Chapter 235: 235 Let’s Get Our Marriage Certificate (Part One)

Ye Cheng spoke to Xiaofeng with a firm tone, not yielding an inch, "Like this, I’ll drive you there, and you have Tie Bao bring another person along, so next time even if you don’t go, Tie Bao and the other person will be able to finish the job by themselves, won’t they?"

Xiaofeng glanced at Ye Cheng, and even though she was slow to catch on to certain things, she couldn’t help but sense that Ye Cheng was not joking.

A man would not take such an interest in a woman for no reason, especially since his intentions were so clear. If she couldn’t figure it out, her reaction would be far too slow.

She looked around and noticed that Baozi and the others were all looking at her, and she cracked a smile, "Baozi, have Liu Chunming follow you onto the truck. He’s a local, let him get familiar with it too. From now on, the two of you will team up to make deliveries."

Liu Chunming was a young man recently hired, full of youth and vitality, a promising prospect.

"Alright, I’ll call him right now." Tie Bao laughed heartily, turned around, and entered the factory to fetch Liu Chunming.

Xiaofeng turned and followed into Ye Cheng’s car. Seeing that she had accepted his suggestion, Ye Cheng felt his mood lighten.

He had thought about it all night, and today he had a significant decision to share with Xiaofeng.

"How’s your hand, can you manage?" Xiaofeng looked at his hand, still wrapped in gauze, and couldn’t tell how deep the wound was.

"Just a minor injury, it’s nothing serious." Ye Cheng started the car as Xiaofeng settled in, and he mentioned as if in casual conversation, "I’m going to leave this place."

Xiaofeng was taken aback.

It took her a while to realize that he meant to return to where he belonged.

Xiaofeng opened her mouth, unsure of what to say next, only to hear herself reply, "That’s probably for the best. You and your kind never belonged here anyway. It’s best to return to where you belong."

"Something happened at home that requires me to go back and take care of it, but I’ll be back." Ye Cheng steered the wheel, "Before I go, though, I want to repay a favor to you."

Xiaofeng blinked, puzzled, "You don’t owe me any favors. What favor do you need to repay?"

"I’ve heard everything from the dumpling shop owner, about how you stepped forward to give me mouth-to-mouth when I was ill. If this had been ancient times, we’d have been considered to have had intimate contact, and I’d be obliged to marry you," Ye Cheng said with a calm expression, as if it were an ordinary remark.

To Xiaofeng, however, it sounded utterly shocking.

No way, Ye Cheng was considering a marriage proposal...

She swallowed hard, "Hey, anyone would have done the same in that situation, and besides, it’s a way to save a life. Any doctor would do it. If we go by what you’re saying, then doctors would need to marry off quite a few people."

"Don’t worry, I’m not actually going to marry you. I just want to help you out, consider it repaying a favor."

"How do you plan on helping me?" Xiaofeng looked at him suspiciously. So, he wasn’t seriously talking about marriage – maybe he planned to sort things out with money.

Ye Cheng glanced at Xiaofeng’s belly, "You wouldn’t want your baby to be born without a household registration, right? Plus, your baby will need to go to school someday. It’s going to be quite difficult to get registered if you don’t get married. You’ve helped me, and before I leave, I want to help you too."

"You mean, you want to register our marriage, be a fake husband and wife?" That’s what he meant, right?

Ye Cheng nodded, "Exactly. Rest assured. We’ll only be a fake married couple, and besides, I’m about to leave this place soon. That should make you very happy."

Xiaofeng felt a niggle of unease despite the proposal, but his sincerity was compelling. Wouldn’t it be unfair to him? "Ye Cheng, are you sure you want to help me? It seems quite unfair to you. After all, even if we divorced amicably later on, you’d be considered a divorcee."

A fine young man, determined to marry her. Well, it’s just that... Ye Cheng was quite eligible, and if it weren’t for the little ones in her belly, dating him would indeed have been a wonderful thing.

Of course, now that Ye Cheng had proposed this, she was truly tempted.

Ye Cheng wasn’t wrong. Even if she didn’t need a man or the children didn’t need a father, they couldn’t go without a household registration.

In this day and age, for someone with a child out of wedlock, getting registered is a tremendous challenge. Of course, it was different for children born in wedlock.

Ye Cheng curved his lips into a smile, and to Xiaofeng, that smile made him seem tremendously charismatic.

"Su Xiaofeng, let’s put it this way, with my conditions, not to mention a second marriage, even if it were a third, plenty of good girls would still want to marry me. So all you need to do is nod your head, and you don’t have to consider anything else." He had thought about this decision all night yesterday.

He wanted to do something for Su Xiaofeng before he left, and after much consideration, the only conclusion was to get a marriage certificate with her.

Firstly, even if he couldn’t return on time, Su Xiaofeng wouldn’t face as much criticism when the baby was born, and secondly, he truly didn’t dislike Su Xiaofeng. Su Xiaofeng was the only female who could get close to him.

Listening to him, Su Xiaofeng knew that wasn’t just confidence but that his conditions were probably even better than she had imagined.

He had a pager, drove a car worth hundreds of thousands, and carried an air of nobility that definitely wasn’t cultivated in a small household.

"Ye Cheng, are you serious?" Su Xiaofeng was genuinely moved, not by Ye Cheng, but by the conditions he proposed.

"Do I look like I’m making this up?" Ye Cheng looked at her with a tenderness he didn’t even realize he had.

Xiaofeng met his gaze, and nearly got lost in those eyes—gentle, warm, indulgent, yet with a hint of holding back.

Uncomfortably, she averted her eyes, "What happens after we get the marriage certificate?"

"If I don’t come back within a year, our marriage will automatically be annulled. If I do return within a year, whether we divorce or stay together is up to you."

"Ye Cheng, I must say, this offer is very tempting. You’re right, having a baby out of wedlock, registering the baby’s household would be a major problem. As long as we’re married, that problem will no longer be an issue and it will become very easy."

"So..." Are you going to marry me?

"Will your family know about our marriage?" Xiaofeng didn’t want to cause too much trouble for Ye Cheng.

"Would you prefer I tell them, or not?" Ye Cheng kept his eyes on the road ahead, his lips slightly upturned as he heard Xiaofeng gradually take the matter of marriage to heart.

"It’s best not to tell them if possible. I’m afraid your family won’t accept it." Xiaofeng looked straight at him, "Maybe you should think it over again. If you don’t want to and someone else comes along to register with me, I won’t hesitate. But let me be clear, we’re just getting a certificate. In other words, I’m just borrowing your name to use for my baby’s household registration. As soon as the baby’s residence is successfully registered, I’m okay with divorcing at any time."

"You sure are straightforward," Ye Cheng chuckled.

"I think we need to draft an agreement stating that you are willing and that the marriage can end at any time." Now that registering the marriage was on the agenda, she had to list some clauses tonight, and she knew there would be more than just a few.

"So you’re agreeing."

"You said it was just to borrow for a while, it would be too disrespectful not to agree. Just don’t regret it later, after all, you’re a fine prize and I feel a bit guilty for grabbing you," although she felt her own situation wasn’t bad, she still hadn’t been here long enough to establish a firm footing.

"I’ve taken a look at the dates, and tomorrow seems quite auspicious. Why don’t we go ahead and get the certificate tomorrow?" Ye Cheng said as he took out an old almanac from the car, "Take a look for yourself, except for tomorrow, the upcoming dates aren’t so great."

Xiaofeng’s mouth twitched slightly, even carrying an old almanac in the car, it felt like Ye Cheng was somewhat eager.

Flipping through it casually, she asked, "When are you leaving here?"

"Probably in the next few days."

"Alright then, tomorrow it is. But let me say this first, we’re only getting a certificate, and there will be no conjugal relations between us. You understand, right?" Some things had to be said clearly so there was no expectation of fulfilling husbandly duties and rights after getting the certificate—that was definitely not happening.

"I’d like to, but first, I need to be here for that," Ye Cheng listened to Xiaofeng’s words with strong caution, "Since we’re getting the certificate tomorrow, let’s go shopping today for clothes to wear for registration and also get you a few things a new bride should have."

Xiaofeng casually set aside the almanac, "Does it have to be so official?"

"What do you think? This is both your first marriage and mine. Regardless of whether we have feelings or not, shouldn’t we at least have the ceremony? What do you say?"

Xiaofeng stared at Ye Cheng’s handsome face, her heart sighed inwardly; such a good-looking young man was about to become her husband, and with that in mind, it really wouldn’t do to wrong him, "Alright, since you’re helping me out, I’ll help you buy."

"You think I’m short on money?" Ye Cheng was in a good mood, his face no longer the cold lines it usually was, but instead soft and indulgent.
