Chapter 44: A Good Wife

"Please excuse me, I still need to greet many friends." Brad took hasty steps away from the group, confusing many.

Olivia just smirked and took the sip of her drink.

"I am not that proficient but you are welcome to visit me." looking at the confused look on the faces of the crowd, she smiled helplessly and continued, "if you ever want to hear me playing the piano, my lord." Olivia turned to Mark Whitfield again. Only then did others understand.

It took a second for him to respond. Like others, even he did not understand. Brad was famous for his cold tongue and insulting nobles lower than him. They had never seen him leaving a golden chance to embarrass a beautiful girl.

"Oh that is very kind of you." but the smile on his face returned when Olivia picked up. He counted many of her skills and praised them. While she smiled brightly and behaved like a charming woman.

Many men eyed her. She might have had a lower birth but she was gorgeous. Second sons who hardly had a chance to inherit the title would not get the chance to marry a higher noble family. A beautiful girl with humble birth would be fit for them.

"My lady, once the royal family initiates, would you share a dance with me?" second son of count Moore asked finally.

Olivia gasped in surprise. She had thought the charade had failed. But she nodded with a look of gratitude.

"That would be my pleasure, my lord." she bowed her head slightly and flushed when he kissed the back of her hand.

Who does not want to kiss those milky smooth hands of hers?

As if a barrier had been broken, many men proposed a dance to her. Soon she had promised seven dances already.

"My lady.."

"Attention everyone, his majesty William Supolte Nestelte had arrived with her majesty Gabriella Supolte Nestelte." strong music followed their arrival.

Mark was about to bid her farewell when the knights announced the presence of his majesty and her majesty. They all curtsied at once as the couple climbed the stairs and took the seat on the stage.

Another announcement of the crown prince, first princess and second prince followed. Two young men and a gorgeous woman followed the couple and took seats beside them. While the crown prince sat behind his majesty, the first princess and second prince sat behind her majesty.

William stood up and smiled at his subjects.

"Thank you everyone for joining us here. Today we are celebrating the first day of the moon festival. May the blessings of the goddess will always stay with us." he extended his hand toward her majesty. She hesitated for a second before accepting the hand and smiling at the crowd.

They both walked to the dance stage and music started when they bowed to each other. Holding her hand, he swayed his hips and she followed.

"You look too stiff. Smile more and behave like the queen you are." the woman glared at the man. Her icy eyes seem to throw daggers at him. But he did not flinch at all. As if he was already immune to it.

Even the crowd did not seem to notice her hatred for her husband and the king of their empire. Everyone smiled and watched the first dance of the night. Once it ended, William bowed to his wife again.

Gabriella bowed back. Holding her gown, she walked back to the stage and sat there with a cold face. A maid as if on cue brought a glass of wine for her. Only with a drink in her hands did she look better.

The music continued to flow and many held the hands of their partner and went to the dancing area.

The first prince stood up. The daughter of duchess Lenhart was waiting for him. She smiled and held his hand. The couple left a large area for them to dance.

"My lady, shall we join them too?" Mark smiled and held Olivia’s hands. The woman nodded with a confident look. She smiled brightly and danced with him.

Many eyes turned to look at her again. Her steps were bold yet she showed a strange confidence that no one seemed to mind. Her every step, every action brought the ire of women around her while the men felt once again mesmerized.

Her eyes moved to the crowd and slowly reached the stage. Edward raised a brow at her when she locked his gaze. This girl was not that bold last night. How could she change from a little kitten to a tigress in a single night?

He picked up the glass of wine and leaned on his seat. There was no sign that he was about to dance. Olivia winked at him, making him pause. But before he could react, she had already looked back at his partner. The song ended just then.

But before Mark could even bow properly, another man took his place. They did not let Olivia leave the dancing area.

"I hope you remember our promised dance, my lady." the man kissed the back of her hand. Olvia bowed in response and they started dancing.

His hands on her waist but he could not take his gaze off Olivia.

"My lady, is anyone courting you?" Olivia stared at the man. Second son of count Moore. She did not know him too well. But she had seen him with the baroness daughter in the past.

Happily married with two sons and one daughter. The man noticed her lost stare and smiled back.

"I know it might be sudden but I am interested in you, my lady. If you allow, I can send a request for courting to your sister. I may not inherit a title, but my father will leave me with enough inheritance and land. It would suffice for a peaceful life. I will prove to be a good husband."

"But are you sure that I would be a good wife, my lord?"
