Chapter 436: Chapter 432: Three Maps
"What?!" Huang Hanyun was shocked upon hearing this, "A burglar got into the house?!"
Huo Sining shook her head, "The person’s movements were very adept, they were probably not a burglar."
Huo Sining had something she didn’t say; she felt she should recognize that person, but since she hadn’t seen their face, she couldn’t be certain.
After coaxing Su Qingqing and Huang Hanyun back to bed, Huo Sining turned around intending to wash her face in the restroom, but as she turned, she saw a black wooden box on the bedside table.
Seeing the black wooden box, Huo Sining’s expression instantly froze.
The box was exquisitely made, no larger than half a foot in size. The entire surface was smoothly polished, with distinctive floral engravings, made from the extremely rare Nanmu Ebony wood.
Upon seeing the box, Huo Sining’s mouth dropped open in surprise.
Huo Sining was certain that before she went to sleep, this bedside table definitely did not have the box on it, otherwise she would have noticed it earlier.
Could it have been delivered by that shadowy figure?
The familiar decorations on this box immediately reminded her of the one she had picked up in the deep mountain pool during her military training in S City, as well as the dressing box she had found not long ago in her grandmother’s boudoir at the old house.
Those two boxes were also made from Nanmu Ebony wood, and the floral engravings on their surfaces were exactly the same as this one.
To confirm they were indeed identical, Huo Sining couldn’t wait to take the other two boxes out of her storage ring.
Upon comparison, indeed, although the three boxes were of different sizes, both their craftsmanship and the carvings were exactly alike, likely crafted by the same hand.
Who was that shadowy figure, and why did they bring this box to her? Huo Sining’s mind was in turmoil, and she couldn’t make sense of it.
Startled by that person, Huo Sining lost the desire to sleep. She decided not to sleep and instead worked on figuring out these boxes.
The three boxes shone with a metallic luster under the light, and the faint fragrance of Nanmu wood drifted through the air.
Following the mechanism she had found on the box retrieved from the deep pool, Huo Sining also discovered similar hidden compartments at the bottom of the other two boxes.
Eagerly opening them, she found that just like the first box, each hidden compartment contained a piece of foldable parchment paper.
Huo Sining carefully extracted the two pieces of parchment and unfolded them.
Like the first piece of parchment, each of these also had a Bagua Chart drawn on them.
Each Bagua Chart was different, and the texts varied significantly.
Huo Sining had initially thought these pieces of parchment were independent but after scrutinizing them for several minutes, she noticed something off about the ancient characters at the edges of the charts.
With these two pieces, and the one she had before, she now had three pieces of parchment, all featuring Bagua Charts.
However, when she aligned the Tai Chi symbols on the three parchments in the same direction, she realized the ancient characters at the edges appeared in different corners—some at the lower left, others at the lower right, and some at the upper right.
A sudden insight struck Huo Sining, and she arranged the three pieces of parchment together. Once she did this, she noticed the issue; certain parts of the edges of the three pieces of parchment overlapped perfectly.
Huo Sining’s heart skipped a beat as she identified the problem.
The three pieces of parchment were clearly cut from a single larger piece.
Once the pieces were put together, the scattered text along the edges of the parchment at the center was finally pieced together.
However, there was a corner missing from the bottom of the complete piece, and consequently, the last part of the text was also missing, making it impossible to read coherently.
This was not the complete map; there had to be a fourth piece!
Upon seeing that text, Huo Sining realized there must be a fourth wooden box, and inside, it must contain the last piece of parchment.
The four pieces of parchment were made so complex and secretive, with Bagua Charts and ancient characters, what mysterious thing could they be hiding? Huo Sining was utterly perplexed.
What made it even more troublesome for her was that even having the three pieces of parchment from the boxes was of no use.
The segment of ancient text in the middle was very complex, and she could hardly understand it in the first place, let alone now that a portion was missing, leaving her even more clueless about its content.
If she could find the fourth piece of parchment, the secret would naturally be unraveled. But as for the remaining fourth box, Huo Sining had no idea where to start looking.
Huo Sining was curious, but she was not one to trouble herself unnecessarily. Since she couldn’t figure it out, she decided to let it go and not dwell on it any longer, letting things take their natural course.
Huo Sining shook her head and placed the pieces of parchment into her grandmother’s vanity box, then stored it away in her storage ring.
Back in bed, Huo Sining went over the events of the day, unable to sleep. A throbbing pain from the injury on her forehead reminded her that she had forgotten to treat her wound. She hurriedly brushed aside the hair on her forehead and tore off the bandage.
An inch-long gash right above her eyebrow became visible. Huo Sining frowned and quickly chanted an incantation, directing the Spiritual Energy of the Azure Pearl to envelop and heal the wound on her forehead.
However, to Huo Sining’s surprise, the normally easily healed bruises, which would close quickly after being tended with Spiritual Energy, showed no sign of healing this time.
The Spiritual Energy of the Azure Pearl was entering the wound in streams, and soon, Huo Sining realized something was amiss.
The Spiritual Energy didn’t reach the wound but mysteriously disappeared as it approached her forehead.
Finding it odd, Huo Sining tried redirecting the Spiritual Energy from a different angle, but to no avail; it was absorbed by an inexplicable force upon reaching the wound on her forehead.
Startled, Huo Sining hastily made a call to Yan Feng, who was far away in S City.
After listening to Huo Sining’s description, Yan Feng paused before uttering two words, "Continue!"
Confused but feeling that Yan Feng wouldn’t deceive her, Huo Sining had no choice but to keep channeling Spiritual Energy towards the center of her forehead.
The Spiritual Energy was sucked away by a strange vortex as soon as it reached the center of her brow until the last bit of energy from the Azure Pearl was exhausted, leaving Huo Sining pale and slumped on the bed.
With an accelerated heartbeat and her breaths turning ragged, Huo Sining felt utterly drained.
At that moment, whether it was her imagination or not, as she lay in bed, Huo Sining faintly felt a warm energy emerging from the center of her forehead.
She felt as if she were enveloped in a hot spring, completely relaxed and comfortable, and before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.
