Chapter 304: Chapter 301 Not So Aloof
As the first and most direct observer on the scene, Xu Yating didn’t even blink from such a close distance, yet she was utterly confounded as to how Huo Sining had done it.
Wang Qin, who had originally been waiting to watch a drama unfold, jerked her head up in shock at the very moment Huo Sining slapped her hand down, staring in astonishment at the glass on Huo Sining’s table.
After the performance had concluded, Huo Sining, holding Xu Yating’s hand, took a bow. Only then did the audience snap back to reality and began to applaud vehemently—some boys even started whistling. Clearly, Huo Sining’s act took everyone by surprise and was very well-received.
When Huo Sining saw Gan Lijun giving her a thumbs up, she walked off the stage with an indifferent expression, only to see Wang Qin looking at her with a face filled with ire and envy.
Huo Sining didn’t understand why. She didn’t recall offending this girl in any way. Why was Wang Qin looking at her with such eyes?
How could she not hate? Wang Qin believed her dancing skills were superior, so when they were signing up for the talent show, she intentionally chose a solo dance for Huo Sining as well, with the purpose of outperforming her.
In order to be chosen by the department, she even pretended to go to the bathroom to let Huo Sining perform first, thinking to highlight her own excellence in contrast to Huo Sining. But what she did not realize was that all her deliberate plotting wasn’t bringing her any fortune; instead, she was shooting herself in the foot.
Wang Qin had never imagined that in just one day, Huo Sining could come up with a magic trick; with just a few shabby props, she pulled off the entire performance, dazzling and unexpected without revealing any flaws.
All the spotlight had been stolen by Huo Sining. Long after she had stepped off the stage, the audience was still abuzz, each spectating discussing Huo Sining’s recent magic act, curious about how she had achieved it, leaving no one with the mind to watch a solo dance.
Honestly, Wang Qin’s solo was rather good and definitely stood out in the entire college, but unfortunately, she was scheduled to perform right after Huo Sining, which was her misfortune.
By the time she finished her dance and struck the final pose, there were only a few claps from the audience, and even the judges showed little interest.
Wang Qin’s face was a mix of discomfiture and embarrassment; her eyes reddened but she barely managed to contain the fury and humiliation churned up inside her.
Who would’ve known that once she stepped off the stage she would see quite a few classmates eagerly surrounding Huo Sining, bombarding her with questions? Even the girls from the dormitory who had thought of Huo Sining as arrogant and hard to approach were there.
At that moment, Wang Qin’s feelings could be described as being completely frustrated and infuriated; she was so angry that she wished she could charge forward and tear Huo Sining’s face to shreds.
Xu Yating saw Wang Qin’s unhappy expression as she came down and couldn’t help but comfort her:
"Wang Qin, are you alright? Your dance just now was really good. Even if the department doesn’t pick it, if there are any cultural events in our college in the future, they will definitely ask you to perform."
"Would the department really prefer a rough program that was put together in one day over my dance? I’ve been practicing that dance for more than half a month!"
Wang Qin said this, but she understood all too well that Huo Sining’s magic show was far more exquisite than her own performance. However, she couldn’t accept it. She wouldn’t stand to be stepped on by Huo Sining, who had so easily taken the spot that she couldn’t achieve despite all her efforts.
Wang Qin glared at Huo Sining bitterly. Party membership application, the freshman welcome party—every opportunity she had was snatched away by that woman, Huo Sining.
Seeing Wang Qin’s expression, Xu Yating knew exactly what she was thinking. As the class president, of course, she wanted harmony in the class and didn’t wish for conflict between the two girls, so she hurriedly spoke up to mediate:
"That’s not a fair way to put it. You only saw that Huo Sining rushed to change her act type yesterday, but her magic is not something that ordinary people can learn. Forget about one day, even learning for half a year might not achieve such perfection. I bet she must love magic and practices on her own regularly, so she was able to perform so excellently at the crucial moment. Both of you have worked hard, but opportunities always come to those who are well-prepared,"
Even though Xu Yating didn’t know the final result of this audition, she was certain that, in a four-way decision within the department, they would definitely choose Huo Sining’s magic act. Sining’s performance was both novel and impressive, and she could definitely hold her ground even if it were to be broadcasted on television.
As for Wang Qin’s dance, it was only good enough to fool the layman—anyone with expertise could tell that her dance was somewhat stiff and certainly wouldn’t be selected.
However, Xu Yating dared not say this openly, fearing it would further damage Wang Qin’s self-confidence.
But her words were far from comforting to Wang Qin, they were essentially rubbing salt into her wounds.
When Wang Qin had submitted Si Ning’s registration form, she was expecting to see Si Ning make a fool of herself, not to let Si Ning steal the spotlight. Now hearing Xu Yating’s words, she was filled with regret, wishing she could slap herself.
Seeing Si Ning being widely praised over there, and comparing it to the lonely, desolate sight of her own situation, Wang Qin’s face turned from green to white. The emotions she barely managed to control finally broke through like a floodgate, and she burst into tears with a loud wail.
Uh...
Sining was dealing with her enthusiastic fans with a bitter smile when she turned her head and saw Wang Qin, unbelievably, crying with her face buried in her hands. She was at a loss for words.
"Are you alright?"
Sining walked over and patted Wang Qin’s shoulder. Wang Qin lifted her tear-blurred face, and upon seeing Si Ning, she felt even more humiliated and angered.
Sining, however, smiled. She extended her hand, gave a slight wave, and astonishingly, a clean white handkerchief appeared out of nowhere in her empty hand.
The girl who saw this screamed in excitement, "She did it again, she did it again, amazing!"
"Don’t cry. Wipe away your tears," Sining handed the handkerchief to Wang Qin.
Wang Qin took the white handkerchief from Sining’s hands in a daze. Sining then patted her on the shoulder again and smiled, saying,
"Your dance was really good just now. You must have developed your figure through dancing, right? No wonder you’re so lean and slim. I can’t do it, with my broad and clumsy limbs. No matter what, I’ll never learn an art like dancing."
Sining smiled at Wang Qin and said, "So, don’t cry. What you can do, I cannot. I even envy you for that, and it’s something I cannot emulate."
"Look, I told you Huo Sining isn’t as hard to get along with as you guys said. I think she’s quite nice. We just haven’t had the chance to interact with her. She’s not prideful or cold at all, a very amiable person," Xu Yating said with a smile toward Wang Qin. Coming back to her senses, Wang Qin watched Sining’s retreating figure with a complex look in her eyes; she couldn’t quite pinpoint the feeling inside her.
