Chapter 325: Chapter 317: One More Update
Zong Yunqian immediately headed straight for Zheng Haoyuan, coming to a stop in front of him.
"Fourth Prince, among the prisoners is a lady, and according to the laws of Nanzheng State, women are exempt from being fed to beasts. I ask that your men stand down..."
Zheng Haoyuan waved his hand dismissively.
"The show’s just getting good, why stop!" Zheng Haoyuan, finding Zong Yunqian to be blocking his view, craned his neck to see the situation at the wooden enclosure, his head nearly brushing against Zheng Nianru’s shoulder.
Zong Yunqian watched with icy detachment, feeling that it was impossible to reason with these two, for they were completely irrational.
As Zong Yunqian turned around, he suddenly spotted a copper gong suspended in the viewing stand, which gave him an inkling of its purpose. It seemed he had no choice but to take matters into his own hands. He pivoted towards the gong, grabbed a mallet resting nearby, and with a swing, a resonant noise rang out immediately.
Zheng Haoyuan sprang to his feet at once.
"Zong Yunqian, what are you doing!"
Eunuch Cang Er and Lu Hu were beside themselves with rage as they charged forward, intent on seizing the mallet and copper gong from Zong Yunqian’s hands.
Gu Dao and Xi Feng immediately joined the fray.
"Treason, it’s treason! Won’t someone come and toss Zong Yunqian out for me." Zheng Haoyuan stood atop his chair, fuming, pointing at the people embroiled in the melee.
"Throw him down, where are my men, where are they? Have they all died?"
The guards in the outer field, upon hearing the copper gong, were puzzled. Was the event ending already? But it was obvious that it hadn’t finished yet.
Just at that moment, Zong Yunqian took the initiative and struck the gong once more with force. This time, the guards stationed in the outer field listened more attentively and became certain that it was indeed the signal to conclude the event.
The wooden enclosures began to open slowly, and the iron chains started to tighten gradually.
"Madness, utter madness, absolutely insane! Zong Yunqian, I will make you pay—" Zheng Haoyuan saw that his own forces were showing weakness. Eunuch Cang Er was even pushed up against the viewing stand’s railing, unable to move, and Lu Hu was being besieged by three individuals. Fortunately, guards from both sides, noticing this scene, quickly rushed over and plunged into the chaotic fight.
Fu Dong pulled Zheng Nianru behind him, taking care not to harm the Commandery Princess.
Watching with pouted lips, Xing Yu saw five or six guards approaching. She wasn’t about to aid Heir Zong. It was clearly a good show, and now she couldn’t watch.
"Throw him down for me, throw him down quickly—" Seeing his own men arrive, Zheng Haoyuan was even more emboldened.
The guards immediately looked to Lu Hu, to throw or not to throw?
Lu Hu quickly signaled with his eyes. Could the Princely Heir be carelessly tossed aside? Better to throw those two audacious servants first.
Gu Dao clung tenaciously to the viewing stand’s railing, thinking they wanted to push him down to the tigers, no chance.
The struggle began with visible fighting techniques, but soon turned into a crush of bodies, with the Loyal Warriors of the Wen Family leveraging their numerical advantage, preventing Zong Yunqian and his two companions from even unfurling a fist or foot.
Several guards, focused on dealing with Gu Dao, were intent on pushing one down to relieve the Fourth Prince’s frustration, unaware that the railings of the viewing stand had begun to wobble perilously.
Nian Xia had just noticed and was about to shout out when they heard a crash and a series of thuds, as a group of people tumbled down, taking the railings with them, along with cries of alarm and screams of terror.
Zheng Haoyuan suddenly froze, and Zheng Nianru too was petrified in place, both oblivious to the danger that was about to descend.
Zheng Nianru looked over at Fu Dong and Nian Xia, "What’s happening down there?" Only to see Nian Xia at the front, pointing shaking fingers at the area below the stand in terror, where the railing, though only half the height of a man, had fallen, revealing the tender green grass below as if they were already in the midst of the entire Hunting Ground.
Nian Xia seemed to realize something, and the interconnected railings that collapsed got caught on a cage. The tiger had been scheduled to enter the cage later than the other wild animals, and at that very moment, it jammed the large gate of the cage. The guards, taken aback, watched as the tiger leapt out of the cage, heading straight for the already chaotic viewing stand.
Gu Dao was the first to be attacked by the tiger, and in his panic, he instinctively grabbed a broken piece of railing to fend off the tiger, which got stuck in the animal’s mouth. Gu Dao was startled, quickly stepping back to find his Princely Heir.
The tiger immediately turned and pounced at another guard, but the guards, experienced as they were, even without weapons, managed to drive the tiger back in an instant.
"Gu Dao, Xi Feng, get up there—" Zong Yunqian had by this time risen to his feet, but just then, the tiger pounced toward him from behind.
"Princely Heir, be careful—"
"Princely Heir—" Zong Yunqian felt a surge of pressure from behind, but he wasn’t prepared to face the tiger head-on, he leapt, aiming for the stand above.
Gu Dao and Xi Feng immediately followed Zong Yunqian’s lead and jumped up as well.
Upon landing, Zong Yunqian saw Zheng Haoyuan with a look of panic, hiding behind Eunuch Cang Er, his expression revealing a trace of scorn. He was about to speak when a roar sounded behind him, and the huge adult male tiger had followed Zong Yunqian onto the stand.
The tiger, eyeing the people before him, clearly found them to be much easier prey than those down below, and without a word, it lunged at the now seemingly more vulnerable group, including Zheng Nianru and others.
"Ahh—"
"Ahh—" Zheng Nianru was the first to let out a scream, with Xing Yu stepping in front of her, afraid yet still managing to keep her composure.
"Commandery Princess, don’t be afraid, stay behind me and don’t move—" Xing Yu had barely finished speaking when the tiger pounced towards her, and Zheng Nianru, far from daring to stand behind Xing Yu, scampered around frenetically like a headless fly.
"Quick, go and save my cousin." Zheng Haoyuan pushed Eunuch Cang Er ahead of him, his hand weak but his intent to aid indisputable, as Eunuch Cang Er crawled towards Zheng Nianru’s direction.
Seeing this, Zong Yunqian immediately went to intercept the tiger. Zheng Nianru, along with Fu Dong and Nian Xia, screamed and ran in the opposite direction of the stand.
Struck by Zong Yunqian, the tiger in pain leapt onto the chairs of the stand, shaking its body, and swept everything off the low table.
"Ahh—" Zheng Nianru and the others kept retreating, all forgetting that behind them was a steep cliff, beneath which was a raging river. Zheng Nianru had no more room to retreat, and driven by the push from Nian Xia and Fu Dong, she uncontrollably leaned backwards.
Zheng Nianru wanted to scream but found that her downward-plunging posture made it impossible to do
