Chapter 391: Chapter 387 Your Dog Caught My Eye!
Despite the shop owner’s reluctance, he could do nothing about Huo Sining’s decision not to renew the lease. The shop belonged to Huo Sining, and the contract was about to expire, giving her the right to take back the shop after its termination.
Having handed over the shop documents to the lawyer, Huo Sining and her group left the store.
Su Qingqing, who seldom had the chance to visit Beijing, was visiting Liulichang for the first time. Seeing the dazzling array of antique stalls on the street, she instantly became interested and wanted to rummage for antiques on Antique Street.
Huo Sining wasn’t particularly interested, but Huang Ranping and Li Quan both agreed, so the group began strolling down the street.
Similar to the Antique Street near Chenghuang Temple in S City, the one at the Imperial Capital Glazed Tile Factory also had many mobile vendors.
Li Quan and Su Qingqing, both well-versed in the trade, started rummaging through a stall.
Huang Ranping and Huang Hanyun were novices, but their lack of expertise didn’t dampen their enthusiasm for treasure hunting.
Huo Sining and Gu Xu, on the other hand, waited by the roadside with Heitan, not particularly keen on scavenging for bargains.
Seeing a chance for some alone time with Huo Sining, Gu Xu prepared to bring up the matter of visiting his family’s elders at the Gu Family’s old mansion.
After several minutes of mental preparation, just as Gu Xu was about to speak, three women, one of them holding a German Shepherd, approached from the side.
As these women passed by, to everyone’s surprise, the German Shepherd stopped abruptly a yard away from Huo Sining and refused to move any further.
"Beauty, let’s go, what’s the matter?"
Noticing her German Shepherd’s unusual behavior, the owner was baffled and kept pulling on the leash to move forward, but the dog was strong and stubbornly remained stationary on the street, refusing to budge an inch despite the woman’s slender arms and legs.
Not only that, but the German Shepherd bared its teeth, bristled its fur, and took an aggressive stance as if confronted by a formidable adversary.
The owner finally realized something was wrong and turned around to see Huo Sining standing a yard away with Heitan.
The Tibetan Mastiff looked smaller than her German Shepherd and had an unremarkable black fur that hardly stood out, which the woman deemed inconsequential. She insisted on pulling the German Shepherd away, but the dog whined, looking very frightened and pitiful.
The other two women immediately understood the situation: "Jun Qi, your Beauty is definitely afraid of that black dog. Just carry it past."
The two women were simply stating the facts, but upon hearing this, the owner of the German Shepherd felt their words were laced with mockery, as if they were laughing at her dog for being cowardly.
Angered and embarrassed, the woman turned back and scolded the German Shepherd:
"You’re scared to such an extent by just a mutt? Have you no dignity? Will you walk or not? If you don’t, I’ll have the maid stew you up when we get back!"
With that, the woman turned her head and glared at Heitan, a sinister look flashing in her eyes.
Heitan was intelligent and had extremely sharp instincts. He originally hadn’t paid any attention to the commotion until he heard the woman curse at him. Turning his head, he saw a strange woman glaring at him with ill intent, which immediately irked him.
Heitan was displeased, yet he wouldn’t recklessly charge in to fight; he seemed to be very aware of his own advantage. With a slight twitch of his mouth corner, he suddenly growled low towards the black back at that woman’s side.
Proud, dignified, and fierce, as if a sovereign was disdainfully scrutinizing a challenger to its authority.
It was merely a low growl, but the black back’s entire body started bristling, almost instantaneously trembling in its legs, and without its control, it prostrated itself on the ground, as if kneeling in submission to the Mastiff King, its eyes still fixed tightly on Heitan, seeming to be extremely wary.
Seeing such an opponent crumble so easily, Heitan’s eyes flashed with contempt. After emitting a threatening low bark, he haughtily withdrew his imposing gaze and walked over to lie quietly by Huo Sining’s feet.
Huo Sining also witnessed this scene, but she didn’t intervene. Instead, she quietly watched Heitan assert himself, and when he lay prostrate at her feet, she smiled faintly and patted the guy on the head.
Heitan revelled in this, feeling the scent of Huo Sining, he closed his eyes in comfort.
Liang Junqi’s gaze fell on Heitan by Huo Sining’s feet, her eyes narrowing slightly.
This dog of hers was a fine specimen among German black backs, and with careful training, he demonstrated absolute ferocity and obedience. He would even dare to fight against an adult Tibetan Mastiff, but he had never been this cowardly before.
Liang Junqi wasn’t foolish; Heitan’s single bark had made her black back kneel on the ground, unable to move a muscle. That definitely wasn’t something a normal dog could accomplish.
Liang Junqi originally planned to take this black back to a dog fighting championship. She had selected him specifically and spent a long time raising him, and she had not expected that after half a year’s effort, he would be terrified out of his wits by a Tibetan Mastiff that wasn’t even that impressive to look at.
In contrast, that Tibetan Mastiff was petite and obviously not yet fully grown, probably only about seven or eight months old at most. Such a young pup being so fierce implied that it would be even more formidable when grown.
Without comparison, Liang Junqi thought her beauty was quite commendable, but as soon as there was a comparison, she felt that the black back she held was not presentable.
Glancing disdainfully at the black back behind her, Liang Junqi’s interest instantly shifted to Heitan. Gazing at the Tibetan Mastiff at Huo Sining’s feet, her eyes lit up with greed filling her entire vision.
"Hey, over there, I’ve taken a liking to your dog. Name your price!"
Liang Junqi shouted towards Huo Sining.
Huo Sining turned her head to glance at Liang Junqi and shook her head nonchalantly, "My dog is not for sale."
Upon hearing this, Liang Junqi’s eyes flashed with an unwavering light, "It’s just a dog. Name any price; I won’t short-change you!"
Despite Heitan’s dark and unimpressive look, after being nurtured by Huo Sining’s Spiritual Energy, his coat had become soft and lustrous. Anyone with even a slight knowledge of dogs could tell that this guy was good-looking and was definitely a rare handsome Tibetan Mastiff.
However, Huo Sining never thought of selling Heitan.
She had spent so much Spiritual Energy and nearly lost her life to bring this guy back from Yama’s Palace. The amount she had invested couldn’t be calculated in terms of money.
Moreover, now that she was alone, Heitan was like family to her, the two of them relying on each other for survival. Such a bond couldn’t be measured in monetary terms.
