t have any solid evidence—just speculation.
Still, even if there was a grain of truth in his fears, there wasn’t much he could do about it right now.
No point in worrying over hypotheticals.
"First things first—kill the damn boss."
With that resolution in mind, Daniel launched yet another volley of [Divine Thunder Shield]. But in the back of his mind, a different concern had started to brew.
Should I diversify my attack methods?
Take this dungeon, for instance—because of the sheer abundance of water elements in the air, his [Great Fireball] spell had been practically useless. Not only did it deal far less damage than normal, but the projectile itself moved sluggishly, like it was being weighed down by moisture.
It wasn’t that Daniel wanted to rely solely on [Divine Thunder Shield]—it was just that everything else he had was being heavily nerfed.
Unfortunately, he hadn’t found any new attack skills that suited him lately.
That reminded him—he still had the exclusive skill he received from Alice.
It dealt physical damage, and with the support of a bow, it could potentially become his secondary main attack method.
The only issue was... Daniel couldn’t shoot a shortbow to save his life.
Even when he tried practicing with one, he discovered that he had zero talent for it.
So for now...
All he could do was wait—and hope that Alice was as clever as he believed.
