Chapter 265: The Betrayal.

"I understand that." Olivia said simply as she stood up.

As she turned to leave with Damon, the flames of the pit roared higher pausing her. She stared at the flames in confusion but the Media cleared her throat.

"After this ends, Olivia, would you consider joining the coven?" she asked in a soft voice as if they were never enemies. Olivia looked away from the pit and stared at the media. She knew that if she started with the witches, she could be guided better for her future.

But no matter how she looked at them, she did not feel that connection with them. She could feel Damon’s stiffness when he heard the question too. But he did not raise to look at her or refuse her.

"I will think about it when the time comes." she whispered softly before turning to leave.

Then he said quietly, "You handled that better than I thought. I could not believe we came out without getting killed or killing someone! Olivia looked at the closing doors of the coven. It disappeared from there, as if it was never there in the first place.

She stared at it for a long time but she was not sure if she could find it again.

"Yes, it was so surreal." she accepted. She had always thought of looking at the coven from inside. But now that she had been there, she did not get the chance to explore anything. She wanted to see those houses. Wanted to ask if her mother’s house was still there.

And if possible could she go there. There were so many questions but all of them were answered just because she was not part of them. She was not welcome there. She had felt their hatred toward them and she could not blame them.

She understood that she had lost too much. But what they did not understand was... Evelyn and the Clondoire family were using their resentment against them. They would be used and then discarded. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. This was not the time to be emotional.

Olivia didn’t look at him. "That was the easy part. The real fight starts when humans start making promises they can’t keep."

"Do you not trust Rhistel." he asked with a quizzical look on his face but Olivia shook her head.

"I am learning to trust him. But this is not only about him. Is it?" Damon paused as he finally understood. She did not trust the common villagers. Though they act like they have accepted her, they were not sure about it

And when it comes to other witches, their hatred and resentment run deeper. They have burnt witches even when they were in hiding and never harmed humans.

"I am sure we can find a way together." he held her by her shoulders and pulled her into his arms. "As long as we are with each other, we can solve any problem." Olivia nodded as she looked away.

"Let’s go back, I am hungry."

As Olivia and Damon disappeared beyond the vines and the shimmer of the barrier sealed behind them, the witches slowly turned toward Meridia, their faces a mixture of confusion, anger, and disbelief. The silence lasted a breath too long before someone finally spoke

"You’re going to believe her?" one of the younger witches hissed with disbelief and resentment evident in her voice. "You’re going to trust Rhistel? A human who’s already betrayed us once?"

Another older witch stepped forward, her tone biting. "Do you really think peace is possible with them? Or are you just tired, Meridia?"

A murmur of agreement rippled through the circle. Dozens of eyes watched her closely, questioning, not just her decision, but her strength to lead.

But Merida didn’t answer.

Without a word, she stepped down from the stone platform. The others fell silent, watching her go with unease tightening in their chests. They looked at each other but alas, no one had the reply of their questions.

Evelyn walked into the guest house that was rarely used by them. Inside, Evelyn was resting. She had heard from the whispers that Olivia had come to visit them with Damon. Inside, her chest was tightened as she was waiting for the news. Waiting for the war to start so that she could finally that witch’s end.

But so much time had passed yet she did not hear a single murmur. She was pacing inside the room when the door suddenly opened.

She looked up as Meridia entered with tension flashing in her eyes. Despite her weakened state, she straightened her back, ready for what was coming.

"Was it Rhistel?" she asked, her voice quiet but filled with sharpness "Was he the one who ordered the attack on us all these years?"

Evelyn’s jaw tightened. "Why are you asking this now?"

Meridia’s eyes narrowed when Evlyn did not reply at once with confidence. She sneered as she walked closer. "Because our blood witch is offering peace. And she is asking for Rhistel’s name to be written in oaths. She said that we could trust him as the leader of the northern territory. I want to know if the man she is protecting is the one who had killed us mercilessly all these years."

Evelyn’s fingers twitched. She looked away for a moment, just long enough for Meridia to notice. And a frown appeared on her lips

"Yes,"s he said at last. "It was him. He is the leader. Could anyone touch you without his permission here?"

"He feared the coven would grow stronger, and he would lose control over the estate. So he ordered the villagers to burn the witches wherever they were found using their fears. You could never trust him" Evelyn laughed bitterly. "We were all fooled to believe that you were wicked when it was all his greed."

Meridia’s expression didn’t change, but a slow breath left her lips. She turned her back to her, "if that is the case, then i must meet him and question him or else everyone would be fooled."
