Huo Sining did not know that because of a spot for Party membership, she inadvertently provoked another enemy.

Even if she had known, she wouldn’t have cared; having lived two lifetimes, she naturally wouldn’t have been flustered by such a trifle.

Although she did not like the feeling of standing onstage under the scrutiny of the audience, she had seen her fair share of grand occasions and was not someone who could not handle the spotlight or suffer from stage fright easily.

Because it was the preliminary round, the act Huo Sining prepared was quite simple: a glass cup, a deck of playing cards, coins, and an egg.

Of course, having these items was not enough; she also needed someone to assist her.

So, early on the day of the preliminaries, Huo Sining went to the school and sought out Xu Yating, hoping she would cooperate with her performance.

"You want my cooperation? But I don’t know anything, and I don’t even know what act you’re going to perform, so how can I assist?"

Xu Yating was bewildered hearing Huo Sining’s request and waved her hands repeatedly, indicating she couldn’t do it.

Huo Sining smiled and said, "It’s exactly because you don’t know anything that it will seem more realistic. Otherwise, people might think I’ve found a stooge."

Hearing this, Xu Yating became even more confused and looked at Huo Sining with a mix of curiosity and bewilderment, "What on earth are you going to perform? Can’t even I know ahead of time?"

Huo Sining shook her head, "Let’s keep it a secret for now; you’ll find out when I get on stage in the afternoon."

Feeling helpless, Xu Yating nodded in agreement but held no hopes for Huo Sining’s act, thinking that it was impossible to come up with a good performance in just one day, let alone Huo Sining suddenly needing her to assist on such short notice. Was this not a joke?

The time for the preliminary round came in the afternoon, and the department notified the students who had signed up to prepare. Huo Sining took out the things she had prepared in advance.

Since the preliminaries were held in a small auditorium and the stage was only a few meters away from the judges’ seats, Huo Sining chose items that were commonly seen and could easily be used as small props.

Xu Yating was stunned when she saw the contents of Huo Sining’s basket, clueless about what Huo Sining intended to do with those things.

She wanted to ask, but Huo Sining kept her lips sealed, maintaining strict confidentiality about her act and refusing to divulge a word.

Qin Shaoyou sat in the small auditorium. Seeing Huo Sining coming in, he raised his eyebrows in surprise and quickly lowered his head to check the program registration form.

Upon seeing that in Huo Sining’s column was written "Solo Performance: Thousand and One Changes, Witness the Moment of Miracle," the corner of Qin Shaoyou’s mouth twitched slightly. What in the world was this?

Not only Qin Shaoyou was puzzled. The announcer of the program was also at a loss; the description of Huo Sining’s act was cryptic.

Wang Qin, however, remained calm, but there was a flicker in her eyes when she saw Huo Sining holding a curious basket.

Performing with this rubbish? Was this meant to be a joke?

Wang Qin cast a sidelong glance at Huo Sining, her mouth curving up almost imperceptibly, with a flash of schadenfreude and disdain in her eyes that disappeared so quickly it was hard to catch.

Huo Sining noticed Wang Qin looking her way and smiled at her amiably. Although her preparations were somewhat haphazard, she was confident that her act would shock everyone soon.

The College of Biology had three majors, including engineering, technology, and science categories. Huo Sining’s engineering department had two acts lined up, assigned the fifth and sixth performance slots.

Huo Sining was originally scheduled to perform after Wang Qin, but during the fourth act, Wang Qin suddenly complained of a stomachache and said she needed to use the bathroom, asking Huo Sining to fill in for her first.

Seeing this, Xu Yating could only discuss the matter with Huo Sining. Huo Sining didn’t mind, and with a nod, she agreed. Wang Qin then covered her belly and ran towards the bathroom. However, after rounding a corner, she halted, straightened up, and a cold smirk appeared on her face.

She had seen the basket of items that Huo Sining had prepared and was convinced that Huo Sining’s intent to go on stage was to cause trouble. This suited her just fine; her performance was a solo dance, but it was somewhat monotonous, and she wasn’t certain it would be chosen.

But if Huo Sining’s act served as a backdrop before hers, it would be different. If Huo Sining’s act was poor, once she went on stage, the judges would surely be impressed by the contrast, and the disparity between the two acts would definitely earn her additional points for making a lasting impression.

Holding onto this idea, Wang Qin pretended to want to go to the bathroom. Watching Huo Sining take the stage, she then sneaked back quietly, crossing her arms in front of her chest, assuming the posture of a spectator waiting to watch Huo Sining make a fool of herself.

Huo Sining slowly walked onto the stage. She had already arranged with the prop team, and a table with two chairs was set up on the stage.

Seeing that both Qin Shaoyou and Gan Lijun were there in the audience, and Gan Lijun even gave her an encouraging smile, Huo Sining smiled back and bowed to the audience. She settled her nerves and cleared her throat.

"You must be wondering what ’a myriad of changes, witnessing the moment of miracle’ means?"

"When I submitted this to our class president, that’s what she asked me. ’Don’t tell me you’re planning to go on stage and mess around?’"

Laughter came from the audience, and Huo Sining shouted toward Xu Yating, who was hiding behind the curtain, "President, I’m not messing around, I’m actually here to perform. Why don’t you come up and have a closer look?"

The audience was puzzled, and Xu Yating joined her on stage. Huo Sining gestured for Xu Yating to sit in the chair opposite her.

"Sit."

Huo Sining was as natural as if she were not on stage but in her own home.

Xu Yating sat down, feeling a mix of nervousness and bewilderment, completely unsure what Huo Sining was up to, but complied nonetheless.

"President, have you had lunch?"

Xu Yating nodded and replied, "Yes."

Huo Sining smiled, bent down, and took an egg from the basket at her feet. She held the egg between her left thumb and index finger, purposely pausing in the air for a few seconds to show it off.

"A boiled egg, would you like to eat it?"

Xu Yating was stunned, while Huo Sining had already extended the egg toward her.

Xu Yating had no choice but to reach out to take it. However, to her surprise, just as she reached out to take the egg, Huo Sining released her hand.

Then, to the astonishment of both Xu Yating and the audience, something unexpected happened.

The egg that had been in the clenched fist of Huo Sining—vanished!

Xu Yating was certain she hadn’t blinked, and had watched Huo Sining take the egg from the basket and hold it in her palm. It had been less than three seconds; how could it have disappeared?

The audience was also stunned but quickly regained their composure.

Everyone thought it strange when Huo Sining had brought Xu Yating up on stage earlier, completely unaware of what Huo Sining was going to perform. Yet now, it became clear. Huo Sining’s performance was a magic trick!
