Reborn as the Villain's Wife, I Shine in 80s
Chapter 48: What kind of grass?

Chapter 48: What kind of grass?

"Then I’m heading back." Feeling completely disoriented, Chen Ying noticed the door was locked as she tried to open it. Why did Zhou Ge lock the door? Could this have been his plan all along?

Chen Ying dashed out of the room in a panic, nearly bumping into Tian Tian.

Laughing mischievously, Tian Tian greeted her with a knowing smile. "Yingzi, just coming from Zhou Zheng’s place, huh?"

"There’s nothing between us! Don’t overthink it," Chen Ying stopped in her tracks to explain.

"I never said there was anything between you two." Tian Tian sized her up with a teasing smile, covering her mouth as she laughed. "Unless there really is something?"

"Hmph!" Chen Ying steadied her breath. "What are you doing here? Looking for Zhou Ge?"

"That’s right. Don’t get the wrong idea, Yingzi. I’m just asking some questions on behalf of my little brother."

Tian Tian’s younger brother, nicknamed Big Niu, was one of Zhou Zheng’s students, currently attending primary school. Tian Tian herself worked at the school as the accountant.

Without dwelling on it, Chen Ying blushed and ran off, secretly regretting that she’d slapped Zhou Zheng earlier today. In doing so, how was she any different from Tian Sangsang? Would this make Zhou Ge dislike her? Was he angry at her?

After a few steps, Chen Ying hesitated, glanced back, and decisively turned around.

"Did it work?" Tian Tian shut the door and skipped toward Zhou Zheng, who was sitting on the edge of the bed.

"What a damn buzzkill!" Zhou Zheng swore in frustration, tugging at his Zhongshan suit, his typical refined demeanor nowhere to be seen.

"How can you be so useless? It didn’t work again?" Tian Tian’s watery eyes hinted at her annoyance. Judging by the situation, she’d already guessed the outcome.

"Look at my face." Zhou Zheng pointed at his cheek, pulling Tian Tian onto his lap as he spoke. "That stubborn woman is so conservative! She said she likes me, but what about me does she even like? Before anything could happen, she slapped me right across the face!"

"She hits you and you can’t do anything about it?" Tian Tian touched his cheek lightly. "You don’t understand women at all. After she hit you, you should’ve been firm and kept going. Once the rice is cooked, just say a few sweet words to her. She’d be head over heels for you in no time."

Zhou Zheng frowned in irritation. Damn it—he had thought about continuing, but...

"You got stunned after just one slap? Do you have any backbone at all?" Tian Tian gently tapped his forehead. She understood Zhou Zheng for who he really was, better than anyone else. Some people, at a glance, reveal their true selves—just as she and Zhou Zheng had seen through each other back then.

One, not as delicate as they seemed.

One, not as refined as they appeared.

Already riled up from his failed encounter with Chen Ying, Zhou Zheng’s pent-up frustration had nowhere to go. Seeing Tian Tian’s coy expression, his body heated up. Zhou Zheng grabbed the back of Tian Tian’s head and leaned in, kissing her intensely until she was left breathless, overwhelmed by his passion.

"Why should we care about her? If it doesn’t work openly, we’ll handle it in the shadows." Zhou Zheng sneered.

"Someone’s coming," Tian Tian pushed Zhou Zheng away and quickly stood up, both of them fumbling to straighten their clothes.

"So that’s how it is. Big Niu couldn’t solve it, and neither could I. Zhou Zheng, you’re truly brilliant; of course a teacher would solve it at a glance."

Hearing Tian Tian’s voice inside, Chen Ying cautiously pushed the door open.

Zhou Zheng glanced at her briefly, speaking in a somewhat stiff tone. "Yingzi, back again? Is there something you need?"

"Zhou Ge, I really didn’t mean what I did earlier. Are you mad at me?" Chen Ying watched his expression nervously.

"Ah, Zhou Zheng, Yingzi, you two have a nice chat." Tian Tian tactfully retreated toward the door, giving Zhou Zheng a deliberate look as she left.

"Yingzi, I’m not angry. It’s just that your rejection hurt me deeply. It shows that, in the end, you don’t care enough about me."

"Zhou Ge, that’s not true! I do care about you!" Chen Ying exclaimed hurriedly. "I just..."

"Then what about us?" Zhou Zheng’s gaze was piercing as his hand slowly moved to her waist. His eager and flattering tone was difficult to resist.

Yes, Chen Ying, if you care about him, why are you rejecting him? Chen Ying closed her eyes. Zhou Zheng was a scholar, yet here he was throwing caution to the wind. But if he was a scholar, why couldn’t he show some restraint?

Zhou Zheng watched her hesitant face and felt elated.

Chen Ying’s big eyes sparkled. "I’m sorry, Zhou Ge, I can’t!" With that, she ran off, her cheeks flushed red.

A mix of embarrassment, anger, guilt, and frustration churned in Chen Ying’s heart. From the opposite direction, a tall, burly figure approached, and Chen Ying, fueled by her anger, raised her hand to stop her. "Tian Sangsang, I need to ask you something!"

"Oh, it’s you." Tian Sangsang, midway through her run, bent over to catch her breath.

With her hulking frame, dark sweaty face, and imposing presence, Sangsang had once destroyed Ye Jiang’s life. If she hadn’t done what she had, how would Ye Jiang have left so abruptly?

"Every time I see you, I feel enraged! I wish I could tear you apart!" Chen Ying’s furious brows furrowed as anger flared in her gaze. As she stared, her eyes began to redden.

"Oh, don’t cry..." Tian Sangsang scratched her head innocently, clearly puzzled by the situation.

"If you hadn’t humiliated Ye Jiang, he wouldn’t have disappeared without a word. I just need to ask you one thing: What impression did you have of Ye Jiang? Do you even remember what he looked like? Have you ever thought about him? Do you regret having his child? Do you feel like you’ve wronged him? He was an innocent man, forced into—"

"You’re asking a lot more than one thing O.O..."

What could she say? Tian Sangsang was at a loss. Could she admit that her only memory of Ye Jiang was that one night?

"Whatever impression you had, I don’t care. But me—I just remember that morning, when he easily killed a snake. He was my hero. And you—you tainted my hero."

"Killed a snake?" Tian Sangsang asked, her eyes lighting up. "You mean he could kill snakes?" People who could kill snakes were heroes! Even though she’d only seen the villainous male lead—albeit vaguely—in the original owner’s memories, hearing that he could kill snakes made Tian Sangsang feel more sympathy for him. Anyone capable of slaying her enemy couldn’t be ordinary.

Fate was cruel to him, handing him over to a protagonist with golden fingers. Left to bear his fate, he was doomed to be a mere plot device.

Since he was destined to be expendable, he had little worth saving. She didn’t have the time or inclination to rescue him. Her son mattered more. Back then, because her son was in enemy territory, he had been severely restricted. Now, she wouldn’t let Li Yibai snatch her son away, ensuring that Ye Jiang wouldn’t have to endure such bad luck anymore. Best wishes to him...

"Yes, killed a snake," Chen Ying said with a rare, tender smile. "So composed, calm, unfazed—a snake seemed no more threatening than an ant to him, utterly insignificant."

"Wow!" Tian Sangsang suddenly exclaimed as she looked down.

"What did you say?" Chen Ying asked.

"See it? It’s rabbit’s ear grass! I just found another wildflower, haha." Tian Sangsang plucked a stalk of rabbit’s ear grass, planning to plant it in her dimensional space.

"Tian Sangsang!" Chen Ying roared. "What do you take Ye Jiang for?"

At such a critical moment, she still had the nerve to get distracted! Chen Ying was furious—how could Ye Jiang compare to a random wildflower?!
