Chapter 1198: Chapter 1192 Unreasonable Person_1 Chapter 1198: Chapter 1192 Unreasonable Person_1 “Sister-in-law, this piece of meat costs two bucks in total,” said the butcher after weighing the meat for Fang Xiu.
Fang Xiu took out her purse and handed over two bucks. She was having a good day; she had fortunately stumbled upon a meat stall. As she was mute, she refrained from asking about the price per pound, electing instead to choose a piece and weigh it.
Thankfully, she had brought enough money; otherwise, she wouldn’t have had enough to pay for her groceries.
“Alright, please come again.” The butcher handed the pork to Fang Xiu, his teeth exposed in a broad smile as he pocketed the money.
Fang Xiu gave a small nod after a soft laugh, holding the meat as she waled away.
“Oh my!” was heard from behind- it caused Fang Xiu to take quick steps backward to regain her balance.
“Are you blind? Can’t you watch where you’re going?” the woman started ranting immediately.
Fang Xiu watched the scene unfold somewhat helplessly, even though it was the woman who had bumped into her, it seemed wrong for this woman to be berating her so uncaringly.
“Cat got your tongue? I asked you a question,” Mrs. Gu said discontentedly, as she had not anticipated a collision upon arriving at the market.
Was she cursed to encounter such misfortunes every time she visited the market? Last time she was here, she got bumped into, and later, her daughter too experienced the same on her visit.
Today, she had come to buy some ingredients to cook for her returning husband, but she didn’t expect this unfortunate incident.
Fang Xiu was feeling so wronged that she would have wanted to retort if she had been able to speak.
“Can’t you even apologize after bumping into someone, woman?” Mrs. Gu said, staring at Fang Xiu. Her mood was already sour; despite her husband’s return, her quick grocery trip had turned sour.
“You think if you stay silent, it will all go away?” Mrs. Gu said bitterly, “Look, you’ve even dirtied my clothes. Can you afford to pay?” She assumed Fang Xiu was impoverished because of her simple clothes.
“Speak up! Do you think playing the mute can exempt you from paying?” Mrs. Gu reproached Fang Xiu angrily.
Mrs. Gu pushed Fang Xiu when she continued to remain silent, totally ignoring her pregnant state.
“Have you no humanity left? Can’t you see she’s pregnant?” Rain was at the market for grocery shopping because her mistress had asked her to buy whatever she fancied for a meal. Therefore, she had come especially to the market, as she was familiar with everyone’s tastes and preferences.
She hadn’t expected to stumble upon such a scene.
Moreover, she knew Fang Xiu, and this made her even angrier.
This sister-in-law is so kind and innocent, yet she was being bullied. It made her want to curse.
“What’s it to you, mind your own business,” Mrs. Gu didn’t know who Rain was, so when she saw this young girl, she snapped back at her.
“Listen lady, the question here isn’t about whether it’s my business or not. The issue here is you, regardless of whether she bumped into you or not, she’s pregnant. I don’t think she bumped into you intentionally,” Rain said, helping Fang Xiu to her feet and glaring at Mrs. Gu. To such a person, the guilty party was clear as day.
“Exactly! I saw her bump into this sister-in-law,” a voice came from the crowd.
“Right, I saw it too,”
“Yes, I also saw it,”
…
As one person chimed in, more and more voices echoed in agreement.
“You’re all talking nonsense. It was clearly her who bumped into me,” Mrs. Gu couldn’t believe so many people were siding with this impoverished woman.
“Whether we’re talking nonsense or not, you know in your heart. You insisting it’s all nonsense – are you suggesting we’re all wrong? That it’s our vision that’s impaired?” The crowd became outraged; Mrs. Gu was essentially suggesting they had vision problems, which nobody would accept. This prompted everyone to retort to Mrs. Gu’s remark.
