Chapter 82: Duel at Dawn: The One Who Dared to Challenge the Abyss Daddy

Dawn painted the war camp in golden hues, but there was no peace in the air—only the tense silence that precedes disaster.

Wang Li yawned as he stepped out of the war tent, still groggy from barely surviving another night surrounded by six unreasonable women who each insisted on "sharing cultivation warmth." Whatever that meant, it had nearly broken his dantian.

He stretched his arms... only to hear a thunderous boom shake the sky.

A pillar of crimson light erupted on the far side of the camp.

"Challenge issued!" shouted a cultivator from the Cloud Sound Sect. "A formal one! It’s—it’s to Hero Wang Li!"

Wang Li paused mid-stretch. "I beg your pardon?"

A young disciple ran toward him, panting. "M-My Lord! The Crimson Blaze Patriarch’s Young Master Qin Huoyan has challenged you to a Heavenly Oath Duel! In front of everyone!"

Ling Xi appeared beside him, already dressed in an extravagant duel-cheerleader outfit. "Oooooh. This is gonna be fun."

Feng Yuling frowned. "A Heavenly Oath Duel isn’t just for honor—it’s for marriage rights. And sect dominance."

"Marriage rights?!" Wang Li’s jaw dropped. "Wait, wait, wait. This is a romance novel, not a sect war marriage drama!"

Yuechan floated down from the sky, dressed immaculately as always. "It is now. He wants to defeat you to claim the right to court Bai Xueyao again... and apparently, Mu Qingling and Feng Yuling."

"...Why me," Wang Li whispered to the heavens.

Bai Xueyao cracked her knuckles. "That idiot again? I already rejected him three years ago."

Mu Qingling’s face was cold. "He’s asking for a beating."

Lin Ruoyan, who was sharpening a dagger with an expressionless face, suddenly said, "I’ll cut off his hands."

Even the normally aloof Yuechan smiled, though hers was the terrifying kind that made ancient beasts retreat. "Let’s see if he survives five breaths."

But Wang Li sighed. "No. I’ll deal with him. Alone."

The girls all stared at him.

Yuechan raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

"...Because if I don’t, this entire war camp will explode from gossip and testosterone poisoning."

The Duel Grounds – One Hour Later

Hundreds of cultivators surrounded the jade arena.

In the center stood Wang Li, dressed in black and gold robes, his aura restrained yet impossibly deep.

Across from him stood Qin Huoyan, adorned in red flame robes, a smirk playing on his lips.

"I see you accepted my challenge," Qin said coldly. "Good. You’ve shamed the righteous path long enough."

Wang Li scratched his head. "Dude. You do know that the whole ’pregnancy’ thing is just a stupid rumor, right?"

"That doesn’t matter! The daughters of the heavens should not belong to a single man!"

"Oh. So this is a harem grudge match."

"Hmph. Call it what you want. Once I win, I’ll take Bai Xueyao back. And maybe I’ll tame Mu Qingling too."

A loud crack echoed as Bai Xueyao crushed a spirit rock in her hand offstage.

"You’re a dead man," she muttered.

Mu Qingling simply licked her blade.

The duel referee stepped forward. "By the laws of the Heavenly Sects, this is a sanctioned duel! One may concede or fall unconscious. Death is discouraged but not forbidden!"

Qin Huoyan surged forward instantly, his flames twisting into a flaming serpent that roared toward Wang Li.

"Burning Nine Heavens Art—Flame Serpent Overlord Strike!"

The arena shook. The crowd cheered.

Wang Li stood there, looking slightly bored.

The flames closed in.

Then, with a simple wave of his hand, Wang Li whispered, "Dragon King’s Breath."

A blast of golden-blue dragon qi surged out—not flashy, not loud, just devastating. It tore through Qin Huoyan’s flame technique like a divine tide washing away a candle.

BOOM!

Qin Huoyan was flung across the arena like a ragdoll, embedded halfway into the opposite wall.

The crowd fell dead silent.

"...What just happened?" someone whispered.

"He didn’t even move."

"Was that... dragon qi?!"

Wang Li exhaled. "Can I go back to sleep now?"

But then—

Qin Huoyan stood up, coughing blood, eyes filled with madness.

"You dare?! You think this is over?! I still have one final move!"

He roared and unleashed his trump card—"Crimson Phoenix Descent!"

A fiery phoenix formed above the arena, its wings burning reality itself.

"Oh, crap," Wang Li muttered. "That one might actually hurt."

Just as the phoenix screeched and dove—

BOOM!

A lightning bolt struck the phoenix from the sky.

Everyone turned.

Yuechan descended from the sky with divine grace, eyes cold.

"Enough," she said.

Behind her, Ling Xi held a bottle of wine. "We warned you."

Mu Qingling cracked her knuckles.

Feng Yuling unsheathed her sword.

Bai Xueyao summoned her glaive.

Lin Ruoyan vanished.

A second later, Qin Huoyan screamed. "MY BELT! SHE STOLE MY BELT!"

The entire arena erupted in chaos.

Ten seconds later, Wang Li had to intervene to prevent actual murder.

Again.

Later That Night

The girls were gathered around him, each arguing about whose turn it was to "warm his meridians."

"No!" Ling Xi pouted. "He’s mine tonight!"

Feng Yuling raised an eyebrow. "You stole two turns last week."

"I’m the one who stopped the phoenix. Shouldn’t I get a reward?" Yuechan said calmly.

Wang Li groaned and covered his face. "Can I just meditate alone tonight?"

The silence that followed was enough to terrify the abyss.

"...Fine," they all said in terrifying unison.

Wang Li’s soul left his body again.
