Chapter 541: Chapter 538: The Exorbitantly Priced Washboard
Uncle Jiang Qi was ruthless. After realizing he had been deceived, he quickly processed all four trailers of rough jadeite without stopping. Had it not been for his son stopping him, he probably would have cut all of the remaining trailer into tofu-sized pieces as well.
His impulsive act not only dragged his entire Jiang Family into bankruptcy, but the enormous shock rendered Uncle Jiang Qi insane overnight. From then on, he would tell anyone he met that his rough jadeite had gone up in value.
"This cellar was built when my grandfather was young; it’s been several decades. These rough stones are the last remaining from that time. My father had these rough stones stored here, and ever since I can remember, they have been sitting here untouched by anyone."
The little girl’s voice grew somber as she recounted those old stories. Although she had not experienced the event herself, she could fully empathize, as her grandfather had been mad all these years.
She hated the person who had harmed her grandfather, but more than that, she hoped to fulfill her grandfather’s dream by finding even a single piece of jadeite in this Mogang Rock that could increase in value, sparing him from regret.
"I know that many of these are not rough jadeite, but I still brought you here. My grandfather used to come to this cellar often. He wouldn’t process the stones; he would just touch them, lost in thought, and would ramble on about how they could increase in value. I think he still harbored hope in his heart."
At this point, the young girl laughed, casting aside her worries.
"If Miss Song wants these rough stones, it’ll be a buy one get one free deal. I only have one condition if you decide to buy: could you process the stones here in front of my grandfather?"
Huo Sining understood what the little girl meant. If they really could find a piece that increased in value, it might shock Old Master Jiang into regaining his senses.
Although the hope was slim, it was still a method, wasn’t it?
Unable to refuse such a request, Huo Sining nodded solemnly.
While inspecting the jadeite, the young girl seemed to excuse herself to avoid any suspicion and left the basement, saying she was going upstairs to bring them tea.
Huo Sining paid no attention to her and instead reached for the stones. She didn’t even need to use her right hand to sense them; a look at the rough stones’ appearance told her that these stones couldn’t possibly contain jadeite—they were all Mogang Rock.
The little girl, hopeful because Huo Sining had previously found an Emerald Heavenly Bead in the Mogang Rock, didn’t realize that even for Mogang Rock to contain jadeite, certain conditions were necessary.
At the very least, the piece from which the Emerald Heavenly Bead had been extracted had been separated from Hei Wusha that was moss-green in color, part of the border area of the Jade Mine Weathering Belt.
But at that moment, touching the Mogang Rock in front of her, Huo Sining couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and pity.
The stones were clearly meant for construction foundations, not for yielding jadeite—not even the trace of Green Mist White Cotton.
Despite this, Huo Sining still carefully examined each stone with her vision, but unfortunately, the end result was disappointing.
After hearing the young girl’s story, the mood of the others watching Huo Sining shake her head became heavy.
"Let’s go," Huo Sining sighed.
"Ningning, is there really none? Not a single piece of rough jadeite?" Su Qingqing, not yet ready to give up, followed Huo Sining and asked.
Huo Sining was at a loss as well. Although she had the Heavenly Eye, she couldn’t just magic jadeite out of the Mogang Rock, nor could she transmute stone into jadeite—such feats were beyond her power.
Shaking her head, Huo Sining said nothing more and walked straight toward the outside.
As they emerged from the underground cellar, they saw the little girl sitting on a stone platform not far away, lost in thought.
Seeing Huo Sining and the others walk out empty-handed, the last glimmer of spirit in the girl’s eyes dimmed, and she bit her lip, holding back the tears that threatened to fall. She gave them a smile that was uglier than crying.
"Have some tea before you go. This is some Pu’er tea my grandma kept for many years; we rarely serve it even when relatives come over," she said.
Despite her disappointment, the young girl was still enthusiastic and hospitable, pointing to the steaming cups of tea on the tray on the stone platform and forcing a smile.
Huo Sining and the others didn’t know what to say and silently picked up their cups for a few sips before looking to set them down and leave.
Just then, Huo Sining suddenly noticed the Mogang Rock platform in front of her, remembering the Chessboard Stone she had purchased earlier, and felt an urge. She instinctively reached out her right hand and gently pressed it on the surface of the stone platform.
To her surprise, as soon as she pressed down, she was stunned.
The stone platform in front of her was as huge as the Chessboard Stone she had bought from Hetian, weighing half a ton, with a very smooth polished surface.
Especially noticeable were the clear watermarks on the stone, indicating that it was often used as a washboard.
The lower half of the platform was covered in green moss and black algae; it seemed to have been in this courtyard for many years.
However, when Huo Sining’s right hand touched this stone, she couldn’t help but gasp.
This green!!
Huo Sining thought she had seen wrong and touched it carefully again, the sight under her "Heavenly Eye" leaving her completely dumbfounded.
Although she hadn’t been in the Jadeite gambling circle for long, in less than a year, she had handled countless raw stones and gambled on hundreds. She had cut Jadeite of various colors and qualities.
But none of the greens of all the Jadeite she had revealed could compare to the beauty of the one in front of her!
Green Jadeite is quite common, with at least seventy percent of the Jadeite products on the market being green.
Even with green though, there is a wide range of distinctions, like Yang Green, spinach green, apple green, emerald, and so on; differently colored Jadeite can greatly vary in value.
Just as Blue Elf, Purple Eyes, and Blood Beauty are the top of the line in other colored Jadeite, amongst green stones, there is also a peak of excellence—of course, none other than the legendary imperial green.
Huo Sining had never seen imperial green; she’d only learned the name while browsing Jadeite forums.
She had cut glass-type green Jadeite, but even though those stones had a good texture, abundant water, and bright color, they could only be called glass-type and did not meet the standards of imperial green.
So Huo Sining always wondered, just what does imperial green look like? Is it more dazzling than vibrant green? More dense? More translucent, cold to the eye, and imposing?
Any imagination paled in comparison to the shock of seeing actual imperial green. Upon glimpsing this piece of Jadeite, Huo Sining’s first reaction was that it had to be imperial green!
