Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Renovation Begins

After Gu Yi woke up, she handed the fabric meant for making clothes for the Ye Family’s parents to Ye’s mother.

"Save your money and buy more clothes for yourself. Your dad and I have enough clothes. Next time, don’t worry about it. Save some money for yourself because when you have kids in the future, there will be more expenses."

Ye’s mother looked at what Gu Yi brought. Although she was happy that Gu Yi remembered the two old folks, she still felt a bit reluctant.

"Mom, I know you’re looking out for us. This is my way of showing respect to you and dad. You can find a tailor in town to make them when you have time, okay?"

Gu Yi could understand Ye Family’s parents. They have had tough times, but having experienced the future, she wanted to honor her parents while they are still young and healthy.

After Ye’s mother took the fabric inside, Gu Yi took her two dresses to wash and hang them to dry.

During dinner, Gu Yi mentioned she wanted to visit B City once the store renovation was almost done to see if there were any other spices available there.

Ye’s mother got excited as soon as she heard Gu Yi’s plan.

"That’s great, and while you’re there, you can also visit Hao Hao."

"Mom, I didn’t plan to go to the military base. Ye Hao is so busy there; I don’t want to disturb him. I just want to look around the city, buy what I need, and then come back."

Gu Yi quickly cut off Ye’s mother, as she only wanted to buy spices and casually check out the current development in B City.

"How could that be a disturbance? If you go, Hao Hao will be thrilled. You absolutely must visit. When are you buying the tickets? You should buy them in advance. Once you’ve got the tickets, write a letter to Hao Hao and let him know to pick you up at the station. What do you think, dear?"

Seeing Gu Yi’s stance, Ye’s mother immediately pulled Ye Fu into the persuasion team.

"Since you’re going that far, you might as well drop by and stay a few more days." Ye Fu spoke up as well.

"Alright, I’ll go to the county to buy the tickets tomorrow. Can I ask Qianqian to come with me? I’m afraid if I buy too much, it’ll be hard for me to carry everything back alone."

Seeing Ye Family’s parents’ attitude, Gu Yi realized she couldn’t avoid going to the military base. She thought of bringing Ye Qian along so at least she wouldn’t face Ye Hao alone, as they were practically strangers now.

"Sure, I’d love to visit my brother’s military base too. So, mom and dad, I’ll go with sister-in-law. It’s better to have company on the road."

"Okay, you two go together, and we’ll feel more at ease."

Ye Fu, seeing Ye Qian agree, had no objections, feeling that they could look after each other on the road.

Gu Yi had slimmed down and now only soaked in moxa once a week, but she still insisted on doing yoga every day. In the mornings, she would go for a walk whenever she was home and had nothing else to do.

At night, after exercising and lying in bed, Gu Yi couldn’t even recall Ye Hao’s face.

Oh well, if she had to go to the military base, she’d go. It might be a good opportunity to clarify things with Ye Hao and not hold him up.

The next morning, Gu Yi went to the city by herself to open the shop for Liu Qing.

She arrived at the store a little after nine. Liu Qing, along with an apprentice, had already bought the materials and stacked them at the entrance.

As soon as Gu Yi arrived, they began moving the materials into the house, leaving the bricks stacked outside to bring in as needed.

After moving everything in, the two began mixing the cement, planning to first set up the bar and then repaint the walls.

Seeing them busy with work, Gu Yi left the keys with Liu Qing.

Since Li Gang recommended him, Gu Yi trusted him. Besides, traveling back and forth every day was tiring and time-consuming. The town’s bus to the county departed at eight, and it would be nine by the time it reached the county, which was inconvenient.

After handing over the keys, Gu Yi told Liu Qing that she’d head back in the afternoon and asked him to lock up when he left.

Once everything was settled, Gu Yi headed to the train station to buy her tickets first.

Maybe because it’s a small station in the county, there weren’t many people there. This station didn’t have a direct train to B City, so she had to transfer at the provincial capital.

The train from here departed at eight in the evening and arrived at the provincial capital at six in the morning. A train from the provincial capital to B City left at eight in the morning and arrived in B City at one in the afternoon.

In the past life, she and Ye Hao often took these two trains, so they planned to take the same ones this time.

She bought two tickets for each leg of the journey. The tickets weren’t sold by real name back then, so she bought them quickly, for five days later.

Seeing that it was still early, Gu Yi went directly to the post office.

She asked the staff for paper and a pen, wrote the departure time and train numbers in a letter, then bought a stamp and envelope, addressed it to Ye Hao, and sent it off.

The next day, Gu Yi didn’t go to the store but went back to her own family.

She took the fabric she had bought for her parents and nieces and dropped it off, also wanting to check if the platform Gu’s father made for her was ready.

Gu Yi had gotten used to the walk to the Gu family over the past few months and had sped up. Now it only took her a little over twenty minutes to get there, and she wasn’t out of breath or tired.

Both her nieces were taken to their maternal grandmother’s by their parents, so when Gu Yi arrived, the courtyard was quiet.

Gu Yi handed the pieces of fabric to Gu’s mother just as Gu’s father returned from outside and repeated the same spiel as Ye’s mother.

Seeing her dad’s unending chatter, Gu Yi quickly interrupted him.

"Dad, did you finish the platform I asked you to make last time?"

"It’s done. It’s in the storage room. I’ll take you to see it."

With that, he led Gu Yi to see it. It was the first thing his daughter requested after getting married, so Gu’s father made it with extra care.

With his daughter visiting, he could check if there was anything unsuitable, so he could fix it.

When Gu Yi saw it in the storage room, she was quite pleased. It fit inside the bar area and could serve as a workbench. Gu’s father had even made a few compartments underneath, exceeding Gu Yi’s expectations.

"Dad, your craftsmanship is really good. You could even make things to sell. The business would definitely not be bad."

"You’re just teasing me. How could these things sell?"

Gu’s father didn’t take Gu Yi’s words seriously.

"Of course they can. With skills like yours, what you make is sure to be popular."

"Sure, let’s just say you’re praising me."

Gu Yi recognized from Gu’s father’s attitude that he was just brushing her off.

Meanwhile, she was really considering encouraging her older and second brothers in this direction once she settled in the county and could discuss it with them.

"Dad, I really can’t carry this on my own. I’m planning to visit Ye Hao in a few days. After I return, maybe my older brother can bring it to me when he’s free."

"Why did you decide to go there? You haven’t traveled far before, are you sure you’ll find your way?"

Gu Yi and Gu’s father talked as they walked outside.

"Yeah, you haven’t traveled far before. Why not have your dad or brother go with you?"

Gu’s mother heard their conversation. Though she felt it was good for Gu Yi to see Ye Hao, she was worried about Gu Yi traveling by herself.

"Dad, Mom, I’m mainly going to see if there are any spices there that we don’t have here. I want to sell some food items and having new flavors couldn’t hurt. You don’t have to worry; Ye Qian will go with me, and I’ve already bought the tickets."

The Gu parents, hearing that everything was arranged, didn’t say anything more.
