Chapter 66: You Bastard!
Chapter 66: You Bastard!
Olivia took a deep breath. She had thought the exhaustion would help her sleep at last. When was the last time her night was without nightmares? She tossed and turned, her back covered in cold sweat, yet the sleep did not take her.
She shook her head and left her room. Relieved that the knights were not around her room, she went to the garden where she had been with Edward earlier.
With torches burning in every corner, Olivia did not realize how cold it was earlier. Now, the wind seems to be cutting her skin. She held the thin outer robe tightly.
Her feet instinctively took her to that door. It had been long since the ball ended. The knights must have left too. The door was not locked showing nothing important was kept there.
After some hesitation, Olivia opened the door. The flickering candles helped her a little. The room had long gone cold and dark. Yet she could see the flicker of the faces of cheering knights from earlier.
Her heart was palpitating. She had changed the life of so many. She found a jug of beer left in the corner. She stared at it as if she was looking at something mythical.
"It had never happened before! Everything has.. Because of me." the soft whisper made her giddy. She picked up the jug and drank directly from it. Celebrating her small successes. She had been so busy with changing her own future that she never noticed how she changed them too.
With her knowledge, she could stop the wars, prepare for the plague and even.. She took another gulp of her drink.
Damon’s eyes flickered as he watched her finishing the jug of strong beer as if it was only water. He had never seen her drinking before. Then what gave me the courage to drink like that?
She was muttering something from time to time but he could not hear it. He was only here to make sure all the knights had left. They had drunk so much that a few of them had fallen on the ground unconscious. He was about to leave when the door opened and Olivia entered. His eyes turned sharp instantly. What was she planning now?
But who would have thought she was here just for free drinks!? But her face looked so innocent in the dimly lit room. She looked so vulnerable and unaware of the dangers lurking around her. He must be tranced by her that he kept staring at her face, expressions dancing on her soft lips.
"Hey! Damon!" Damon flinched and hid behind the pillar. He had thought she had noticed him. "You crazy bastard!" Olivia slammed the jug on the table with force and stood up.
Damon’s eyes twitched. She had not noticed him. She was cursing him because she did not know he was here.
He walked out and noticed she was swaying as she walked. Soon, she bumped into a table. She fell on the ground and started crying.
Damon frowned and walked closer to help her.
"Aah! It is because of you, you bastard! I will not let you kill me! I will make sure that you fall in love with the kids and me."
"!!!!!!" Damon paused just three feet away, staring at her with strange emotions. It was true that he was planning to kill his own father. But he had never thought of killing her or the kids. Why did she curse him like he was the villain here?
Yet, there was something strange about her. He watched as she pulled her dress up to check her knees. His eyes widened and face flushed.
He looked away instantly. This woman!
"Ouch!" rubbing her knees, she pouted and sniffled looking like a lost child. Damon coughed behind her. Hoping that she would notice his presence and behave.
But as if she could not hear him, no matter how hard he coughed, she sat there and complained.
"Cough cough!"
"Tsk! If you are so sick go and meet the physician! Or are you trying to spread your germs to me." Damon froze at his spot as she turned to glare at him.
Olivia used to be so submissive and shy before. Recently she has been so sweet and flattering. But now? She was cursing at his face.
She held the table and tried to stand up but her feet gave away and she stumbled again. Her face was red and her eyes misty.
"Are you a knight?" she asked with a frown. "Do you not know knights should help ladies!"
"...." he watched as she struggled to stand properly and complained to him.
"Do you know who I am?" Her confusion gave him courage and he walked closer to her until they were only a feet apart. The light from the flickering candle fell straight on his face.
Olivia blinked and tried to look again. He looked like Damon. But there was no way Damon would be that kind. He would have already left watching her falling.
"Tsk! I think so much about him that even in my tipsy state, I only imagine him." she shook her head. "There is no way that Damon would come for my help." Damon stiffened. He could not even refute her.
But then! What was he doing here if not for her help? A slow voice in his heart told him that he only wanted to spy and it only reddened his face.
"Will you help me to my room? If your leader found me sitting here, he would think I am here to mix poison in the drinks." Damon’s face twitched again.
Did this woman always curse him behind his back.
He still walked toward her and wrapped her arms around his shoulders while holding her waist.
"Why were you here then, my lady?" Since she is drunk, She would not lie. Right?
"I was having nightmares." her voice was full of pain making him frown. "And I wanted to drink like those knights too."
"Then why did you not join the party when the lord invited you?"
