Chapter 1279 - Chapter 1279 Chapter 1273 Whos Outside_1
Chapter 1279: Chapter 1273: Who’s Outside_1 Chapter 1279: Chapter 1273: Who’s Outside_1 In his absence these past few days, he had been looking for a place to live in order to work without disturbance. Now, he had found a place. Hence, he had no choice but to leave. He couldn’t let this woman harbor any more feelings for him as he knew it would only hurt her in the end.
“You’re leaving?” Fang’er’s mother was taken aback by this news.
“Yes, I have completed my duties, so I have to go,” the man replied with as detached as he was when they first met. However, she knew that his heart was warm. He would help her chop firewood and fetch water, and her feelings for him had deepened over time. She thought that the efforts he had put into her home indicated some affection towards her.
Because of this, she had openly called him her man to the villagers. Yes, there was a selfish motive behind it. She hoped to have the moral upper hand and get him to accept her. However, she hadn’t expected to hear such heartbreaking words from him in the end.
“Can’t you stay?” Fang’er’s mother clung on to a faint glimmer of hope.
“I can’t.” The man, who usually spoke little, now appeared to be growing impatient.
“After all this time, do you really have no feelings for me?” Fang’er’s mother asked the man after sending her daughter away.
“We had an agreement from the start. You have overstepped the boundary,” the man said and stood up, heading for the exit.
“So it was just my foolish wishful thinking,” Fang’er’s mother said with a bitter smile.
“Mom, are you alright?” Fang’er entered the room only after the man had left.
“I am fine, Fang’er. From now on, it will be just the two of us in this house,” Fang’er’s mother said, tears streaming down her face.
“What about Dad?” Fang’er asked, referring to the man who had just left.
“He is not your father. He is the benefactor who helped us in our time of need, and now he must leave. We will be on our own from now on.” In her heart, Fang’er’s mother knew she had been too greedy and couldn’t blame him for leaving.
From the beginning, he was reluctant. She had insisted on helping him. However, spending time together gave rise to feelings that should not have been there. She thought that he might be leaving because she had called him her man in front of so many people. He had not publicly rebuked her, which already saved her face.
What a foolish woman she was to believe that she had succeeded. Ever since then, the man showed up even less frequently. This rare visit turned out to be a farewell.
It would be a lie to say that she wasn’t heartbroken. She had genuinely fallen in love with that man after their time together. However, she knew she had no place in his heart, which was why she couldn’t say they should get married.
She knew all the village gossips but she had endured it all. She realized it was her own doing, so she decided to stop blaming others and continue living her life. From now on, she would raise her daughter alone without loving another person again. Yet, she couldn’t forget the man who appeared cold on the outside but was warm-hearted.
After the man left Fang’er’s house, he immediately headed in a certain direction. Not long after, another sturdy man appeared at the former spot.
Touching his current face, the man thought that no one should be able to recognize him now.
“Who’s there?” The man was startled by a harsh voice just as he approached the window. What sharp instincts.
He knew someone had recently given birth in the village, but he had not seen that person, so he had no idea what she looked like and that she was injured.
The villagers were generally cautious around the Maternal. Thus, only Qin Xue’s family had seen the woman in this house. The other villagers knew nothing about her, let alone anything else.
