Reborn Heiress: Married To My Ex-Husband's Rival -
Chapter 98 Little Moments
Chapter 98: Chapter 98 Little Moments
The sun was warm but not too hot that day, and the park was busy with people enjoying the day. Nicole and Jasmine strolled along the roadside path as they headed to the park to have some fun with Hailey. Jasmine had one hand resting on her belly as she walked, and it was obvious now that she was nearly due.
Nicole carried the picnic bag and was already sweating lightly, but she kept a cheerful face.
Hailey ran ahead of them, her pink dress waving every side behind her. She waved to a group of kids by the swings, then rushed off to join them.
The park was full of laughter, balloons, and the sweet smell of popcorn. There were park officials in yellow vests watching the kids, walking around and keeping everything under control. The security system made the park really safe that Nicole could freely wander off, leaving Hailey with the officials and other kids.
"Finally," Jasmine said, placing a hand on her lower back and sighing. "I needed this walk. If I sit in that house for one more hour, I swear my legs will turn into stone."
Nicole laughed and nudged her lightly. "Girl, you’re carrying a whole human. I don’t know how you’re even walking. When I was pregnant with Hailey, oh God—I don’t even want to think about it." She growled.
"It’s either i walk or give birth on your couch. So pick your battle," Jasmine said, grinning.
Nicole threw her head back and laughed. "Lord, no. My couch is not ready for that trauma."
They reached a small bar inside the park that had patio chairs and umbrellas. The bar served cocktails, iced drinks and snacks. The place wasn’t too busy, and they picked a table under a big umbrella. Jasmine eased herself into the chair while moaning with exaggerated an effort.
Nicole sat across from her and ordered two fruit smoothies. "You know, you’re acting like you’re carrying twins."
"Well, I’m not," Jasmine said, sipping her drink once it came. "But this little girl kicks like she’s trying to climb out through my ribs."
Nicole shook her head with a smile. "She’s going to be wild. Just like her mama."
Jasmine smirked and leaned in a bit. "Speaking of wild... when are you going to stop playing grandma and start acting like a woman with needs?"
Nicole blinked. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me," Jasmine said. "You’ve been single since Hailey was what? In your womb?"
"She was four," Nicole corrected.
"Okay, four. Still too long. You need to get out more. Find yourself a man. A fine one. With a beard. And muscles. And maybe a motorcycle."
Nicole snorted. "What, so I can die on the highway with a man named Blade?"
"Yes! Blade sounds sexy," Jasmine said. "He’d treat you like a queen. Or at least like a very expensive toaster."
Nicole rolled her eyes but laughed. "I don’t have time for dating. I have a child."
"Hailey is seven. She has more of a social life than you. Look at her." Jasmine pointed at the playground where Hailey was already organizing some kind of jumping game. "That girl has friends, a club, probably a boyfriend. What do you have? A Netflix subscription?"
Nicole tried to look offended, but she burst out laughing instead. "Don’t insult Netflix. Netflix has been loyal."
Jasmine leaned back in her chair and gave her a look. "Be serious. You’re smart, beautiful, funny...."
Nicole cut in. "And I snore."
"Yeah, but cute snoring," Jasmine said. "Like a small dragon."
Nicole laughed so hard she almost spilled her smoothie. "Wow. A small dragon. I’ll be sure to put that on my dating profile."
"Oh, speaking of which," Jasmine said, pulling out her phone. "I’m making you one."
Nicole’s eyes went wide. "Wait, what? No. You are not."
"I’m serious. I’ll even write your bio. ’Hot single mom who makes amazing pancakes and can survive a zombie apocalypse with one hand tied behind her back.’ " Jasmine grinned like a maniac as she kept tapping on her phone.
Nicole shook her head, laughing. "Please don’t. I beg you. That sounds like someone who keeps an axe under their pillow."
"You probably do."
"That’s beside the point," Nicole said, trying to stop laughing. "I’m not ready to date. Men are stressful. I already have enough chaos with Hailey’s homework and missing socks."
"Well, you don’t have to marry the first guy. Just talk. Flirt. Go out. Wear heels too."
"Jasmine, I haven’t worn heels since Obama left office."
"That’s exactly the problem," Jasmine said. "We’re fixing your life. Starting now."
Nicole shook her head but her smile didn’t fade. "Why are you like this?"
"Because I care," Jasmine said, with an innocent smile. "And because if I have to push this baby out soon, I need my best friend to have something spicy to talk about while I’m stuck in diapers and late-night feeding."
Nicole laughed again and gave in. "Fine. One profile. But if any man sends me a picture of his elbow or worse—his dick, I’m blaming you."
"Deal," Jasmine said happily, already typing. "What should your username be? HotMom47"
"That’s.....hectic." Nicole sipped from her smoothie. "Let me have a look when you’re done."
"Sure thing." Jasmine was fully concentrated while Nicole pressed her phone too while sipping from her smoothie that they didn’t even realize when the two men walked in.
Raymond and Kingsley exchanged glances before walking to the ladies table.
"Hey, beauties. Care if we join you, ladies??" Raymond said smoothly, a small smile was on his face.
Nicole and Jasmine raised their heads simultaneously. Jasmine blinked when she saw Kingsley standing beside Raymond, staring down at her with a faint smile on his face.
Nicole swallowed hard—
’what a day to show up. Just when I’m getting myself to mingle with single men, my baby’s daddy showed up!’ She growled in her head.
"My foot hurts. Are you all just gonna stare at us or invite us to join in the fun??" Raymond complained, trying to lighten up the mood.
"Oh. Right." Nicole cleared her throat, brushing off the awkward encounter. "You both can sit with us."
Kingsley placed himself on the chair next to Jasmine while Raymond found himself sitting next to Nicole.
Jasmine tried her hardest to pretend like Kingsley wasn’t sitting close to her but it was very difficult to ignore especially when he leaned in and whispered to her:
"Feeling good today, preggy??"
Jasmine jolted. Her reaction was a little extreme and it made her ears turn red in embarrassment. "Ye-yes. I mean, I’m good today." She stammered.
Nicole shook her head and it made Raymond smirk. "You think you could spare me some time. I need us to talk."
Nicole inclined her head to look at him. He looked genuine. Nicole turned to see Jasmine was already having some little small talks with her handsome Ex-husband, Kingsley—Nicole just shrugged. "Okay. Fine."
Jasmine countered Kingsley’s words. "I told you I am okay."’
"You don’t seem fine to me." Kingsley argued back. Their faces were really close as they whispered to each other, getting on each other’s nerves.
"And what makes you think so?" Jasmine raised a brow.
"Because you haven’t seen me or heard from me for some time now. You probably spent the days thinking about me and couldn’t function properly." Kingsley commented and Jasmine scoffed. She was about to counter his words when Nicole butted in.
"Hey. Ex-love birds..."
Kingsley turned to look at her while Jasmine just glared at Nicole. Nicole laughed a little. "Well, I and Mr Schnitzel will be going to the shade over there so y’all get some privacy to argue."
Jasmine flushed red. "No no. You don’t have to leave. I—"
"It’s okay. Enjoy." Nicole stood up and Raymond winked at Kingsley.
"No. Come back." Jasmine tried to protest but Nicole already ditched her and left with Raymond. "That betrayal."
Kingsley smirked, slipping his hand on hers. "Now. You’re alone with me. What should we do to make the moment count??"
"How about you leave me alone?? It will be appreciated."
Kingsley hummed. "No. I don’t offer that. Say something else.."
Jasmine growled as she face palmed. "Oh. Fuck you,Elm."
